This video sheds some light on Schizophrenia. Mental illness is still feared and misunderstood by many people, but the fear will disappear as people learn more about it. If you, or someone you know has mental illness there is good news: HELP is available and treatment is life changing.

My brother was diagnosed with psychosis which is caused by Schizophrenia and other disorders but it isn’t just hearing or seeing things. It is living in constant fear. Fear of being abandoned and you feel like you are being watched. You constantly feel insecure. How much you see or hear things depend on how severe you have it. But everyone with schizophrenia lives in constant fear.

Did they give him medication to correct this and give him back quality of life? Clozaril is the gold standard and they have a new medication the FDA is approving sometime in August of 2023. It's really working wonders - KarTX. It was made for Alzhiemer's symptoms but they found it does wonders for schizophrenia. I pray your brother is better.. Recovery is possible.

I've had schizoaffective disorder since I was 7 years old and this is pretty accurate but there's two things that haven't been mentioned from this, number one is suddle visual hallucinations, things like shadow people in the corners of rooms and another being stuff like walls closing in on you, the other one is something not really talked about and that's the constant music in your head playing, there's times where I'm completely jamming out to The Offspring only to realize about a minute later that I never put any music on

For the record, while I appreciate you raising awareness for mental illness, it's worth noting that schizoprenics aren't often violent to others, they are more at risk of harming themselves. I was pretty good friends with a schizophrenic from elementary through high school and we got along fine, she acted just like any other kid really. So don't be scared of schizophrenics, they aren't violent, I've only ever gotten into physical fights with "sane" people.

Guys, schizophrenia isn't just hearing voices and seeing shit, and as many people also believe, having a split personality. I have schizophrenia myself, so let me tell you a bit about it. I do see things, and I rarely hear shit, but that isn't all. You live in constant fear that people will abandon you, or that they aren't trustworthy. You constantly feel watched and insecure. EDIT august 2021 Schizophrenia is a very complex afflictions with many subtypes and related disorders. The symptoms can be extremely diverse even outside or without any classical hallucinations. If you feel you might be experiencing any symptoms its best to seek a professional that you also feel safe and comfortable with.

The first time I was hospitalized when I was 15 I was diagnosed with schizophrenia because I was having hallucinations and delusional thinking and started self harming while I was at my after school job. Eventually they figured out that I was Bipolar 1 with psychotic features which is just a fancy way to say that sometimes my mania spins up so far that I lose touch with reality and in that case I was in a terrible psychosis. I don't really remember much of what happens during those times but can usually piece things together from what others tell me. I have spent 30 years hating myself because of who I am, I wouldn't wish true mental illness on my worst enemies. I say true because unfortunately it has become en vougue for younger folks to fake illnessess to gain attention for themselves.

I was hospitalized for psychosis and it turns out I have depression with psychotic features. Now, what i considered normal (my psychosis) seems strange and what i considered strange (actual reality) seems normal. I never heard things and had only 2 visual hallucinations which were the world glitching like in the video for a split second, and small things that i would stare at in the dark temporarily disappearing. My psychosis was mostly delusions, and actually a lot of it was simple my fantasies coming to life. My psychosis seemed to alleviate some of my depression actually, sort of like a self-soothing technique.

The thing that annoys me most about schizophrenia is when people in authority make fun of it. I've heard church leaders say I'm feeling a bit schizophrenic today and then laugh. I've called them out on it so many times and they usually come up with some feable excuse. Then people seem to think schizophrenia is a split personality well its not. I hear and see things on a daily basis that aren't there and that's even taking a high dose of antipsychotics and this is my well periods when I'm unwell I see things and hear things almost all the time and they are more graphic and pronounced its hard for me to tell what's real and what's not. I have strange thoughts and think the telly is talking to me. I get paranoid and think people are starring at me. I feel that the whole world is against me and when I hear people laughing I think they are laughing at me. I also suffer from depression and anxiety so have what's called a dual diagnosis my illness is a mixture of schizophrenia and mood disorders and its more commonly known as schizoid affective disorder. I've had this since I was 8 years old though it wasn't diagnosed till I was 18 and I'm now 44.

The most interesting and insightful video of schizophrenia I've seen well done! While I am imagine punching might not be common the voices of sorts, eating problems, anxiety, wanting to run and escape with a feeling of being trapped and a incredibly low self esteem could be very possible for a person diagnosed with the disorder, I couldn't even begin to imagine how it must feel but this video has helped put it into perspective, thanks!

I suffered from Autism but grew out of it some how. Later in life, around the 6th grade, I started having these thoughts but voices almost. The reason why I call them thoughts is because I couldn't physically hear the voices, but I still heard them mentally. I never had physical hallucinating, but I would have horrible images played in my head and couldn't get rid of them. Like me attacking someone who was near me violently and it started scaring me so much. Its a bit confusing...

Thank you for posting this. Some people can't ask for help but always wonder what was wrong with them. Sometimes they learn to ignore the voices that say terrible things and in doing so ignore everyone and their judgements. That helps to alleviate it they say. Although this person says that they have never been violent for people trying to help... They ran and were afraid, but never violent.

Sometimes people i know or see on a daily basis, act in a similar manner to the person in this video. Its normal, it's called a trigger. One of my husband's worst psychosis triggers is any implication that I, our life or our world doesn't exist (so something like that 'the universe is a simulation' theory). Also any mention of Windex will make him believe he drank some, which is very scary. I have triggers because I have PTSD (triggers=something that brings on a flashback, episode of dissociation or intense emotions related to the trauma) so while I don't know what it's like for schizophrenics, I get what it's like generally.

I’ve had to live through this multiple times, acting violent and angry and down right a danger to myself and others. And yes, the voices can command you to do acts you don’t want to do sometimes violent other times they’re saying how you’ll get fat if you eat specific foods or drinks. I’m diagnosed since 16-17 but I never believed them. I still hear and see them. More like whispers. The loudest they ever got was to get my attention by calling my name (for some reason really close to my ear) or I would see shadow figures staring at me from a distance around around a corner. I felt like they are waiting to pounce and hurt me. I always feel their presence like they’re watching me. I don’t take mediation. I’m hesitant on going back to the doctor. Sometimes I think they’re real based on how many people see them. It’s scary.

I have schizoaffective disorder which is like bi polar and schizophrenia combined and I can say its been very hard. I have delusions and I hear voices. One time I thought God was speaking to me. Another time I hallucinated a giant door on the ground where there was huge flames coming out and my voices told me to enter hell because I'm being punished. The scariest thing that happened to me is I hallucinated I was getting my head cut off by a man with a chain saw and knives. I felt the blades hitting my throat and I felt the blood spewing out. I could smell the blood. It was the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced and I thought I actually died. I layed down and hallucinated bugs crawling on me like I was a corpse in a grave. I never have been able to tell anyone because they don't understand. How do I explain to someone I got my head cut off with a chainsaw but not really? It felt real. I start getting anxious just typing this. One time I believed I was a subject of a scientific experiment and the fbi planted chips in my body to monitor me and my recent surgery was a hoax for the fbi to plant devices in me. I also believed that my dog was a robot built by the fbi to do surveillance on me and my family. It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced. If feels like someone's after me and they're going to try to kill me. Sometimes I live in fear. I think, what if I stay like that all the time and i don't recover? It's like I'm gone. You see my body but in my mind that's not me anymore. My soul has left my body, I don't even recognize the people I love when I'm having a psychosis. The part that makes me sad is because of my illness people think im violent or a psycho criminal. I'm not violent, I'm just someone who got unlucky and has a rare brain disease.

I was once taught in a Stanford lecture that schizophrenics are not any more violent that we non schizophrenic human beings. So I don't see why this stimulation is so aggressive. I was taught that they tend to be more of a danger to themselves than to society. I need an explanation.....

Alberto Rivera It's a defense mechanism. Some people think others are out to hurt them and when they are surrounded by people, they just snap and can be violent. I'm the type of schizophrenic (like most from my experience) who runs away without touching others but I've met plenty of people who punch/kick because they think they're about to be attacked. That's what paranoid schizophrenia does to you. Don't act like you know stuff just because you listened to some lecture. The real thing is completely different.

Well said.. my friend was in hospital with schizophrenia and the nurse said, they are more likely to hurt themselves... and are very sensitive.. I agree not all people with this go around like that hitting out etc... I suppose everyone is different... but well said 🌺

There are types of schizophrenia that act violent. This video isn't about ALL the types. It's focused on one type.

I guess that depends on the person, like any non-schizofrenic as well. Some just are violent. It also depends on your flight/fight response. Some go flight (they run, they try to hide, etc.) while some go fight (which is seen in this video).

Just watching this video excludes one thing, when a non mentally ill person watches this they can rationalize what they are seeing is just a video but for someone that actually has this illness it is a desperate and very real reality that consumes you. Im not saying the video isn't good because it is very realistic and a pretty good representation why college was to overwhelming for me. Thank you for this video.

I have a freind who has severe schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. She acts a bit strange due to her multiple mental illnesses, but she has improved sooooooo much. When she was younger her family (who many were also mentally ill) didn't believe she was ill and refused to get her treated. After she became a legal adult she started seeing therapists and taking medicine. She has improved so much since I met her in middle school and I'm proud of her for taking care of herself and getting herself to be better.

I have a strong chance of having schizophrenia, I have very stressful days where it’s worse than others. I have a lot of symptoms for this but it’s possible I don’t have it including; I hear voices harassing me and telling me to do things (for example “ Cut your wrist” “your worthless” “no body loves you” etc) I hear them physically as if they are there not as just simple words in my head of thoughts, I also see things that are in my head such as visions in front of my eyes (I’ll start seeing blood, knifes, horrific images, etc) they all flash at me and startle me. I think those are my main symptoms everyone thinks it’s just grief and stress from loosing my mum 2 years ago but it’s actually not and it makes it worse....it’s super hard when your own family don’t understand you Edit: sorry I have bad spelling

I got diagnosed with residual schizophrenia stemming from my mum who suffered from both schizophrenia and BPD, symptoms such as paranoid auditory hallucinations are pretty common for me where I hear everyone around me in a public space will be whispering negative things about me which has caused pretty severe panic attacks throughout highschool, it's made it really hard for me keep stable relationships with people or connect with people around me.

I used to have those voices in my head, not from Schizophrenia, but from anxiety, to be more specific it's classified as "social anxiety" which is always active if you're not alone. 1:40 is a perfect example

Whenever I'm in the dark, I see creatures with long legs on the floor. Kind of like spiders. They try to grab my legs so I hide them. I hear crackling noises like flames. I also hear a swoosh sound and sounds that replicate a TV noise (when the TV turns off with the black and white bits). Whenever I move, I see shadows in the corners of my eyes. When I'm doing daily activities, I sometimes see people that aren't there. I also hear my parents voices when they never said anything. I hear a child singing a lullaby, which freaks me out. I can also see her, rocking with a teddy bear. It's not fun. I'm on Quietiapine at the moment, it has helped a little.
