Inbound Sales
Inbound sales happen when a prospect learns about a product, service, or company through some form of marketing and initiates a conversation with the company's sales team. Sales roles that receive inbound leads include sales development, business development, and account executives. The success of an inbound salesperson is highly dependent on how qualified the inbound leads are.
Outbound Sales
Outbound sales - when a seller initiates a dialogue with a potential customer. A company will typically have sales and business development reps reach out to a prospect with cold email, cold calling, and LinkedIn messages.
Should You Do Inbound or Outbound Sales
The answer to this question depends on your goal and what skills you're trying to develop. If you want to learn how to turn total strangers into paying customers, outbound sales may be for you. If you're going to wait for inbound leads to come to you, inbound may be the answer.

Inbound sales taught me a lot about outbound I would argue. The most important thing I learned with inbound sales is that every single call is legitimate. It helped me become much more professional with outbound.

Totally agree. That is why for total beginner, I would personally think doing inbound SDR role, then doing outbound BDR role, than go to AE would be a easier natural progression. Than the other way around.

I totally agree with Patrick that outbound skill is more valuable than inbound, but from a different reason. Some Tech-Sales companies may have marketing that generate inbound calls or leads for AE(sales person) to close. But for those that don't, you would be screwed if you didn't know how to do outbound. 5:25 I would personally think doing inbound SDR role, then doing outbound BDR role, than go to AE would be a easier natural progression. I have been doing both since past 3 years but didn't knew that they are known as Inbound and outbound sales. These terms helps a lot in Interviews and while training a team. Thanks for the great lesson.

It’s important to get your prospect on the phone to sell your precut or service. Most people won’t buy an expensive product just from email.
