I am an INFJ desperately trying to understand an INFP co-worker, thank you for this insightful video. I've been working with him for just over a year and the way our shifts are structured we work very closely for the first couple hours together. We work under an ESTP boss with Narcissistic traits. The INFP co-worker is so creative, smart, and articulate but he can't seem to catch on to the "flow" of the operation. We do virtually the same thing everyday but with multiple minor variances. These multiple (minor) details can be the difference between failure and success. The INFP is continually disillusioned with the spontaneous Te and Se of our Boss. The Boss continually berates him. He has asked my advice but doesn't seem to believe me. I've told him to understand the process better and improve his skills, now the boss asks me what we should do. The INFP seems so unsure of himself? It would be nice if we could work from home or be independently wealthy, I would love either, but at the end of the day we're working for someone else. The greatest virtue might be being component at what you do and improving everyday on your skills?

Yes, I relate with everything you said. It´s all causing strong inner tension and when I was working in such envoirement I had to remind myself often to find good reasons for doing this job as well as to do enough creative work in my leisuretime. I had to counterbalance a lot with painting in my freetime to release this tension and find energy to show up at work on the next day. Only problem with this was, that once I was painting, I was completely in the flow and since work + passion + sleep doesn´t fit well in a 24hr-day I often got too less sleep and/or didn´t finish paintings. I was able to keep my recent job as a leader of an important part of the company for 6 years since the company had a big social compontent and I was happy to at least do something good for society with this stressfull work. Eventually one of my chief-bosses changed the operational concepts of the company and we had to do more work with less people, I got into a big argument with him and was gradually burning out since the work got less and less human-friendly. He put me down in a position with boring, repetetative work because of my 'disobedience' and I fell into depression since I was tilting against windmills at him (He was either a sociopath or hopefully just a very stubborn version of an ISTJ but the head of my departement). So I lost complete interest and energy for the job and got fired. Finally it was a blessing within the curse. I was, for about one year after that, not able to do anything, completely burned out and depressive. But! This opened my eyes. I didn´t want to sell myself anylonger and I didn´t want to lose all energy for others who just use me as a gear in a machine. I learned to refocus myself due to this. I did inventory, learned to remember what my values are, what my abilities and goals are and what makes me happy. Finally reinvented my whole life. I learned to know myself much better than before and have sworn to myself to never work for a big company again or relie on anyone. This gave me so much freedom. I am not doing anything for others anymore if I don´t see a high moral value in it. I do my own stuff and am about to start my own business. The authorities are definitely a big problem, especially if they are not presenting good reasons for their obstructions/imposts or even worse are morally corrupt. It´s anyway hard to follow for an INFP, but if it´s even counterproductive for the big picture, INFPs should consider to either change it or not parcitipate in this anylonger since it might cause unhealthy outcomes. Stay individual INFPs and appreciate your uniqueness. ;) - You are opening the eyes of the people with your unusual behaviour and might for sure attract people who are against you because of this but as well you create a lot of curiosity and change in the world when you do and present new stuff.

I resonate to all of this. I am not happy that most INFPs struggle with life but this makes me realize that it may also because the system mostly do not work for people with INFP tendency. If only this is more noticeable maybe a company would be able to be more humane. I remember I was told I got job in a company not a charity institution, and that hurt me alot

INFP here!!! I decided to be a nurse coz how spontaneous it can be! Before studying nurse I was studying ICT and by just studying that for a year! I visualized my future on sitting in some sort of company and dealing with routines and repetition things kinda was suffocating lol I am happy I decided to chance my career before I get disappointed! I have also thought of how good I won’t be with stuffs that has to do with organizing stuffs, making plans or projects! These stuffs gives me endless mind restlessness So it makes sense when one can’t adjust or having troubles with things like that So far with my clinical internship programs, I feel satisfied with actually helping people out and making them feel better with simple nursing skills, even small stuffs like making sure they are comfortable! That’s all I need coz I know I am happy in the end! Nothing is for sure 100% and problem can arise tho Thank you for making this video 😆

Great video, and very accurate. I've worked for a large education company for almost 16 years. There were definitely highs and lows. But after having tested as INFP on two different MBTI tests, soooo many things makes sense now. Whenever I was in an INFP-safe role, roles where there were not any meetings, when I could work from home, and rarely communicating with those I report to, life can be very pleasant if in this kind of role at a company, in terms of dealing with authority, since it's largely absent. lol. But for the last year, I've been in a VERY non-ideal INFP role where I am in 5-10 meetings per week, several different groups I report to, doing a lot of work with data, managing budgets, and more; it's a total INFP nightmare. I am planning my escape as soon as possible, I literally can't take it anymore. Hustling on my side hustle like there's no tomorrow. Believe me. But learning about INFP and our ideal roles have brought things into focus so much. I wish I would have taken this test 20 years ago! Oh well. Looking forward to the rest of your INFP corner videos, I completely related to this one. I find that non-INFP people making MBTI videos seem to be a little off the mark here and there with INFP's. Takes an INFP to know an INFP I guess!

INFP 4w5 here. I left my first job due to extreme routine and boringness. I left my second job due to wanting to pursue higher studies and also wanted to slow down physically, but I liked the work environment and job. I left my 3rd job because of the mental and physical stress I was under. The workplace was so weird -- on the outside they had all these great sounding humanistic ideals but in practice there was no guidance or structure shown to me and I was berated for being slow at learning on the job. I also had an ENFJ sit next to me and constantly scold me for doing things wrong and being unwilling to open up or do things her way. She dropped all this advice I didn't want to listen to, she wasn't my supervisor. In my free time I'd sit and read a book or browse my phone and she'd tell me off. It was exhausting being around her and some other similar colleagues and the internal personal politics was too much. That job paid well but was so exhausting I quit all of a sudden and took a 7 month break. I'm about to start a new in from Monday onwards which is one third of the payscale but fewer hours and more creativity and a smaller team (a start-up NGO) so hopefully no one gets in my grill and they value my contribution. Not being valued and being constantly micromanaged and nagged is very jarring for INFPs

Oh yes I can relate..especially to authority and awkwardness - I'm just too real and can't find the right affect. As far as "company fit" and "company culture" there has been a lot written about how those ideas are ways to keep people out of workplaces and positions, for any reason at all..ethnicity, socioeconomic background, gender, etc. I believe that if you are doing your job and being a team player as far as your actions, there should be room for individuality. Many companies disagree, but that doesn't mean they have a good reason to.

I put in my 30 years in a soul sucking job. #1 Authority. I got along great for almost three years, then someone lied and got me into trouble. I went to the Union and got out of trouble but the grudge and harassment lasted forever. The Union officers appreciated my abilities and judgement and encouraged me to run for office. I did and was reelected 6 or 7 times when I decided to let others take over the fight. INFP's don't like conflict, but being a working class hero appealed to my idealism (#4). #2 Routine and Boredom. For the first 15 years I was a musician. Then I became a dad and could no longer afford the time to practice and be my ideal kind of musician. So I went back to the visual arts. I have a BFA in painting. I daydreamed. I worked out my lines in my head and sang when no one could hear me. Later, I worked out details of a historic project I've been illustrating. #3. Authenticity vs.Fitting In. I got along great in those first 3 years. They accepted me then, so they had to pretend to, for the next 27. #4 Idealism and Disillusionment. As I got more and more disillusioned with my job, I got more involved in my ideal of working for working people through the Union. #5. Intolerance of bad Te. Bosses say "just do your job". Curmudgeons say "It all pays the same". I think it's a real tragedy that so many of us have apathy forced upon us. I wanted to care and I tried, but I wasn't allowed to.

I know that everyone can’t just be themselves 24/7 because lots of people wouldn’t have jobs if they behaved 100% themselves (like how they are outside of a professional setting) all of the time. And it totally makes sense in that aspect and also in a ways of keeping things more neutral/standardized if conflict were to occur, but having to follow certain workplace norms or protocols that seem plain stupid has me inwardly cringing. And feeling like you can’t do anything to correct it so an “ok, I’ll do it that way, screw it” attitude starts to develop and workplace apathy sets in. Also, acting in a certain manner socially has always been a struggle for me. I think I’ve finally become an acceptable amount of awkward midway into my 20’s and can be myself more without being totally nerve-wracked about trying to fit in that I seem like a total weirdo. I’ve found that the environment is very important for me on how comfortable I feel opening myself up more. I feel the energy and how people respond to me and it is a big factor for me and my comfort level.

Very insightful Love the bad TE comment - this is exactly the way i see it. I think we almost see the authority structures as bad TE. I loathe conflict but conforming to workplace norms is equally loathed. I figure if the work is done well why is it a concern if I’m wearing shorts in a corporate office.

What is your job title Calypso? I am an accountant for a major corporation and now have moved onto government sector. I'm also an INFP, i have similar struggles, but as an INFP, I'm very perceptive, so I understand all 16 personality types perspectives and approaches. ISTJs do have a leg up doing accounting, so what I did was to understand their values, reasoning, and benefits for what they're naturally good at. This brought me to the point where I had to give up being an INFP for the sake of work optimization.

INFPs are great financial consultants, but since I don't have enough experience, I can't be that just yet, and I don't have a choice but to rough it out, I'm malleable because I'm very perceptive, I accept change, and one must change accordingly to their environment is what maturity is about. I'd embraced it.

Great to have you back! I relate to a few of these, but intp so its maybe a little easier to play the game a bit (your company can be as unethical as it wants). Agree on stupid interview questions though. No, im probably not going to fit into your workplace 'culture', but i'll do the job with professionalism and (probably) not screw everything up. Don't you have enough social butterflies already yipping, gossiping and backstabbing each other for status already? Why not hire someone who just does the work you're paying them for? Naturally that's running through my mind, but my face betrays me, puts on a big smile, the sunniest of eyes, and vomits out (to my prospective supermarket supervisor) 'of course, to be honest, I actually prefer working with other people. If anything, i do my best work in small teams...' Also, request for more intp stuff. We (I) thoroughly enjoy hearing about ourselves (me).

I’m an ENTP and most people say that we are extremely charming but I’m just wondering why people think this what makes us ENTP so irresistible 🤔🤔🤔
@Lemon.Girl146 жыл бұрын
Le'Andre Vang I have a theory: Both ENTPs and ENFPs are widely perceived as charming. Both are Ne doms. So ENTPs function stack is Ne-Ti-Fe-Si; this natural preference could make ENTPs adept at both creative problem solving and deep thinking (almost philosophical if you will). They can exhibit a lot of charisma and come across as confident (Ne-Fe) which can be attractive. Many ENTPs have an excellent sense of humor due to rapid processing capabilities (Ne-Ti). Accompanied with their low Si it can make them appear unpredictable which may intrigue others. Not intentionally, but the only people I ever dated before I settled down with my INTP happened to be ENTPs. I hope that made some sense! 😅 Take care.

I am an INFP follower and usually loves your videos. But I haven't even finished the 3rd minute and I feel that I have to say thatx this kind of attitude destructive and is what makes people look down to MBTI. You basically saying that INFPs, or at least you can't function in a workplace because of INFPs traits. To me that dosen't make any sense. And I am heading to a career change. I understand that like everyone you could face difficulties and being etc, maybe a positive way to process the situation is how MBTl make us aware what some struggles might be and and what are the solutions. And I truly believe MBTI can be beneficial in this case. The whole thing with INFPs cant work is so negative and gets a thumb down from me.

I think she's saying what most of us introverted feelers know instinctively, that personal values and goals mean more to us than chasing a larger, more vague target for a company. She's done what most NFs end up doing: quit something they don't believe in and try to make it on their own (or switch to easier working environments). There are some people for whom job status, title and authority are of primary importance but we are not those people and it doesn't take much to convince us that we would rather spend our time on personal projects if we can.
