People should also see that Iroh was also a general, and Iroh was in that war meeting. Iroh had no problem, or at least he wasn't bothered enough to speak out against sacrificing the 41st Division. Both in the animated series and in the live-action version. This really showcases how Zuko's level of compassion and therefore his potential for great leadership even surpassed Iroh.

@@championred3619 That just makes no sense because Iroh have sacrificed troops before. That's a major part of warfare. His crew misunderstood him so much that Zuko was bad-mouthed by his crew saying that he is bratty and spoiled. The only way he was respected by his crew in the cartoons was during the episode; the storm when he saved a crewmate from being flung overboard when their ship was ravaged by the storm. that scene was heartwarming even though Zuko had a rough past, there is still good left in him. This change is infinitely better than the cartoon version and I am digging it.
@TayoEXE
@TayoEXE 4 ай бұрын
What I like is that the cartoon helped them sympathize for Zuko and make sense out of his anger and harshness toward them. What is beautiful in this version is not just understanding of him but what he did for them. They're the same as him. Seen as nothing but a tool that can be cast away at any moment by the Fire Lord if he thinks you're too weak. It was newfound respect and not just pity. Zuko's characteristics are shown early on here. He knows what it's like to try and live up to big expectations but "everything just blows up in his face."

@@akaneriyun4774but he did earn their respect, in a much more dangerous and more affecting way than saving someone in a storm. He gained grevious bodily injuries, gave up his life as a Prince and was put into exile on an almost impossible mission, all so that he could save their lives. Yes, him saving someone's life in a storm is respectable and definitely would be a great method, but I don't see how it can be seen as him earning more respect through that, compared to the respect he earned through his actions in saving the 41st. It may be belated respect, but as soon as they understood, it was given.

May it be the 41st division, or the very compassion he had that allowed him to still have a heart to those who needed it.

In the original, the crew got to know what Zuko really is after Iroh told them about Zuko being banished due to him caring for the lives of the soldier's that they're about to send as fodders in the war. He was sent to a mission that is deemed impossible to accomplish since the Avatar was believed to be dead until Aang showed up. The crew understood his hardship and came to respect it. Top 13 things that the Netflix Adaptation of Avatar TLA did right: 13) Casting Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai 12) The scene in the spirit world between Katara and her mother 11) Caring about the source material (SCREW YOU M. NIGHT SHYMALAN!!) 10) Establishing Azula as a main character and force in season 1 instead of 2. 9) Ian Ousley's performance as Sokka 8) The scene in the spirit world between Aang and Monk Gyatso (In fact, ALL scenes involving Monk Gyatso) 7) The fight scene between Master Pakku and Katara 6) LIKE THE SHOW striking a balance between the goofy humor and the gut wrenching serious moments 5) The flashbacks in the episode 'MASKS' and the backstory of the 41st Division. 4) Dallas Liu's performance as Prince Zuko 3) Gordon Cormier's performance as Aang (He's just a kid, has to be great at Martial Arts, needs to show a wide range of emotions, maintain Aang's playful energy and charisma from the OG show, AND carry the show as its titular character) 2) THE BENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1) Lu-Ten's funeral scene

I agree with everything besides the Pakku and Katara fight, unless you are excluding the way it ended. The fight itself felt right out of the OG show even including that cool scene where Katara throws the ice disk and Pakku sees his reflection and then looks back at her surprised. I just didn't like how it ended with Pakku still not acknowledging her, and ignoring Gran-grans necklace. Everything else I agree though, I'm really loving the Zuko side of things and the 41st division explanation thing was very cool as I didn't realize that was the case in the original show.

Yeah, they scuffed some really big stuff up in terms of early introduction and utilizing some characters, but when it lands, it lands big. I am hopeful for the future seasons if the writers take the criticisms and work on it. This is still redeemable to some degree. Let's not forget that Book 2 is ALSO where the animated series elevated from "good' to " Absolutely amazing! " As long as the writers don't mess it up and improve, this can still be good.

With complete honesty I feel this series improves Zuko’s character. Because it his emotional side and inner turmoil which is basically all the original series focused on early in the show. But this series is great because from season 1 it establishes his future as a leader. It shows his compassion and wisdom. And how qualities like that will make him a better leader than Ozai ever was. Refusing to sit by while the 41st was sacrificed, choosing to save Iroh over capture Aang, being the only one to truly comfort Iroh at the funera and giving him company during his grieving. Even his search for the avatar. Aang acknowledges how impressive his notebook is. Ozai really sent him on this expedition because he most likely didn’t believe the avatar was really out there but Zuko took the mission seriously. Others would have accepted the exile in shame and just reserved themselves to wander the world for the rest of their life maybe hoping to find a new home. But from the start Zuko took the task seriously and never lost hope. Pursuing rumors of the avatar with extreme determination. That alone is a great quality in a leader. That when everything feels stacked against you that you can still believe in the impossible and pursue victory. I did enjoy the series much more than I had criticisms. Although I felt most of the characters were done very well. There were a couple characters I did think were portrayed poorly but that’s just me. But I think many would agree that Zuko was done very well and was given some of the best treatment in terms of writing for this series which I feel is important and I’m glad they nailed.

Parents in all societies tend to favor the children that are the most like them, and tend to feel repulsed by the ones least similar to them (even if the parents themselves don’t realize that they hate these “different” children). Since Azule is more like Ozai than his son is, he’s naturally going to be more invested in her.

Zuko never once told the Lieutenant why they were the crew on his ship each time they got into an argument. Zuko felt he wasn't worthy enough to boast about their lives being spared on the count of him speaking out in their defense. In live action everyone is fleshed out which makes live action a worthy watch. Remember that live action can never match the funny and goofiness of the og but in other aspects it may outshine the og. If done right. I like the fact that ozai isnt a total psychopath that cares little for his kids. He actually does care. In his own twisted harsh version. In the og its mever implied to this level. So the live action giving the fire nation specially the 41st and ozai and azula ( total psycho at start itself. But in live action shes willing to prove shes the heir and in the agni kai she wasnt relishing the moment but she was A tiny bit sad but stood strong cause she cant show weakness ) are fleshed out really well. While the live action wasnt as good as the original overall, it was a better attempt then most ive seen when it comes to remakes. But this scene was the best of the whole series. Showing what happened to the unit that would have been sacrificed, and showing them become truly loyal to zuko what they found out his burning was for them. It was a better explanation of why the crew was chosen than in the cartoon...though sad that new loyalty made it easy for zhao to manipulate the lieutenant later on instead of something positive.

This scene provides answers to both questions, in a manner that respects the cartoon, while deepening the bond between Zuko and his crew, as well as adding weight to Iroh’s words that Zuko understands pain, loss, and sacrifice, as he (Zuko) has already done so for the crew, three years ago. And Zuko never even brought it up, not even once.
