I think Wemby's skill that has gone most underrated is his sense of balance combined to how aware he is of the exact position of his *gigantic goddamn body* in space and on the court. He always seems to know exactly where "all of him" is relative to the ball, the basket, and other players. His movement and self-perception (proprioception if you want to get fancy) is mind-boggling at times. You can see it on a few of the plays in this video, like this dunk at 16:20 and obviously the insane no-look block at 3:00. This kind of physical self-awareness is often what's lacking in massive physical players. The bigger guys tend to look like they're sort of bumbling around trying to keep their body in people's way without really understanding the dynamics of it. But Wemby is so *fluid* and versatile with his wingspan and movement. That allows him to be even deadlier as a lob option, he will not only reach impossible balls but handle them well in the air. It also gives him those unguardable layups going reverse or shoot the ball *behind the defender*, and he already starts a lot of post moves without needing eyes on the basket which makes him so much harder to defend. No one who is that tall should have that fine command of their physical space. Like he doesn't just change the geometry of the court, he is *aware of the geometry he creates*. Also goes a long way to explain why he's so much better creating his own shot rather than catch-and-shooting, because his teammates aren't used to passing in rythm to a guy with so much limbs going on. And what's even more scary? That projects him as an absolutely deadly passer, in case opposing defenses didn't have enough problems already.

what got me excited is that all his weakness is all a rookie mistake. The amount of TO he has in games, his tendency to bite on fake, sometimes too eager to do everything on his own, forcing bad shots, etc. y'know the kind of mistakes that you can fix by just going into training session in the off-season. And with the amount of former Spurs players that he could asked to trained with, heck even Gobert probably grinning ear to ear if Wemby asked him to share some of his wisdom, Wemby could be very very good come next season. @Anthonydu016306 ай бұрын
He is 230 right now, and the best weight for him would probably be like 250-260 max so he keep his agility, speed and mobility.. 250 or 260 isn’t a lot for a 7’4 guy, that’s Lebron, Giannis, AD or young Gobert weight, Gobert is probably around 270 right now, so i think in the 2nd part of his career when Wemby will be 30+ he will put on some weight just like Gobert, AD, Duncan ect did, and he will become a 2nd offensive option, or 1B like AD with the Lakers, or Duncan after 2007, but they are/were still monster rim protector/defender so even old Duncan had a huge impact, in fact Duncan should have 3 or 4 FMVP, Kawhi wasn’t better than him in 2013, same for TP in 2007… Being an elite rim protector is so valuable so Wemby will always be valuable even if he average 15ppg, the kid is so versatile he could be a GOAT role player at the end of his career, like a Brook Lopez on steroids

I was a big fan of wemby coming into the draft and thought he was gonna be great defensively, however I assumed that he would struggle with foul trouble like most young shot blockers, NOPE. If you compare his fouls per 100 to some of the other great shot blockers and defenders that have come into the NBA, he is one of the most disciplined and foul averse shot blockers we have ever seen at such a young age. Here are some of the great defenders in NBA history and their Blocks and Fouls (per100) in their rookie seasons. JJJ 2.7 blks 7.2 fouls Draymond 1.2 blks 7.6 fouls Ben Wallace 2.9 blks 7.1 fouls Gobert 5.0 blks 6.9 fouls Embiid 4.7 blks 6.9 fouls Tyson Chandler 3.5 blks 6.8 fouls Marcus Camby 3.6 blks 6.0 fouls Joakim Noah 2.2 blks 5.8 fouls Marc Gasol 1.9 blks 5.6 fouls Hakeem 3.5 blks 5.5 fouls Mourning 4.9 blks 5.2 fouls Antony Davis 3.3 blks 4.6 fouls Robinson 5.2 blks 4.2 fouls Dwight 2.6 blks 4.4 fouls Garnett 2.9 blks 4.2 fouls Wemby is at 5.7 blks and 3.4 fouls per 100. He blocks more shots then anyone here and does it on less fouls then anyone here. Of all the people I looked at for this the only person I saw with less fouls per 100 was Evan Mobley with 3.1 in his rookie year, but he's actually regressed in that area, he was at 4 per 100 last year and 4.4 this year.

One thing I'd like to point out is how many times people call for fouls when getting blocked by Wemby. They've become so comfortable with being able to get free shots off while trying to draw fouls that when they try to play like that, they get stuffed and cause contact off their own accord which leaves them on the floor.

If Victor Wembanyama doesn’t win DPOY then I’m going to start thinking the NBA is actually rigged when it comes to awards and picks because he should definitely win it, the only reason I feel like you could say he shouldn’t is because quite a few players have gotten there career high in points against the spurs this year like Joel Embiid, Alperen Sengun, and Jalen Brunson to name a few but that shouldn’t matter because there’s no denying the impact he has defensively when he is on the court, I don’t feel like there’s anybody in the league who thinks it’s going to be a for sure bucket in the paint when he’s guarding them
