Mayim breaks down how our overall stress can have real physical impacts and Iliza Shlesinger discusses being a female among men in her profession, how we as a society struggle to communicate, and how her hectic work life caught up with her in the form of debilitating nerve pain. This plus lots of jokes on Episode 3 of the show.

She’s funny, intelligent, and I absolutely adore her!! I mean... I did stalk her??? And it worked! Cause here we are. (Kidding... well, kinda) 😛 Iliza Shlesinger joins Jonathan and I on a new episode of #BialikBreakdown to talk about everyone’s least favorite thing in the world - stress, and how it can cause physical impact. Or in other words, mind-body syndrome. We discuss more of that in the episode! If I wasn’t laughing then I was probably trying NOT to laugh while recording this podcast. Seriously!! ILIZA IS HILARIOUS. 😂🤣 Such a fun and important conversation. Listen on Spotify: spoti.fi/2KbC1PC Listen on Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/38O09Qp For more, visit www.bialikbreakdown.com

It's so interesting how science, especially neuroscience, it starting to show how many of these 'hippy-dippy' actually have a sound biological basis. I've been watching a bunch of Andrew Huberman's interviews and pod casts (you should check him out), and he has an amazing way to take the complex neuroscience and present it in more layman's terms. He describes the mind-body connection as a contract between the two, where both of them are always reading and reacting to each other to create our experiences. That interview was a lot of fun to watch - thanks!!

"How could she make a joke about someone dying?" I've offended a few that way. I'm a widow. Our twin sons wanted to dress up as their deceased dad for Halloween as a joint costume. One wore his work clothes, the other was a ghost. Their idea...because they knew their dad would find it hilarious looking down from heaven. We know his sense of humor. This is beautiful! I think some people think that we would be somehow tricking our way around the pain involved with loss by acting like that. It is not true. It is just the fitting counterpart to crying that is needed in order to deal with the process and heal and finally come out of it with something beautiful. It is certainly what I would want my family to do when my time has come, knowing it is for the best for all of us.

“why are we killing ourselves trying to force our bodies to be something that you physically can’t?” I felt that
@agod5608
@agod5608 3 жыл бұрын
We are attempting to physically evolve into our spatial environment, to escape the terrarium reality. Thereby being able to take our bodies with us as we colonize space. As if now we can only colonize space in the form of energy.vthis means a total seperation of church,(soul/life)/state, (body and physical senses). This leaves us to be an intuitive spirit in the energy form only. Only through rebirth can we reenter this dimension. This is why no one returns from the energy plane, after the seperation occurs. When you return yourmories would be a secondary dualism, causing a four part harmonic consciousness. (Two pair, as opposed to one pair) of mind body dualisms. The original would be memory only, and and the present would be perspective only. I was friends with a man whom had terminal cancer. We made a pact, he would return when his new younger body became of legal age. It matters not whether he returns or not, the object was to have the opportunity, to leave behind an anchor, which would remain to link the original to the younger, by being witness in both the original, and the new life. This is his eighteenth year, and I fully expect , afterward, he can return at any time. In his original life he was 10 years older than me. In his new life, I am 52 years older than him. In his original life he was the elder, in his new life, I am the elder. Hope this analogy helps.

I feel like Mayim knows about German New Medicine, but will get cancelled if she talks about it. There's no such thing that some diseases you can "catch", but not all. It's not that complex! If you can't "catch" cancer, diabetes, MS, arthritis, etc., from other people, then you can't "catch" colds, flu and Boogey Viruses. So governments around the world are CAUSING fear frights in everyone based on an unproven THEORY by one man, Louis Pastaur, who redacted his claim of the germ theory on his death bed, yet no one listened. So of course, when everyone is allowed to escape the hostage situation the governments have put their people into, and they start relaxing about the Boogey Virus, that's not in any way transmissible, they will begin their healing phase (get sick), and believe they then have it, and more panic will ensue as well as martial law. The longer people allow this government to hold them hostage in their homes, the more severe the "sickness" will be. Can anyone put 2 and 2 together to figure out what I'm saying?? Western Medicine is pure fraud, and people's lives are destroyed because of it. There's no critical thinking anymore. The group thinkers are moronic and brain dead. People think they're educated because they've memorized the lies they've been told for 100 years.

Laughs, tears. I have chronic pain (including fibromyalgia, arthritis and more) and deal with things that my doctors don't understand. So hearing someone else's story of trying to find that answer to what is causing this pain... it felt so familiar. I have dealt with sciatica to the point not being able to stand up straight. I was right there with Iliza, knowing how that feels to be in tears because of intense pain, and not able to sleep. And the toll that takes on you. (My depression and anxiety are greatly effected by my chronic. And some of my darkest mental/emotional times have been from physical pain that felt so out of my control) I normally don't watch videos this long on KZbin, because I'm in a different mindset than when I'm listening to podcasts on Overcast. But this one, I have watched all the way through. Because I've been there. (I'm also moving more towards holistic/hippy ways of managing my health, not just popping pills to knock the rough edges off a couple symptoms. So hearing about some of these new to me ideas has been enlightening... Though at times my overly analytical mind cuts me off, wondering how it all works) Thank you for sharing this! 💜

Literally the longest podcast I've ever made it through in one sitting... it was an intellectual roller-coaster that I didn't expect. I had no idea the conversation was going to go where it went. Let's just say I'm laying here awake, not able to sleep due to chronic pain. I'm coming up on 10 years of this pain and gotten very little relief from countless doctors. I've learned more from this podcast than I have from those doctors over a decade. I now have new ideas about how to approach my pain for the first time in years. Thank you so much! 💓

Yes! 2 amazing women in 1 great episode. My wife and I originally found Iliza on Netflix and watched EVERY special immediately! Loved each one start to finish, then booked tickets to her upcoming gig in London. We and I have had the pleasure of meeting her backstage after the show to take photos and get autographs. As expected, Iliza is so down to Earth and friendly. She really does appreciate the love and time her fans offer. I come under that boring group of straight, white males so rarely voice an opinion on anything. So even as a man, Iliza got me into female stand-up comedians and we've watched so many since watching her. The ribbing joke at men when it comes to dating, sex, etc are hilarious - because they're true. It's brilliant! As you say, she's (of course) funny and beautiful, but tough, confident and ballsy. I love it! I think I can relate to her more as I am also a 37 year old "Elder Millennial" or Xennial if I may (that's a whole other debate!) with no kids. I've always felt that worrying about what others think of me is my worst personality trait and I really struggle with it. As a guy watching this, it was full of truths (that don't necessarily affect me) and extremely educational. On behalf of (most) men I'd like women to know that Iliza isn't wrong. We don't have hugely high, unrealistic expectations when it comes to looks. I am by no means a dictionary definition 'handsome man" so why should I expect my wife to look the same? Also, we met when she was 19 and I was 26. My wife was incredibly thin, some might say too think. She has, of course, filled out a little bit since and I feel she looks better for it. What sort of a**hole would I be to expect her to look the way she did at 19 when she's about to turn 30? I don't look the same either. I mean, she's 8 years my junior and 6' tall and I''m...well I'm not 6", haha! I'm damn lucky to have her in my life and be happy enough to want to stay with me. Soulmate's do exist and you both feel lucky to have the other, I promise. We also have tickets to see Iliza in London again that have been re-scheduled twice already due to COVID, so that's something to look forward to. One thing that sucks about being in the UK is we don't seem to have access to any of Iliza's other shows such as Truth & Iliza

I deprived myself from eating just to achieve again my “petite” body but it did not. the people around me was shocked and i remember them saying mean things to me. it did hurt me, physically, emotionally and mentally. but now, as I learn the science behind these changes in our bodies, I accept it. and I said to myself that my body doesn’t define who I am. thank you for this podcast missmayim and mr. jonathan and ofcourse, iliza❤️ I SUPER LOVE THIS EPISODE.

I went to better health immediately after you mentioned it. Truly, just the thought of trying to find a therapist is so daunting and so overwhelming. Finding someone that your insurance accepts, finding one that's accepting new patients, finding one that has the right speciality, finding one that's local to you, and (most importantly) finding someone that you connect with. It's enough to make most people avoid the process entirely.

Sometimes the universe gives you what you need. I’m sitting on a heating pad and icing my neck and this popped into my suggested. I’m a KZbin junkie because I keep the iPad in my face so I’m not focused on my pain levels. For the past 11 years, I’ve been “managing” my chronic illness which I’ve come to call “lupus and friends”. All the rheumatological things. Went from 35, thriving working full time, extremely involved single parent, full social life to in bed in uncontrolled pain, “what is happening to me, someone fix this”. I went to the ER expecting at minimum an answer but seriously hoping they had a resident Dr. House-like team at best. Yeah, they don’t do that. “Get a referral” is the answer I got. So here I am, crying listening to this interview of two women I admire and adore and just knowing someone gets what living in this pain is like is amazing. I’m yelling “me too,” about the Lady Gaga documentary. Honestly, I paused the video and sent my husband to Vromans for the book. I can’t tell you how awesome this friendship existing is. It’s also a great show that’s helping people.

The last 5 minutes!!! The pain clinic (government health system) I did a program with for 3 months last year was mostly about this! We did a lot of stretching, relaxation, understanding of the mind-body connection psychological/emotional-physical connection, self awareness, mindfulness, plus learning other ways to human. Scientifically/medically it all is recognised now as not just hocus pocus! The “it’s all in your head” is now no longer an insult because a lot of it is in our head and causes our physical pain and vice versa!

I am not a person that externalizes the real things that bother me, and the past couple of years I've made a real effort to reduce the effects of it on my body. I feel like I have a weird advantage, when I was 16 I started taking ballet classes and our teacher covered the mirrors saying that we had to know without seeing, every little movement our bodies made. So that made more aware of the moments when stress was having a physical effect on me. So to my ballet teacher from 10 years ago, thank you for teaching me this level of awareness that has helped me realize I was grinding my teeth and raising my shoulders to my ears.

Thank you. thank you so much.. I've been in excruciating pain due to 2 herniated discs for 10 months now, and I can't tell you how relieved I feel knowing that I'm not the only one crying from physical pain in the middle of the night, after too much sleep deprivation and painkillers. It's lonely, it's scary, and it's dark. I'm a 43 year old strong woman, with no previous serious health problems, and this hit me after 4 years of codependency with a narcissist husband. The minute I ran away, my body broke down. Literally: the day after getting myself to safety, I couldn't walk anymore. The holistic approach is no hippy fairy dust: it shines a light on the powerful connection between our minds and our bodies, a connection that needs to be respected and treated. There is only so much that we can put ourselves through, and our bodies will make sure to let us know if we refuse to listen to reason. Thank you for making me feel seen.

Iliza I am suffering from the same thing. I was bullied by a surgeon for a cervical fusion for C4 and C5, it is a complete disaster 10 months in and I am deteriorating each month and worse. All the doctor keeps saying is its long recovery and I don't think he understands like you said the pain. Thanks Mayim for this podcast it helped me greatly

Mayim, I have also been struggling (since I was 9 and I am almost 75! Many things have helped me, and I am constantly increasing in wisdom (and then IMMEDIATELY losing it on account of the next anxiety!) However, some wisdom sticks. What helps me is: CONSCIOUSLY bending my inner self-criticisms into :THIS is THE challenge for now. I can really feel the difference in anxiety levels. I could go on forever, but I would rather watch your next episode!

These two give me Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins vibes, in how aggressively supportive of and genuinely loving they are to each other :) Also- my experience with extreme pain on painkillers was exactly the same as Iliza describes it here. You’re still in pain, you just don’t care about it as much. It’s an awful feeling. So glad she’s found some relief!

Taking notes form Eliza all the way through. Thank you Mayim for interviewing your friend. Iliza talking about authenticity and point of view focused on saying things she stands behind was pretty powerful for me. I left a lifetime in Santa Barbara California and settled on a homestead farm in Canada because my wife is like that. I write letters from the farm on Facebook and a publisher wants to talk. Nothing I shared about politics or opinions on social issues matters to people I write to. Birthing lambs, finding skunks in the barn, writing about pieces of past lives I've found plowing a field and what's in the pockets of my dirty farmer jeans seem to matter more. Thanks.
