I bet you heard "Life is short" many many times...but ever think about why it feels like that? In this Art Vlog I will take everything slower than usual, paint a Painting with Gouache and draw a small drawing with Polychromos / Colored Pencils. Both of them are concepts for upcoming Artworks. Taking a few steps back also helped me to realize why I have a bad sleep the last months and bring in general more calmness into my room ❄️Enjoy this Cozy Art Vlog 🤍

I feel the major reason why we think we have a short life is because we are too focused on end results. Always dreaming about a golden future rather than enjoying the present. Love your works as always , i really liked the self portrait study you did and i do hope you would surely paint it in future! Lovvee you valerie ❤️😘 you look beautiful as always!!❤️

true, thats ingraved in us. It was essential when we were hunters and gatherers to survive but time changed too fast for us human that we have trouble enjoying the present. We think too much about the future like our life depends on it while we miss our hopefully stable life now

I am going through what you went through with sleep. I am figuring it out. I still have a long way to go to change my habits. Part of me loves the night. In earlier years, I worked the night shift. It was usually exciting and I was making a good salary. I just happened to find the perfect job. I thought it would last forever or that I would find another job just like it. Then I didn’t. It was a once in a lifetime thing. And it was part of a historical moment in NYC nightlife. Things always change. Culture changes. What people crave changes. And we have to learn to adapt. So now I live much more in the moment. I plan. I write things down. I try very hard to stay in touch with the reality of what I am doing and where I am living. I learned to paint years ago. One teacher had us prime the canvas in gesso mixed with burnt sienna. It’s how she painted and she was successful. I love the white canvas and the way you paint. I’m starting to understand that I don’t have to listen to everything I am taught.

I also have two books I re-read every year, because how influential they were for my life, and each year reading I learn something new about myself & the work itself. @@itsjustme. That would be Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and The Centre of the World by Andreas Steinhöfel. They're both fiction, but I truly believe that it doesn't really matter which specific books you read, but your personal connection with them. So it could really just be any book or even movie! Hello Valerie Lin. I continue to watch your videos since finding you last night. Maybe it's your lack of pretention or just your gentle nature and honesty and sense of humor, but yours is just the kind of 'material' I often need these days (or nearly any days). It is not easy at all to find someone whose nature is so welcoming and engaging. As I get older and nearer to leaving this earth ( for a while at least) I am blocked in a major way. I push myself to paint a bit and try to at least sign unsigned pictures, but I am so self-conscious about (eventually) dying that I don't know what to do! I have hundreds of things that I have created but don't know what to do with them. The environment I live is so friggin' STILTED that the notion of showing my art around here is thwarted immediately by the prospect of rejection, even before the fact. I still love art and most things to do with art, like seeing you work, listening to your thoughts, seeing you smile, hearing the music, and listening some more to your thoughts. I am so much less alone because of what you are doing, and I am sure enough that hundreds of thousands of others are as well, thanks be to you! How I wish I knew what to do with my art. What do you do with yours, Valerie? (I also am self-taught almost completely). My first girl friend was a Valerie. My only wife was a Lynn : )

Thank you for being the person that you are, the beautiful soul, creative, calm person. You gave me peace on so many levels of my life in the last 2 weeks. I didn't paint or draw for the past 4 years and you gave me the missing element for me to start over. Ever since your first video I watched of you, I've made 5 watercolor, 2 drawings and 1 acrylic painting. And that's major for me as I'm a really busy woman (wife, mom and working 70hrs+/week (I have 2 jobs)). My mom passed away this weekend and how much it does hurt, you helped me go through this difficult times of mine. I'm more peaceful knowing that she will not suffer anymore. Oops this was my comment for your video on watercolor/gouche of airplanes; oh well. You have grown so much and changed. Keep working on you and forget about what old, not so well intending friends think or say. We can change and grow and get better both in controlling our thought behaviors and developing work skills. Fantastic watercolor results with the new supplies and new subject matter-planes! What a sweet thing to leave a art present for the first "early bird".

I love your videos!! They're so amazing. Usually when I watch art vlogs, I tend to get insecure about my art. But your videos put me really calm and make me feel great about myself and my art skills, understanding that everything is a process and I need to be kind with myself. Thank you so much for sharing them 💕

I loved that intro I laughed when I was writing it in my journal and wrote down "unnecessary knowledge" because I am a life long student. It's one of the things that brings me peace in the time I use for myself though 🤗

I always love watching your videos! You are such an inspiration for improving all areas of art. I totally understand the whole blanket situation too! The same thing happened to me! My house was built in the 1950s and we still have the old windows. I bought a quilt thinking it would keep me warm but I ended up getting a cold instead! Turns out it was a summer quilt 😔 I then forced myself to buy a thick comforter. It's in the most beautiful yellow color and It has made my bedtime so precious to me. Sending lots of love and support!

Beautiful video. And very timely for me. I lost someone this week in my family who was very young 💔 . We need to live our days finding love in the little things, prayer, and thankfulness...and realize what a blessing life is. Tomorrow isn't promised.😌.

just a few minutes ago i was sitting with my sketchbook in front of me, along with the reference. I had all the stuff that i needed to draw. but i somehow couldn't get myself to draw. now after watching Valerie's video, i feel very refreshed and i suddenly feel like i gained the interest in being productive. Valerie's videos just have some cozy vibe to them which makes people feel like home. :)🌼
