At first I didn't understand the title, but when I heard your advice I got convinced very quickly. As I'm not confident in my work or myself, I tend to always want to rely on people's opinions, and take it like they are all "right", when they're just opinions I can agree or disagree with. The amounts of projects that I ended up throwing away or do against my will is huge. I think my art school education is partly to blame, it's a place where your friends and teachers have to check every stage of a project to be constructive. Which isn't a wrong way to teach, but you have to teach yourself that in your pro or personal life there won't be an omniscient teacher to validate your work. You have to do it yourself.

The problem I have is I don't fully trust my own judgment, so I feel like I need other people's input to help gauge my work, if I even do any. My negative thoughts usually cancel whatever it is I think of doing, so then I talk myself out of it. It sucks, but outside confirmation is often the only way I feel better about whatever I'm doing. I need outside validation that I'm not crazy for doing/thinking XYZ. I'm not sure how to change that.
@peuloose
@peuloose 2 жыл бұрын
@@autumnzephyr That's also completely valid. Might seem cliché to say, but I guess life is all about balance. Learning to trust your judgement and take the most out of people's judgement. I don't have any tips to achieve that though. All I can say is that, in my personal experience, support helped me gain confidence in my judgement. So I hope that happens to you too overtime.

This is particularly the reason why u see academic taught artists, although very skillfull, stuck in the mud in a style(usually their professors) or a philosophy of thought... So u end up seeing a copy of a copy of a copy, which is 99 percent of artists; and this isn't a bad thing necessarily because tradition is a good thing; it's my belief that anyone can't b taught to draw or paint, it helps if u start young; But! Few were born to Artists-

Love this! I never told anyone, outside of my husband and kiddo, that I was getting my Masters is a completely different field than what I was working towards. After 2 years, I posted a pic at graduation and people were shocked, in a good way. I don't usually ask for anyone's opinion or input, I just do. But I am also 47, so I have learned to truly live life on my terms.

Same thing has happened to me too. I’ve applied for uni and everyone asked what I will be studying - so it’s kind of an unavoidable question. But i had some mixed response, responses that made me second guess my decision several times. That’s why i prefer not to tell people my plans. Feel v lucky too, to have had this video on my feed. I guess it kind of a sign ✨

Yes! Sometimes I share with people my dreams, things I deeply hope to accomplish (but my have some slight uncertainty/not full confidence or courage)... then they share some doubt, maybe "practical advice" that discourages away from my idea, pitfalls etc... and then that seed of an idea becomes plagued by what other people tell me. It can be hard to filter it out! I'm realizing it's better just to act, than sit around discussing ideas with someone and having them share doubts etc.
@Hotpotatogal
@Hotpotatogal Жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed that same as well. What I do now, is write it in a journal, because of course I have doubts but when it’s said out loud to me then it will def not come to fruition for me. It’s like discouragement even though they’re probably thinking logical for me.

I love the omnipresence of gold in this one : from the dominant colour of your oil painting in the composition, to the ribbon around your curtains and hair, to the Tolstoy quote and even the music felt like dripping gold (oh and to your ✨ emoji in the comments X) ). You give great attention to details and your gold concept really popped out and made the video feel wholesome. I'm proud to be among the early subs, you're simply amazing !

Hey! I loved reading your comment. And yeah, I was also attracted to the music she put in the video. I clicked the link in her description. But, it had some issues opening up. While watching the video, I realised that the music playing at 2:56 is somewhat similar to the mysteriously attractive tune in the movie 'Snowhite & the Huntsman'. Then, I searched it up and if you check this video out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIXCYX6hjtKVr6s , you could hear that same tune at 3:18. Hope you found the relevance. If you find a better KZbin video which covers the full song from this video, kindly let me know. Thank you for reading till here, if you did. :)

What I admire so much about you is that you take the time for everything. You don’t rush anything, you take the time to plan your artwork, when you feel like you need to take a break, you take one and when something doesn’t turn out the way you want it to, you start again. It takes a lot of willpower, motivation and strength to do that and I’m so happy you want to share that with us so we can learn from you

I feel like a deflated balloon. It is like a constant internal struggle of to tell or not to tell. But After years of trying. I decided to only tell after I am done with the creative part. Very often we are not able to express our thoughts strong enough because it takes too much time, our thinking process is also soo unbelievable fast that we can‘t count all the reasons why our idea/ dream is so great. And there is also this thing called ‚gut feeling’ which is super important to be aware of. It can guide you so well. It‘s also a part of your paintingprocess. Also called Intuition. I should make a separate video about this topic 🌱thank you 🤍

Nice to meet you, I will be definitely coming back to watch your journey starting from today. Thank you for inspiring and not “influencing” in a sense of shifting mind to some right or wrong side. The painting is beautiful, and the fact you only listened to your own view and feelings makes it only even more inspiring. The next piece of music I will make I’ll try your technique of avoiding outer opinions, already predicting the inevitable inner amazement as I do that. All the best to you! I'm still in school but I get comfort from watching your videos, I take it as a learning as well as a soft form of entertainment, I enjoy watching them as breaks from studying, Even though I should be taking criticism and being social but I really don't want to be the over-popular smart-kid in my class, I really don't like it when I'm being judged and compared, hear me out, my parents are the main ones doing it, I know they just want me to try something else but that isn't my main interest and my desire, I feel happy staying in a friend group of 4-5 people, I enjoy spending time on listening to music and thinking about stories or watching anime and kpop videos like any other teen my age, I believe in myself that I am good enough for the admiration of others, I am a person who has grown to be afraid of criticism, I really shouldn't but my anxiety gets me, I'd really appreciate it if people will understand that I am sensitive in the topics they judge me on, I know full well I will never be good at that, that criticism is not helping me, I'll be the judge on what is actually working for me and what is not, I just want your simple kind opinion not harsh judgment Anyways that turned to a vent than a comment- But I really want some advice here, I'm young and my parents say I shouldn't but I have come to the point to stop telling them and I don't get alot of time to talk with my teachers properly (I know they do their best but stil) well yeah you get the point here 😅

I can't explain to you which element it was that moved me - maybe it was the gold in the sunlight, maybe it was you, maybe it was the music - there is so much beauty and life and celebration and peace that it unlocked emotions I haven't felt in months. In a way I agree there’s something about keeping your head down and just following your own vision. But at the same time many of my biggest accomplishments (esp long term goals) happened with the support of the right people keeping me accountable and encouraging me just when I wanted to give up. All about balance I suppose.

In my case it will never happen because despite my parents love they're not very organized in their life and didn't supported me financially when I needed it the most during my college days, we also had to sell our home due to sudden financial needs and now it's pretty hard for me to get a job because there's a lot of competition in my country and I need to pursue a good degree in order to find a job and start working on my art career. Telling about my dreams to my parents and siblings is pointless at this point because an individual has to be a little bit stable from both physically, emotionally and financially. Once I got envy of my friend whose siblings and boyfriend supported her financially, physically when she decided to make her own art studio and it made me sad because of the lack of support I have😞. One thing I have learned in life is that "WE CAN ALL WHAT WE WANT BUT NOT EVERYTHING AT ONCE." Just waiting for these 2 years to complete as soon as possible:) Anyways I'm happy for you and the supportive people around you💕

I agree balance is crucial. In the recent change of my life I've found different people than I expected supporting me, and certain other people who simply can't understand or help/support me much in my dream right now. And it won't ever be everyone. So I'm finding that balance right now. To keep that small group of of the right people to keep me accountable and encourage me, while just keeping my head down and focusing on my vision otherwise.

I so agree with you. I’ve found sharing my ideas and plans used to get poopoo’d a lot, even by other creative types (that’s eye-opening). I’ve been online for a long time and have watched people have an epiphany and lay out all their new routines, what they will modify, and a firm timeline to adhere too. Think New Years resolutions. That is not necessary, honestly. I’ve seen it lead to beating oneself up numerous times, then starting the cycle again. I shouldn’t be the one to talk because I had a Livejournal. I love your video!

i could tell from the way you type that you had a livejournal lol. but to each their own i guess. some people have to tell others what they're up to so that they don't go off track or bail, and others want to keep their art pure-away from others' perspectives. personally, i don't really like people knowing my whereabouts or what i dream of accomplishing one day. so we seem similar.

VALERIE I love your videos. Your channel is doing well. Don't tell anyone your dreams so that your dreams stay yours and are not altered by the judgements or critocisms of others. When we talk about them it is a waste of our energy. Keep it for the painting as well as for your life

This video came into my life unpredictably - I just saw it in the KZbin recommendations while searching. But it's so true and close to me. The ideas behind, confidence, and creator's mind of Valeria inspire so well! Seems like I speak to my friend who never criticizes and always understands what I'm going to say. That's so wonderful that you can meet soulmates everywhere today🐱❤❤❤

I’m a handicapped senior who painted for many years. As I become more acquainted with my disability, I want to start painting again. Like many others, I happened upon your videos accidentally. They are gently coaxing me back to the easel, or table at least. I have two questions, so far…. What brand is the gold oil you are using? And which gold is it? I will keep watching for new videos, as many as you feel inspired to share with us. Thank you!

Dearest Valerie- you have inspired me in a huge way, and I thank you . My art studio was quite a mess, and the table was over run doubling as a paperwork-bills, etc area as well as art. I have done a huge studio cleanse and am so ready to begin creating. I even placed a candle on my art table like you do, something i have never done before. I am pleased with the zen atmosphere this candle brings. please keep making these videos and sharing your time with me. I love you, and for the time that I spend watching you, I have had a daughter in you. You are precious and a gift ! 🎁

Hi Valerie, somehow I stumbled onto your video and the title intrigued me. I want to thank you for explaining this in the most simple yet profound way. I used to share my goals, dreams and other things with people and sometimes I wouldn't continue because I'd be influence by their "suggestions." Or sometimes I stopped working on projects because I wasn't motivated anymore. It's been about 5 years since I've kept from telling people my ideas and things and I have seen the difference in the result. The music is beautiful and relaxed me. I've subscribed!!! :) By the way who is the artist and name of the song? You also paint beautifully!!

The beauty found in these videos are unlike any other, The amazing painting, The interior design, The visits to museums the way you capture the area in which you travel, It all makes me want to look after myself better and learn to live a little. Last year I visited a town in Belgium called De Haan and it is probably my favourite place, The sunset was beautiful, the transport links with trams going down to the other towns and the journey on a small boat to visit a town with a train station that took us to Bruges. I feel like I had to get that out there, Thank you.

i have just watched many other channels with cozy art vlog ingredients but there is an element of "disjointed friction" at times (to me for what "I" seek, but spoken with all due respect for such gifted talent in you ALL) ... however, you Valerie have got the blend "JUST RIGHT" for me at least where I experience a "drifting thru fluffy clouds of pure chill" listening to you and watching your creations, I gaze into nothingness at times and your spoken words reach parts of my inner being that you describe as "the flow" and it IS a meditation with guided wisdom and a plethora of creative open doors that I'm not experiencing anywhere else ... but it's priceless and healing to experience. You said somewhere on your videos that we are all entitled to agree/disagree with what is spoken anywhere in life but I find that one seeks out specific channels where the message of each video is just right and in tune with out hearts and souls with just everything ... my comment just way too deep ! didn't intend that but one is a long time dead so speak whilst you can .. thank you Valerie
