Baby’s are great when you can hand them off to their parents and go home to a quiet night of sleeping. Until your oldest calls up in the middle of the night because the baby wont stop crying and shes sure somethings wrong and can you please come over to double check. Yea. It really never ends.

I am super waiting for my son who ate all day and all night long to have a kid. My daughter paid me back for my crib escapes starting at 6 months by doing the same. We ended up co sleeping(FYI I know it isn’t the safest thing to do so we did our best to make it as safe as possible )because she was the eldest where I was the youngest and just crawled in bed with my toddler sister. We couldn’t afford our escape artist running around the house all night or sleeping with the dogs.

Our first would get mad every time the car slowed down or stopped. But he loved having fabric close to his face (I guess he thought he was close to me that way?) and being face down. I seriously freaked out when he was maybe three weeks old and I found he'd rolled from back to front in the bassinet the first time. Even now almost 2 years old I often find him asleep face planted and rear straight up in the air!

Quick tip: cook double or triple batches of meals. Freeze the extra in individual serving sizes. ....... Quick tip: have a cold and flu medical kit all ready to go. Have beds made up with mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector, sheet etc...that way, when the entire household is sick, all the kids end up in your bed and your half asleep...when vomit etc happens at 3am, just remove the top layer, scrap off the yuck, flush down toilet, put sheet in machine to soak and go back to bed without waking up ❤

Very true. And the funny blowouts I've experienced was with my oldest boy. As a toddler, he would always have pee blowouts that would destroy the new to market Luvs diapers as they would always split and the little absorbant beads would go everywhere so we'd always know where he went in the house because of the trail! 😅

There's 2 English comics called Hale & Pace who once did a sketch with a baby and used Pace's baby daughter. The biggest laugh in the whole show was when she genuinely threw up over her Daddy. You could tell it was real as Hale was doubled up with laughter!

My oldest blew through an outfit, a spare outfit, a spare onesie, and we ended up carrying him out of church covered only by a blanket after only 45 minutes. I felt so bad for leaving church early. That was a hilarious day looking back. Our second had projectile poop, she could shoot poop (from her butt) 6ft across the room. She only ever had explosive poops till she was 9 months.

I survived this with 2 of my 3 grown children. The fussiest clingiest one is the most independent one with 3 college degrees. Babies have insticts that developed to keep them alive for tenthousand of years, that don't fit to current practises. First and foremost - never get left behind and eaten by predators! So babies want to be able to touch, hear, smell or see their parents at all times. They don't get, that the parents are just a room away and that they are safe. Being rocked is safe, because it means to be moved by an adult, when the tribe is moving. A bare crib is no good hiding spot from predators. A mother who is only half awake at nightly breastfeedings while sleeping next to the child is well rested the next morning, an adult having to get up at nights to go to their child will be tired as hell. So much stress can be avoided when parents know that and arrange their lives accordingly.

Our newest little guy just turned 3 months and there is definitely a limit to what you can actually do with the baby in the carrier (I quickly learned that housework isn't much better that way). Best tip: if everyone is happy and healthy, it's ok to sit and rock your baby instead of sorting the laundry. "Babies don't keep."

I just learned to keep an eye on other cues and go through a mental checklist, and by the time he was old enough to have different cries I was in a routine anyway and it didn't matter. Cries just mean "I need something." If baby smells funny or is trying to nurse on Dad it's pretty obvious what to do next. 😆

Tip #6, and this really is the most important one: Sleep in shifts. If one of you goes to bed early while your partner stays up a bit late, then you switch off around 1-2am, then you can both get plenty of sleep even if the baby never sleeps for long. Interrupted sleep is way worse than the actual effort it takes to care for a newborn. Fix that, and the rest is pretty easy

Or just get a three-sided crib directly attached to your bed and learn to breatfeed while lying on the side. The sleep cycles will sync (no caffeine or alc) and you will only be half awake for feeds and sleep on immefiatly after and you will feel as if you had slept the whole night through.

That doesn't work so well when your husband works at night. I just used a bedside bassinet and learned to nurse in side-lying position. Makes life much more manageable, especially when you have other children that need you to be slightly less of a zombie during the day.

This was perfect. Not every kid is this challenging but lucky me, my oldest was! Trial by fire. I think a lot of it was that she has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome that didn’t get diagnosed until she was like, 20 freaking years old. But for her first three months she was the world’s fussiest kid and we’re lucky she and our marriage survived. I had such an elaborate baby-soothing dance that around that time, when I was at a baby shower, I held someone’s baby for a few minutes and they asked me to tone it down or the kid would expect them to do it. I was a little embarrassed but a lot enraged, on the inside… you telling me your kid settles down WITHOUT this?!? We didn’t even have our own washer-dryer to set her carseat on. We went for a lot of drives… She’s worth it, by the way. She may never be healthy enough to move out, but she’s worth it.

We have 9 kids. You're not wrong. 1) We used those baby wearing holders at first. The more kids, the more arms to hold them in. 2) Baby napped whenever he wanted. We never tried to make things quiet, dark or "perfect". They'll get used to sleeping during noise & light which meant that as they got older, they didn't require "perfect" conditions to sleep then either. 3) Outside can help tire him out, but that's more important as he gets older. 4) Yes, the cries are different, but it takes time to distinguish both for him & u. More often, we just went through the list & check everything in order until something worked. If he's pulling his knees up while crying, it's likely gas. 5) Co-sleeping is the next step passed baby wearing. Nurseries & cribs were ok when u are rich & hiring wet nurses. For us poor folks, wife got sleep, & baby got frequent nursings all night.

Only got 2 but we did the baby wearing, they started out in their own room in their own crib although the youngest slept in a pack'n'play for nine months, they heard all the standard noise of daily life, heard all our music at normal volume, I can vacuum right next to their heads while they sleep, and we lived near an airbase, practically on the runway, so they also got very used to airplane noise and the apartment shaking like an earthquake hit every single time a plane took off or landed.

@@desosmom1 We had certain fantasies in our minds of both idealism & how things were "supposed to" happen w our kids & marriage. We had a 2nd bedroom so we fixed it up cute as a nursery w a rocking chair & a crib. That "dream" quickly turned into a nightmare. It looked good but didn't work. W baby #2, we didn't even try that original plan & stuck w what worked before and then learned that we needed to adapt as each child is different. All kids are easily disturbed by noise when they're first born. You have to TEACH them to tolerate noise. This is harder to do as new parents w 1 kid, but it's easier w 4+ kids where the house is almost always noisy. If they're tired, they lay down & sleep wherever they are. Our 5th would put himself to bed at night even before his bedtime, often without telling anyone.

Don't know for sure how old her kids are, but in a 2018 article I was reading a little earlier, she was talking about "the adults they'll become" in a way that suggests they were not right on the verge of being adults.

my best tip for baby boys is when it's changing time and all is exposed to the world, approach with the replacement diaper in front of you like a shield until it is securely placed downward from the front first, then follow up with sliding the other half under him (basically the opposite of what you'd expect.) and just to be extra safe, make sure you're not talking to him at the time, so your mouth is closed on approach. because those boys have nice young prostates. yeah. best tip.

My grandson was born July 1, 2023 and for the last month his mother (bless her heart :P) carries him around at work with her--he LOVES it...she runs a Donkey rescue! ...those of us who gave birth in the 90's found ways to become deaf to any cries that did not mean necessary food, changing, or burping

Starting with baby nr 3 they were used to live in a big family and couldn't stand quietness. When they were about to sleep I could start hoovering or turn on the radio or have guests over to talk ( not whisper). They would wake up and cry if it got quiet.😂😂😂

Our only way to get our babies to sleep back in the day was to put them in the car and just start driving. About 3 miles of driving usually did the trick... Noooooo idea why.

Yep! Near as I can tell it's: a) they can't move much in their car seat, so they can't keep themselves awake as easily, and b) there's vibration and rocking and background noise!

With my youngest we had our washer and dryer in our kitchen and I would strap him into his car seat and set it on the dryer (with it running) with me siting at the table nearby. Seems the vibrations and the warmth would put him to sleep every time. Only problem is we would have to catch the dryer BEFORE the timer went off so it wouldn't wake him up. lol

Babies have insticts that developed to keep them alive for tenthousand of years, that don't fit to current practises. First and foremost - never get left behind and eaten by predators! So babies want to be able to touch, hear, smell or see their parents at all times. They don't get, that the parents are just a room away and that they are safe. Being rocked is safe, because it means to be moved by an adult, when the tribe is moving. A bare crib is no good hiding spot from predators. A mother who is only half awake at nightly breastfeedings while sleeping next to the child is well rested the next morning, an adult having to get up at nights to go to their child will be tired as hell. So much stress can be avoided when parents know that and arrange their lives accordingly.

So funny with the front pack for the baby, I had one, hahahaha For the most part, I liked it, but it also seemed dangerous doing other things like cooking..... it was great though if I was going to ride the bus or take a walk. I also want to warn people NOT to get a baby swing that is battery operated, they always stop working when the weather is bad or it is too late to get more and cost a fortune, get a plug in one! I think everyone needs to realize how hard it is to raise children with work, sleep, chores, mood, money and everything and be kind to others who are having a hard time. We can offer to even take the baby for a few hours so the parents can bathe or sleep. I believe parents need to live in tribes with others around to help rather than be isolated in their homes, it could save some lives.

Yes, you would actually need three adults simultanelously in shifts to have a great time: One holding and caring for the baby, one doing all the chores and one sleeping. 😂
