Illumination's New Film Is Genuinely Good

This is a movie that tried to give a message for younger and older audiences, something that other Illumination movies didn't do. I'm really sad that alot of people didn't give a darn about it.

I just saw Migration, about 10 days after it came out. And honestly, both it and Wonka are actually better than I originally thought (But Wonka’s a whole different story.). Migration has to be one of Illumination’s best movies, and I hate to say it, but despite the backlash, Illumination has been on a recent winning streak, by making genuine heartwarming good movies, that my high school sweetheart would gush about. But I never had a high school sweetheart, so I’m just talking praise I guess. Honestly, Elizabeth Banks’ character Pam, is probably my favorite part of the movie. Probably because she was pretty funny, adventurous, tough, but kind & sweet. So yeah, I like Migration. it reminded me of the Rio films, that I would call this one a worthy successor.

I love this movie! It’s nothing too special. But I like how the road trip format is through the eyes of ducks! The voice acting is great, I really enjoyed the NY section the most, and even the villain had me intimidated at times! I hope this movie does better by the time its screening finishes. It’s not billion dollar box office worth like TSMBM, but at least to where it makes big enough bucks to keep things afloat.

Personally, I think Illumination have mastered the art of simple family films that you can just go and enjoy. I grew up with the Despicable Me series and Rise of Gru captured that same essence, the first Secret Life of Pets was pretty decent, I do like The Lorax regardless of how dumb it is, and the Mario movie was amazing, and a real treat for Mario fans. I hope they can keep continuing.

I loved the film. I found myself relating to not one, but multiple characters. I enjoy watching movies and shows with relatable characters, good character devolopement, quality animation, and humor, and this movie provided all of that.

Like you saud, this film isnt anywhere near the "groundbreaking" success that most popular storytelling animation have today. But it does feel light-hearted, and after what ride we've had in animation this year, i think it alright. I also do think that maybe this could have worked better as a Tv mini series, as that could be something Illumination should try to experiment with for original titles.

Something that I liked about this film was the amount of time they spend in each place like New York for example, if they spent most of the film there then it wouldn’t feel like an actual migration. But luckily they spend about 15 minutes there which is pretty good. The trailers got me thinking this would be a new yorkish movie but luckily that didn’t happen and I’m glad they spend the right amount of time at each location

I was interested in the middle part when the "you're brave" discourse got in the protagonist head and he started making decisions that put his family at risk. I thought the movie's message would be that, although it's good to be bravery, too much of it leads to mistakes that put others at risk. The movie didn't take that direction, but I feel that it had the potential to go for it.

It was alright. I really liked the feather animation and the music, and the villain was menacing. I also love that the ducks were designed accurately to real life. The only problem, and it's a big one, is that the motive for reaching Jamaica is too empty. They wanted to get there because they... Felt like it. And all the struggles along the way weren't even relevant to the migration itself, they were just from that one chef guy. Which means that again reaching Jamaica felt empty. They had already escaped the threat. Jamaica was just a treat. They should've made them migrate because they had to rather than because they wanted to. It'd open the doors for a lot of character development. Also I hated how that one pigeon had a human shaped head

I agree with the graphics on the ducks because they added stuff that I never would have thought to see in any movie with ducks especially from Illumination. I raise ducks and to see how graphic they made them look, makes them almost look real I like where Illumination is heading and hope they keep it up 👍🎉❤🦆

I told my mom the movies coming out on December, like the boy and the heron and migration my mom asked to choose between the two and I chose the boy and the heron instead. 3:16 I haven't watched the movie, but I listen to most of the score and I gotta say, for something composed by John powell a forgettable score, that's new.

the fact that Migration is technically making less money than Wish, but isn't even getting a FRACTION of the discourse that Wish is getting isn't surprising. but it's very annoying how clear the double standards are.

Wish cost $200 million to make and Migration cost $72 million. So far Wish made $180,667,786 in the box office while Migration made $118,084,154 in the box office. Disney lost money on Wish while Migration as already turned a profit despite the fact that Wish has been out longer than Migration has. Compared to other Disney movies, wish is a flop and that's why it's getting so much attention, while compared to other illumination movies, migration is doing pretty good. It's not fair to compare the two because everyone had different expectations for them. You expect good meals at a family diner, but if you got the same quality of meal from a fancy restaurant, you would be disappointed. It's not a double standard if the standards are different.

I haven’t seen the movie but this video made me actually want to see it. When I saw the poster in the theater (which was the first time I heard of it) I thought Illumination was running out of ideas and that the movie would have a bad plot and bad humor (fart jokes etc.) but I might’ve judged it too fast and I’ll probably give it a go. Thanks for a good review, as always.

I absolutely love this movie. Amazing job by Keagan with Delroy. His accent is not perfect but it’s next to impossible for a non Jamaican to do a believable Jamaican accent. I found the whole movie hilarious and a tearjerker at times. I don’t what’s wrong with many of these reviewers on KZbin. They’re just whining about nothing.

I’m hoping to give this a watch eventually, since supporting good original animation that isn’t pandering to social justice issues is really important to me. Just because a movie has a message doesn’t mean it should be pushed as the only reason you should see the movie. Illumination and Dreamworks are two studios that aren’t going “hey look how forward and progressive we are!” And their original stuff is worth checking out!!!

@@alekscrusher1571 I tend to watch A LOT of movie reviews from different channels, so I can't recall exactly which ones, but hating illumination seems to be a common trend. More often than not, they will dislike illumination because of their "shallowness" and their stories which appeal to the masses. Most of the channels i see are decently large though. Perhaps I can try to re-find the videos I've seen

saw it for myself a week... it didn't impress me. it has a nice message with great animation and a few funny scenes, but with a pedestrian plot, weak writing and characters that weren't as strong as they could've been, i feel like this movie is another case of - what i call - Illumination fever: movies so middle-of-the-road, they won't stick around with you for long. all-in-all, didn't hate it but didn't like it either. meh...

A road trip movie like Finding Nemo and Wild wild west with; a poop joke, Awkwafina as an annoying bird, a simple story, animals going to New york (Like in The Smurfs 1 and 2, Alvin and the chipmunks, Hop, Tom and jerry live-action.) is good? Yes the backgrounds are pretty and the animation is ok but to me, it's not enough to be interresting. If the characters are annoying, the jokes are bad and the locations they explore are not new; not sure i will watch it. I'm glad other peoples can enjoy it 🙂

That’s all… that sucks. The story line may have been generic, but seriously, any other movie that you think is good also probably has the same generic plot, just told differently. Characters trying to get from point A to point B. Or Characters trying to achieve something and do at the end. But every film studio makes it different, and this was different, this was fun. I’m a dude and I have to say it was definitely focusing more on the parents which I really enjoyed. And looking at it all, not every movie now has a set of two funny, caring, different yet very captivating parents for movies. I really appreciated it. So, in my opinion it didn’t suck and I don’t have poor taste, I just have different opinion on what a good movie is. So do you, you didn’t like it but that doesn’t mean everyone who did is bad at choosing movies, it makes you look arrogant and mindless toward other people’s thoughts on it. Everyone is different, just realize that.
