The last wedding I went to was in a public park (which had really nice scenery for wedding photos). The bride and groom wore nice clothes that they already owned and had spent a couple hundred dollars on wedding rings. Instead of bringing gifts, the guests brought food for a pitch-in lunch. After the ceremony and lunch, we all played games. It was the only wedding I really enjoyed attending and the only one where children had something fun to do.

My friend got married in the back yard of his parents house. His mom and grandma cooked the food for everyone and made the cake, our buddy was the DJ, and they were married by our physics teacher from highschool. It was probably the cheapest wedding I’d ever been too, but it was by far the best Edit: If you think this sounds awful, please, spend as much money as you possibly can on your wedding. By all means let’s pay $25K for a wedding that has a 50/50 chance of ending in divorce, and makes everyone anxious, and miserable. Go to the courthouse, get married, and go on a nice honeymoon. Then come home and put that money towards a down payment on a house.

Nope. Don't get married at all. Marriage doesn't offer a man anything he can't get for free by staying unmarried. I live by these 3 pillars. 1. No marriage. 2. No living together. 3. No kids. These 3 have served me very well, and it keeps the women from getting that lazy attitude that they think they can just chunk-up and butch-up. And today, women have no dowery anyway, not even their virginity.

It makes sense. The more money you spend on a wedding , the more you care about the event itself rather than the person you're marrying. If you have a cheap and simpler wedding, it shows that you don't care as much about the ceremony and just want to spend time with your SO. Obviously, there are exceptions. Some people just want a nice, fancy wedding. But you don't need to go overboard and spend like 30k just for a party.

My wife and I had a big wedding planned (her idea). But then the pandemic hit. We had to scramble to change our plans, and ended up getting married in our backyard and saving around $13,000. The weather was good and everybody enjoyed it. Instead of spending $900 on a DJ like we had originally planned, for instance, my nephew played DJ for 20 bucks, using my phone and an $8 Bluetooth speaker. We bought some flowers, but they were all live ones in pots. We danced, ate pizza, and drank cheap champagne in our own backyard while listening to old love songs. It was glorious. With the money we saved, we instead bought 10 acres of recreational land that we'll have for the rest of our lives. (My idea).

This is a statement that I have seen more times than I can count and many studies have shown as well. It has a lot less to do with the man who has everything to lose mistreating the woman, and more about the woman who has everything to gain, taking away the man's resources.

That's exactly what my husband and I did. I got married in a leather mini dress (it was the 90's), something I already owned, ditched the rings, and my hubby wore a leather jacket and jeans. We got married at the court house and had a party at home with our closest friends and family. I think the booze costs more then getting married at the court house. We went to a local hot springs for our honeymoon (super cheap) and it all costs less than a eight hundred dollars. We've been married for 24 years. We put our saving towards our 3-bedroom condo not a one day event, and it's almost paid off. Sorry big wedding are over rated.

My BFF got married, it was beautiful, and they spent $4K for the whole thing. Two other friends got married this year; one spent $60K, the other $11K. The $60K wedding was extravagant, too long and kind of impersonal, BUT it was absolutely beautiful!! The one that spent $11K had THE BEST WEDDING I've ever seen. It was intimate, elegant and beautiful, and the only reason it was so expense was because of the open bar. If they hadn't done that, it would have been around $5K. It's a fact. The institution of marriage has nothing to do with love, sure there are symbolic meanings/gestures but it is more for legal and financial benefits. If there is more focus, time spent and planning on the wedding then the relationship preceding it, there's a good chance the marriage will dissolve shortly after.

Long ago, wedding was a means to solidify the marriage. Villagers gathered and all were witnesses. Yes, the marriage took place, we all saw it. Getting married is about confirming the love that you have for each other. She wanted to invite so so many people. She wanted to have so many parties, plans and get together as ‘it was expected’. We set up the wedding, we planned it all, then just before the wedding, we realised that things were not right and we pulled the plug on everything. In a way, it’s just as well we didn’t go through with it. She married another guy within 6 months. I think she loves to be in the spotlight and to have this feeling of self importance.

My husband & i got married in court, with a small gathering. Both of our families on both sides were all mad at us for not having a big wedding for the family. By the way, from past family gatherings, it has led to nothing but drama & judgment, from both families we didn't want that. We didn't care for a big wedding but we did want a nice 2 week long honeymoon on a beautiful island in the Caribbeans. We enjoyed our honeymoon & dont regret it at all!! 8 years later to this day our families are still upset about it

My husband and I got married 3 weeks after our first date (we met online 1 week before our first date). We went into the courthouse and walked out married. Everyone told us we rushed it and that it wasn't going to work out because we didn't know each other well enough. 😂 They were wrong. We're pushing 11 years now and our 10 year old son completed the package. Most the people with expensive weddings who told us we wouldn't make it are divorced, and some even expensively remarried. Your wedding says a lot about your individual character, and your individual character says a lot about the long term viability of your partnerships, up to and including marriage.

Actually, your friends were absolutely correct. After all, if my friend wants to point a gun at his head and pull the trigger once and I tell him he should not do that without first taking the time to make sure it's not loaded, I am not then wrong simply because nothing happened when he eventually did pull the trigger without checking. In other words, you got lucky. Nobody knows anyone well enough to get married after only 3 weeks. And even if you did, you have to ask yourself what the big hurry was. After all, everything in this universe has a finite life span and that includes romantic relationships. Your relationship is basically going to last as long as its going to last regardless of whether you are married or not. And in any case the emphasis should always be on finding the right partner and not simply on being married to someone. Marriage does not offer any actual security but people think it is does and so those who are very insecure in their relationship tend to want to marry very quickly. Like I said, you got lucky.

I remember a canadian TV show where two set of reporters posing as couples when to several wedding venues to get quotes for a party. One couple said it was their wedding and the other said it was for her mother´s bithday. Both asked for the same menu, same cake, same decorations. You should expect same quotes no? Wrong! The ones saying it was for their wedding got a quote hthat was a 20% higer than the other. They repeated the procedure in several venues with more or less the same results. I undestrand that wedding dresses can be more expensive that other night gowns because they are usually more elaborate. And also white fabric is much more delicate to handle.. But all the other stuff has no reason to have a different price. Thanks God in my country weddings dont include bride´s maids or groom men.

I got married last April at 20 years old and I have to say… yes. Our circumstances were a bit difficult, since my husband would have had to go back to his home country and I really wanted him to stay. Funny thing is, we didn’t know each other very long before getting married. And it was my idea to get married because I, too believed that marriage was about love, romance and stuff like in movies and books… I had relationships before and I had already learned that relationships aren’t easy but once I fall in love…. well my brain focuses almost only on that person when we are in the ‘’honeymoon phase’’ of our relationship. I quickly had to learn the truth. After we got married, things weren’t as they were before. Nor were things better/more close and romantic. Not at all. Right now I feel like I am living with a room mate. Though I love my husband dearly, it’s not like when we fell in love and I certainly had a hard time last year because of this marriage. Love isn’t everything. Contrary to many beliefs. At least I had a small wedding with a reception at home and a cake made by my mum.

My oldest n dearest friend got married at her home. Her husband's brother was a minister. The dinner was potluck. She used her mother's rings. No gifts, as they already had everything they needed. And none of the silly games everyone hates like "too drunk to find my foot" or guessing the bride's bra size. It was truly fun. And 40 years later, they are still going strong. And instead of blowing their entire life's savings on a ceremony that lasts one afternoon, they sent their daughter to college. Take that, wedding industry. And while we're at it, the funeral industry as well. :)

Funny story about my aunts wedding 3 years back: my aunt and to-be uncle did not fancy the idea of having to spend 65k on a glorified party and wanted to do a simple ceremony on a beach with about 20 friends and family members. My uncles parents were the classic asian type, must have fancy wedding and all that, so instead of doing that my parents and grandparents helped them organize a facade where they would pretend to hold a fancy 50 grand wedding ceremony that in reality costed a little over 2 and a half. All that was paid for was an altar and all the tables, since the beach was public property. Some of my parents and grandparents friends(whom were unknown to my uncles parents) came over to pretend to be the photographer or whatever else, and we got a bunch of distant acquaintances to fill out the required pax that my uncles parents set(at least 50). The cake was a normal cake cooked by my mom and decorated by me and my cousins. The most expensive part was the 1500 dollar wedding dress, which had to be bought because nobody in our family or anyone we knew was artistically talented enough to make a wedding dress.

I know people who have literally had no food in the house, ate at soup kitchens for weeks, can't pay their bills, are in debt up to their eyeballs, and cry because their bank account is constantly overdrawn; all while simultaneously shelling out thousands to pay for a "fairytale wedding" to trick people into thinking they're rich and classy....yet, if I got married in my backyard, had people wear whatever they wanted, had a potluck type reception, and basically kept things inexpensive, these same people would more than likely think that was trashy and sad....yet I have food in the house, my bills are paid, I OWN my house, car, and am in no debt whatsoever, and my bank account is in the black....still, sadly, most folks only care about an illusion....

@BlueTiger9948 this is why weddings should be strictly a religious ceremony. westerners are gonna have a horrible awakening when they realise how bad abandoning christianity was for society.

Personally, I don’t give a shit about what people will think about when I have my wedding if it’s inexpensive and they think it’s cheap and sad, it’s my wedding. You don’t like it? Don’t show up. More cake for me!!!

@@AlfredTheBrave, hang on, what? Christianity says it's a covenant before God and so must last forever, so how would not abandoning Christianity avoid the problem BlueTiger mentioned?

@BlueTiger9948 surely it's still fine to sign a contract, if it's fair and reasonable.
