I have always kept a stack of large disposable plastic-coated paper plates in my garage just for such a project. They provide a clean, dry, portable place to put small parts.

99% through install... but I don't have any spring tension on my actuator arm??? I tried to tell from your video if I was supposed to. But I couldn't tell. I know you used vice grips to apply counter pressure to the actuator to remove the end of the clutch cable, as did I. And I'm assuming that since I had spring tension in the actuator arm then, I should probably have it now. It didn't seem like the Throw Out (rack gear) moved much upon disassembly/reassembly... so I don't think I lost a spring or anything. But it does seem to just be sitting in place fairly loose... not sure what I'm missing.

Ngl, I'm glad you didn't have ball ends! They're NOT for breaking bolts, they're to make spinning bolts easier. Breaking bolts with ball ends is how you round them off; that, and hammering in your Allen keys that won't go in square 🥴

Just installed mine. Thank you for the guide. I noticed something weird and I wonder if is the same for you. If you accelerate hard (especially in 6th) the engine is revving up higher than the clutch is transmitting it, it will ramp up the RPM higher, like when the clutch is engaged, then gradually will catch up. I wonder if I need to tighten it more...
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching Жыл бұрын
Yeah, may need to be adjusted a bit more. Mine would do that as it went out of adjustment or if I had been flogging it all day and it was hot. Contact Rekluse for advice, they’re great to work with.

Looking at putting one in the wife's scout. How does it work at lower speeds in first gear? Looking to help her out a bit with low speed maneuvering so that she doesn't have to feather the clutch.
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching 6 жыл бұрын
Its a lot like a Scooter. You ride the brakes harder and keep the RPMs high enough to get the clutch to start engaging. I find it to be way easier in stop and go traffic.

When the same folks who complain about holding in the clutch at lights also love to rev their motor at lights, i can see what kinda problems are going to happen with a clutch like this.

Thanks for posting the video. I have an Octane that shifts extremely smooth (2nd through 6th) without the use of the clutch lever. How does your Scout clutchless shift with the Rekluse RadiusX?
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching 6 жыл бұрын
I still use the clutch lever to shift, as recommended by Rekluse. If you’re able to shift the stock clutch without using it, you’d be able to do that with the Rekluse. It’s hard on the gears and I’d rather not have to tear into the engine to replace them if they break, so I’m careful. 😊
@mikemiller774

One question about operating this clutch. What happens when you do following: riding in 3rd gear, clutch in for a few seconds (so motor drops revs), release clutch. So this means what clutch will be not engaged because of low rpm in previous steps made it like you're stopped? So add more throttle and it will engage? will that be smooth?
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching 3 жыл бұрын
Modern fuel injection. It keeps the RPMs up around 1500 when the bike is in motion, which is above the engagement RPM. You’d never know it had an auto clutch after the initial take off from a stop.

How is the clutch performing after 2 and a half years? I've been reading that Rekluse Auto Clutches have been burning out not long after install.
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching 4 жыл бұрын
Working like a champ. During the break in of the clutch, you really have to stay on top of the adjustment procedures. Took me like 1,000 miles before it broke in, but I haven’t had to adjust it since. I have tons of miles on that clutch. No problems.

Hmmm. are the clutches really that stiff on the Scouts? I've test ridden a couple and really dont recall that. Is it not possible to replace the clutch springs with something lighter? I've done that on other bikes in the past.

Hey man! how is it going? listen, I'm in the process of buying a bike, I've always been a harley guy but you know disappointment after disappointment and I'm just sicking tired of the moco, no wonder they are losing (us) their base loyal supporters, so anyways I'm looking for a fast cruiser I mean no more bloody slouches harley for me; in your most honest opinion, would the scout be that cruiser to get to 120 mph efortlessly? Your response will be greatly appreciated. Alessandro.
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching 3 жыл бұрын
Think of the Scout like a very powerful Sportster. Sure, you might be able to hold 120mph, but it’s not the right bike for the job. Check out the Indian Challenger. It’s like a very large Scout. That bike could totally cruise at 120 all day long.

How long was your break in time? And were you making physical adjustments throughout? If so, were they adjustments to the cable or the the plates? Thanks
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching 6 жыл бұрын
I’d say it took almost 1,000 miles. Probably due to the synthetic oil these bikes run. Too slick. But it did break in. And I made adjustments about once every 100 miles during that period. Cable adjustments. It got a lot better after I replaced the failing stock clutch cable with the Barnett cable.

So I’ve been thinking of getting this product for my Scout. I use mine for drag racing and this would be a great cheating advantage off the line. I’d like to know, how well does the power hook up to the rear wheel? 700 bucks is a lot of money if it doesn’t work out for racing. Maybe you can respond back. Thanks.
@1ManWrenching
@1ManWrenching 6 жыл бұрын
I think it’d be fine, but I’d recommend calling Rekluse and speaking with their engineers. I know I had a very long break in process before it was hooking reliably.

Harley clutch levers are hellashas also, I don't care to hold them in any longer than have to. I really hope they clutch lever etc isn't that hard to hold in as I have arthritis that hits my left hand hard ever so often.

It took a longer time than I expected to fully break in. Like 1,000 miles. Might be due to running synthetic oil. During that break in I had to adjust the preload gap constantly. Like halfway through a 1,000 mile ride constantly. I also had some trouble with the clutch slipping in higher gears at WOT during break in. But that when away after 1,000 or so miles. Seems to hold reliably now. Since then it’s been excellent. Virtually never need to adjust it anymore. I still need to put in the higher RPM springs, and if you’re running the stock idle RPM you MUST put those in. But yeah, loving this thing. There are times when I use the clutch like normal and forget I have an auto clutch. And there are times where I’m in traffic or waiting at a light that I am sooooo glad I have the auto mode as an option.

Just had to find some new bolts for me as well. I used stainless steel a4 (slightly stronger than stock) 316 marine grade bolts. I found the cheapest here: www.boltdepot.com/Metric_socket_cap_Stainless_steel_316_(A-4).aspx I used the indian replacement part site to find the thread/length then ordered from boltdepot. good luck
