My heart started racing like i was actually about to run. 😂😂😂

Research has been done on this, too. Running out of the blocks, the initial push (very brief, but quite sharp) is from the REAR foot; THEN you get the longer push from the front block. Most people only notice the push from the front foot, but the rear foot is what actually gets everything started. This is why you should solidly load *both* feet into the blocks. The rear foot should not be loosey-goosey, but really solidly grounded on the block.

Actually, research has shown that you're better off NOT "listening for the gun"--but rather focusing on the movement you're going to make (some people like to focus on the movement of the elbow, but different things work for different people). If you're focused on a movement, then any loud stimulus will set you off (and a good starter won't charge you if someone coughs or clicks a camera), and your reaction time will be better than if you're listening for a "bang."

thank you for this clip.. I'm coaching my 11 yr old daughter and found this video to be a great tool to aide me in getting some basic starting block form across to her. It helped a great deal given that she related to a female instructor. Thanks again!

Just a tip. You need greater arm drive out of the blocks. That will get ur stide out further. U need to aggressively launch that arm that goes forward into the air

for advanced athletes, both legs are used. when first teaching block technique, coaches often cue the front leg

hi i have a question, my reaction time and power is very good and my top speed is very good but i dont think my acceleration is that good plus in football someone elbowed me in the color bone and i dont know if it is broken or not dont think so or else i wouldnt be able to move my arm, i also got used to the pain so i can do almost anything but will that slow me down?

your actually suppose to use both legs in the blocks. the back leg is the first leg to react because she is pushing off her front leg to take that first step forward out of the blocks. use the front leg to push and the back leg to step out. Good Luck !

What is easier? Attempting a vertical jump with a 50 lb weight vest on or off? This is the concept behind putting weight on the finger tips. By reliving your legs of the burden of your weight you give them an easier time pushing off the blocks. Of course you want to load them to some extent but you don't want them supporting your full weight at the start of the race.

Standing up this fast may not be ideal for a 100m sprint, but it's fine for hurdles because you need to be at the height of your sprint before you read the first hurdle.

@mistereverything Finishing strong depends on how good your train your body to endure such extremes. MY fasstest time in the 100m is a 10.71 and my drive phase is only 15m.

You're first step was much too short. U can see this by the distance but also how from the front angle u quickly snap the front leg down. The aggressive arm drive and full- triple extension out of the blocks is needed. U want to PUSH out not STEP out

@iH3ROz You sprint 11.84 without any experience: you don't have the right technique, your start is slow? Yeah, then you should definitely go to an athletics club. Then you are able to win some serious contests. But serious, 13 year and 11.84 sec? That is extreme fast for a 13 year old person...

I definitely disagree with some of this information being given. If you hold your drive phase for 20m and by 30m you are in "full flow" how do you expect to finish strong in 100m. These directions may be good for the 60m but in the 100m dash you'll need a longer drive phase because its a longer race and the body can only stay at its top end speed for a relatively short period of time.
