@6:55, the runner who led off for Wilson is walking very gingerly. Looks like shin splints. I had them all through high school but not much in college. She walks and runs very out-toed so that is the likely cause. I hope she got some lengthy rest and ice treatments after the meet. I feel that pain.

Chances are they thought about their strategy going in. They knew that last leg was the weakest leg so they decided to front-load all the talent and give a huge cushion in the hopes that the anchor leg could sustain it. If she had to be used in the relay, she should have been third leg. She doesn't appear to be strong enough to be the lead leg and get them out of trouble nor did she appear to be good enough to separate from the crowd as a second leg.

That is astonishing to me. It's almost as if the anchor for them isn't a runner at all and they grabbed anyone who was available that day because she was SLOOOWWW. Like she looked like she was taking a leisurely jog out there. If I was the coach I would definitely be having words about effort because I sure as heck didn't see it. She must have accidentally wore her cement shoes. She isn't even out of breath at the end of the race. Feel sorry for the rest of the team.

As someone who doesnt know anything about running. Why is this the case? Is there some sort of psychological effect in running behind someone versus having a lead? My first assumption was that the order shouldn't/wouldn't change the times the athletes ran, but that's obviously wrong since so much planning/thought goes into who anchors and who starts.

The girl that caught her ran around a mid 53, which is impressive, but about 5 seconds slower than the fastest women are currently running their splits. Boling caught a kid who ran a high 47 split while he ran a 44.74 split. Which is less than 2 seconds slower than the best 4x4 split ever from Michael Johnson. This isn't so much a comeback as a battle of strategy.. Long Beach Wilson, with two of the top 400 runners in the state, loaded their best athletes in the front, which gave them the big lead. Takiya Cenci won the race to become State Champion a couple of hours earlier, by almost a second over Aujane Luckey from Wilson. Both are among the best in the country but Cenci is still that much better.(and now runs for USC). So this was best in the Nation against Wilson's #3 or #4 runner.
