A shame, being that there was a lot of work put into the place... It's something else to see how things costing millions of dollars can just be tossed aside to rot so easily these days...

Wow! This brings back so many memories. I worked at this park from 6 months before it opened until the closing! I was the Production manager for all live entertainment as well as the stage manager at the amphitheater and man do I have some stories and great memories! Thanks for this video.

Jacob, did you ever visit Hard Rock/Freestyle park when it was open?

I went there when it was freestyle music park. The ticket prices were extremely cheap at the time, so it was a decent deal, to spend a few hours walking around, riding the few roller coasters consistently with hardly a wait line.

It's weird how the park has strict trespassing rules even though all the rides and some of the buildings are gone, it just looks like the park is completely abandoned with no one caring. The inside of the park is cool, I've only seen the front of the park by some others who made videos of the outside of the park. Another thing, its pretty lucky for you that the rain had stopped so you can go inside the park.

When this Park first opened up... a girl that I was dating at the time we drove up for spring break from Atlanta. We got 4 free passes from one of those timeshare gimmicky seminars in Myrtle Beach. We were absolutely floored that they was hardly anybody in this park. Everything was so cool about this place. The Led Zeppelin ride was awesome! It's an absolute shame that this park failed. It's rumored that a lot of locals boycotted the business because they served alcohol at the park on Sundays. What a shame

I also went only once when it was opened and there could have been tumbleweeds...and this was fourth of july weekend. I think they were charging disney/universal prices for half the attractions/theming and locals and most tourists to MB just can't afford that.

Hey question on the back side there was a palette that led to the top of one of the buildings it was the same building with the ticket booth. Did you move it? Or is there security during the day? Me and a friend went in Tuesday night and the palette was up and we went again last night and it was down. We were kinda freaked out someone was in there in such s short period of time. Have you tried getting in to the mall connected?
@MrMyrtle
@MrMyrtle 8 жыл бұрын
The property has 24 hour security that pretty much runs laps around the property. There is a good chance they moved it. We were not granted access to the mall buildings. I also wouldn't recommend going in without permission.
@noahburchette3659
@noahburchette3659 8 жыл бұрын
Now how did you get permission?
@MrMyrtle
@MrMyrtle 8 жыл бұрын
There's a local film maker with Red Jacket Films making a documentary on the park. See the link in the description. There is a trailer for the documentary that shows more of the park, which ill be getting to in future videos. He was granted permission by the property owner to film inside and I was lucky enough to tag along.

So sad that people feel that they must destroy places like this ...it could be saved !
@benchattin
@benchattin 3 жыл бұрын
I went there yesterday and it looks like they've completely given up on protecting the place. They may as well have a huge sign at the entrance welcoming vandals and thieves because the place is absolutely destroyed. Every wall space within reach is covered in graffiti ten times over, all windows violently smashed in, unhinged doors, and some buildings have even been caught on fire. The overgrowth is insane; many of the paths and areas seen accessible in MBV's videos may as well be uncharted territory as they're impossible to enter because the foliage is so thick. The mercantile interior as seen relatively preserved in this video has a good 3-4 inches of standing water in the center now. The part with the interior dark ride at the abandoned mall has recently been broken into and made quick work of by vandals and copper thieves. I don't see why they don't level the place already, it's suffered enough.

Why didn't the city buy it. They could hade made it it into some open air shopping district and leased out the stores. Turn the rest into parkland. What a waste!

What it comes down to is this ........... Someone said this Theme Park idea would work in Myrtle Beach , then someone with Multi millions bought their idea , then Lost all their Multi Millions ! Then whats even more incredibly stupid , someone else with Multi Millions bought this Idea a second time , renamed it , then they lost all their Multi Millions ! What a waste of money ! But I bet the person who originally came up with the idea of this theme park didn't have any money invested and is sitting somewhere with plenty of money !

Yeah people never thought that it would be an issue but not everyone supports the name hardrock...ironically because its not hardrap or hardcountry...seriously..this industrial machine hit a serious barrier when it became the subject of this appeal to reason that it..not the patron...was discriminating..there are even hardrock cafes in the south where the majority of the employe are african american and they play rap...not because that's what thier head office is done but because its been taken over..and no one will go there...unless of course you're of race appropriate...why this was an issue..no one really knows...theres obviously no discriminating as far as who can make rock music or like awesome food...but apparently this was also matched with rock bands who didn't eat meat but you'll hear a little less about that and more that these bands spurned on black bands who also played rock or punk..which again also were vegan and STILL wouldnt support a rock based industry link...so it made it to hamburgers like poop is brown and so is hamburgers and so is skin so youre a french tyrant, a non-vegan, and toxic crusader and maybe even brown skinned! Its not a real and sober enough issue to even protect the original discriminators because again...rock is anyone's game...the key became this restaurant and anythinh associated with it turned to shit...unless you were a signed artist you couldnt even token refer to this restaurant or corporation...legit cities like austin new york etc could hold it for a while but it still got the same slam on it...only a real tight local scene could hold it and it would STILL be discriminated against...it would be income based discrimination at that point...locations like New Orleans would see success but again black artists and locals just didnt have anything for it...and again age would be thrown in...dont bother saying your a rock legion if you're under 40 in 1994...youre a know nothing kid...and they want to show you that YOU will be smoking dope and begging for change when they close the hardrock and you wont ever lock in a job even as a dishwasher. So they really were deep into it. It just wasn't getting attention because it wasnt popularized that coffee tea and thee was the silent partner of snuffing popculture...and that tyranny was alive...but..they still dont out that.
