No worries that you wouldn't know but a huge factor in this game is that Oregon's stadium, Autzen is one of the loudest in the US and Oregon has lost something like 1 game in the last 30. Something like that anyway. Oregon is tough to beat at home. (I'm from Oregon)

The thing is Ohio St did have a timeout on that last play. They were looking for a quick 10-15 yards in 4-5 seconds and then use the timeout, but instead got caught up in the moment and let the clock run out for a few extra yards instead of going down

I mean they had a timeout on the 28… they could have just ran a few times called timeout and kicked the fg. I was at the game.. loudest stadium Ive ever been in. Absolute banger of a game.

I'm pretty sure it was an onside kick. If they didn't convert it, then they still would've had decent field position since that previous personal foul penalty was enforced on the kickoff.

Lanning said it was a onside and if they missed the guy would have just been a squib kick

Not sure if you guys have seen the talk about the 12th man on the field penalty on Oregon near the end, but Dan Lanning essentially confirmed in a press conference that he intentionally put a 12th man on the field late right before the play so they could both better defend the pass, and let time drain off the clock in a scenario where if its incomplete they only get 5 yards. He was willing to give up 5 yards so the clock would go from 10 seconds to 6 seconds,, which forced Ohio st to call another play before trying a FG. Made such a difference that the NCAA is investigating whether they need to adjust the rules of the penalty. Incredible game
@joe_duck
@joe_duck 3 сағат бұрын
He didn’t technically confirm that in the presser then also said he won’t say either way on the Dan Patrick show. On the rewatch of the game after I got home from the game he looks kinda pissed about the penalty on the sideline. So idk if he’s taking credit for something or what.

Oregon intentionally had 12 men on the field after the timeout to prevent a completion and exchange 5 yards for 4 seconds. The NCAA closed that loophole about an hour ago.

I'm a season duck football ticket holder since 2007. And this is the best game I have ever been to! It also set a new attendance record for Autzen Stadium, a little over 60,000, which isn't much, but it was very loud.
@Infiltrate.and.Betray
@Infiltrate.and.Betray Сағат бұрын
The code limit seating capacity for Autzen stadium is 54,000, yet for the Ohio State game they jammed 60,129 in there-which means the fire department essentially crossed its fingers and looked the other way for this one. When the fans came over the railing for that postgame hugfest with the players and coaches, security quickly realized they couldn't do anything about it.

Not sure which Oregon-Michigan St game you watched, but Oregon went up 31-0. Michigan St didn't even score until the last few minutes of garbage time.
@Infiltrate.and.Betray
@Infiltrate.and.Betray Сағат бұрын
Yeah, he obviously didn't actually watch the game. He likely just breezed through a highlight clip and then looked at the final score. Oregon's domination of Michigan State was almost identical to Ohio State's the week prior, in terms of how long it took them to essentially clinch victory. Both teams beat MSU worse than the score indicated, more in line with 45-point margins of victory if you project out the competitive portions of the game and subtract garbage time.

Oregon's coach said the onside kick was something they practice. The penalty from the touchdown let them kick off from the 50 so they could line drive it right at the guy and create a live ball. The player who got kicked out for spitting will face internal discipline that is up to the coach. He might miss the game this coming Friday night against Purdue.
@Infiltrate.and.Betray
@Infiltrate.and.Betray Сағат бұрын
Just to be clear, kickoffs from the 50-yard-line should ALWAYS be onside kicks, preferably squib kicks of some sort-even in college but especially in the pros (due to touchback location). Think about it: A failed onside kick from the 50 results in the opposing offense starting its next drive somewhere between its own 35- and 40-yard-lines-not much worse than on a touchback. (The NFL touchback is at the 30-yard-line for the 2024 seasons, and I wouldn't be surprised if the league eventually ups it to the originally desired 35, due to touchback rates still being far too high.) Touchback yardage being so generous, even at the NCAA's 25-yard-line location, minimizes the downside of a 50-yard-line onside kick. Potentially manufacturing a turnover with only a minor risk cost makes this a no-brainer. Drives me crazy when coaches send their kickers out to the 50 to blast the goddamn thing into the stands. Good to see Lanning understands this common-sense concept. Also, you can take to the bank Traeshon Holden won't be playing at Purdue. Lanning and Holden have both handled the incident beautifully so far. They both just need to finish the job: Lanning by suspending the player for one game and Holden by being a better role model for the younger players.

@9:30 That was intentional. They kicked the ball at the Ohio State player as hard as they could, so it bounced off of him which made it a live ball and fair play for recovery. This is the kind of trick that a team can only really pull off once over several seasons. Absolute balls of steel to call for it and amazing that they pulled it off.

@2:47 YUP! Should have been stopped for review and was a turnover for Oregon. I can say that at the time it felt absolutely gut-wrenching as a Oregon fan. Felt like our chance to take the offensive advantage away from Ohio State had been stolen.
@Cornan1980

@24:20 - Others have said, but this was on purpose. The timeout coupled with the 12 men on the field penalty ate 4 seconds of clock because of the way the rule worked. This meant when Ohio State ended up scrambling and sliding, there were 4 less seconds on the clock than they thought there were. Amazing trickery by Oregon but completely legal. The NCAA closed the loophole today (10/16/24) so it can't be done again. Amazing level of study by the Oregon coaching staff.

Oregon’s coach (Dan Lanning) did confirm that kickoff was intentional. After the 15 yard penalty on the TD, they moved up and kicked off from the 50, so worst case is that if it missed him, it worked as a squib kick. Then also, should look into the intentional 12 men on the field on the 2nd to last play, which bled 4 seconds. NCAA literally changed the rule already to close that loophole 😂

The kick that Oregon recovered was a designed play. Either it would hit an OSU player or it would have squibbed down the field quite a way. Also, Lanning deliberately put 12 guys on the field in order to run the clock down (10 sec to 6), which ended up being the difference in the game. The NCAA stepped in onTuesday after the game and changed the rule so that that can not be done again (now it is the same as the NFL).

Ohio State didn't know after the offensive pass interference the clock would run, lost time there and lost 4 seconds when Oregon intentionally put on a 12th man to cause an incomplete. NCAA just today closed the loophole.

Like with most other teams - when you have a new Headcoach and other related staff members ; your first yerar is gonna be the learnning year - for Kalen Deboer as Alabama's new headcoach he has a lot of extra " Pressure " as the coach to follow Nick Saban, Kalen DeBoer did take the University of Washington Huskies to the National championship game in only 2 years and almost won it. I don't doubt he will develope into the coach at Alabama as he did with the Huskies. Speaking of the Huskies Jed Fisch from the University of Arizona Wildcats is also going through that learning year with the Huskies. So far the Huskies have played better then they were expected they woul. In all rights though if not for their self sabotage the Huskie could be 6-1 - do i even dare to say 7-0. Thanks for the good video reaction to the Ducks vs Buckeyes.
