A feral cat who has never been socialized with humans wont though. Plus I'm fairly certain that that notch cut into its ear means it has been picked up by animal control before, been given treatment, and spayed/neutered. Most signs point to abandoned pet.

Strays that have been through a TNR program get their ear clipped like that. It just means this community is taking care of the colony and making sure they’re healthy and got them spayed/neutered and vaccinated. It wasn’t some accident or trauma, it was done in a controlled environment by a doctor so the community knows not to stress him out anymore trying to bring him in or to have someone start a surgery on him that he’s already had.

If you can imagine, a cat like this sleeping outside, is always on guard to defend itself, even when it tries to sleep. There is no comfort in that life. The moment he felt safe, his eyes started closing. He could finally relax, knowing he was safe, that someone else could defend/care for him. I hope you adopted/took the cat with you after this. It's a community cat, these are common in many parts of the world, especially Asia. In Hong Kong we used to call them temple cats because it was common to see them snoozing on the statues. Also I am certain the Daoist priests fed them. They're sort of everyone's pet and everyone looks after them, it's rare to see a thin one. Each of our house cats disappeared for a while at some point. All came back a little chubbier than they left. Reckon they ran down to the local temple to go mooch off the priests. 'mew! mew! please kind master I am but a poor waif' *big kitten eyes*.

Yeah...this kitty cat is owned. Look at his weight, fur condition, and general hygiene plus friendliness to a stranger. This is likely a cat who still has a home, but just goes out without a colla. Either way, super sweet kitty!

Good to see the ear has been tipped and looks healthy. At least he/she has been fixed and probably vaccinated. Just because an outside cat is friendly doesn’t necessarily mean they were someone’s pet; just means they have had good interactions with humans.

As some comments explains there’s a high possibility it’s a Community cat: a stray that doesn’t have or never had an owner, but roams from place to place within a local community where that community collectively takes care of it. You see how one ear is clipped? It’s an indication it’s been vaccinated because the clip has too clean a shape to look like it was from a fight.

A lot of stray cats are friendly like that if they live near a friendly community. If enough people are kind to them, pet them, and feed them scraps, then they come to trust people. It's how you end up with things like "community cats" or cat island.

Max Buckley His ear is actually a sign that he has been sterilized. Some vets cut the ears like that so they know which stray cats have already been spayed/neutered.

The cat is 100% not feral, also I find it hard to see it as a stray. It is way 2 well-groomed for a cat that has wandered from its home, it's not long gone missing or is not a lost cat at all.

Cats in these parks look well fed and used to human affection. That's nice. I don't think encouraging a cat population in parks is acceptable in the US. Too bad because it's a wonderful idea and attraction. And I bet there isn't a rat for miles. I have noticed that several have a piece missing at the end on an ear and it always looks like a V shaped wedge. Any ideas on that? I've owned many cats and have never seen that before.
