But think about how much rent that would cost, I would kind of rather the UK give less money to a poor country than give more money to a rich country. Kenya could use it more than the Aussies. I first went in 1981 with 2 PARA, it is said Goose Green was won at Archers Post. A dream exercise for me, being brought up on Tarzan and Cowboy in Africa TV and wildlife shows - an amazing times. I returned after the Falkland for a month holiday. I have been back 45 times since, I have a 9-bedroom house there and two other plots of land, I married a Kenyan lady and my kid was born there, mostly brought up in UK though. I did 5 GRAND PRIX exercises, First 2 were great, others not so good as battalion Commanders seem to lose control of what they could and could not do. The first trip, Mpala Farm, jungle in Katthendini, Game reserves for Adventurous Training, R&R in Mombasa and the Final Exercise in Archers Post. Now it seems the school of Infantry run it all or some other festering organization. Gone are the tented camps and barracks built. A completely different experience now and I doubt if it could ever match the old format. I just got back after a 9-month holiday. I always visit Nanyuki for old times sake. Best soldiering experience ever

@PaddyInf

Yes they do. There is usually at least one unit on each exercise that does some work for the locals, such as sourcing and giving shoes to school kids, repairing local infrastructure or doing medical work. Up until a few years ago there was a regular ex called ASKARI SERPENT which did mass vaccinations, but this stopped as they couldn't get the required 80% uptake from the locals for it to be effective.

Robert Medd the animals will run to an unsuitable place in an environment they hate and as a result they will refuse to give birth or mate, do you really know the animal psyche?...we've seen it happen , they are really territorial and they loathe the other"animal" on two legs with low self esteem , always seeking to sit on anothers head by militarizing!

The bases has been there for 70 years, and before that there was a war going on, I'd have thought they'd have settled somewhere else by now if they didn't like it. I know animals are territorial, but I highly doubt none of them have refused to mate for almost a century due to there being European soldiers based there.

+Damir Pryce i fought a battle for 2 years against my father, my society, my culture but failed for a reason that's not even just. they say british muslims don't feel this is their country, rather than joining British army more and more female are joining ISIS its not they don't want to its because after a long battle they get rejected over a reason that can't be justified. it hurts when the people whom you once tell to change your thoughts and be open minded as this is where we belong.. today they ask you really does the country feel the same about you as you feel about them. those who rejected you for no reason you wanted to fight for them. the pride i once felt being a British Muslim is breaking. im scared i might lose it.

JOHN MURIUKI Sometimes you go out of your barracks to train. In addition, in order to grow your economy sometimes you have to negatively harm your environment. The only way you can go about counteracting this environmental damage is by choosing not to develop and that you are fine with a poor living standard.

I am not he, nor master, nor lord, No crown to wear, no cross to bear in stations. I am not he, nor shall be, warlord of nations. These heroes have run before me, Now dead upon the flesh piles, see? Waiting for their promised resurrection, there is none. Nothing but the marker, crown or cross, in stone upon these graves Promise of the ribbon was all it took, Where only the strap would leave it's mark upon these slaves. What flag to thrust into this flesh Rag, bandage, mop in their flowing death. Taken aside, they were pointed a way, for god, queen and country, Now in silence they lie. They ran beside these masters, children of sorrow, As slaves to that trilogy they had no future. They believed in democracy, freedom of speech, Yet dead on the flesh piles I hear no breath, I hear no hope, no whisper of faith From those who have died for some others' privilege. Out from your palaces, princes and queens, Out from your churches, you clergy, you christs, I'll neither live nor die for your dreams. I'll make no subscription to your paradise.

I hope that while British government is training their troops here in Kenya, they should impart the same skills and provide equipment for Kenyans troops as well besides providing additional economically beneficial resources for our country. British should not just use us and use our land for their own benefit.

@Ben Connor British troops are murdering our people. I wrote this comment before the revelation that British soldier(s) killed a woman and dumped her body in a septic tank. With this new knowledge, I do not want British soldiers on our Kenyan soil anymore. They do not pay us to Kill us. We can never exchange even a single life for even billions of Euros.

@Ben Connor That case is the one that the British killer himself confessed to his colleague. There are many cases of disappearances in Nanyuki and can be linkable to presence of British soldiers. These British soldiers also recently started a fire that consumed 12000 acres and killed at least 5 elephants at a nature conservative in Nanyuki. For the group of British soldiers that started the fire, six of them tested positive for cocaine use. The thing is that these soldiers are starting to become a burden to our country.

British soldiers have been helping to train the Kenyan Special Forces in BATUK. The same Kenyan SF who fight Al-Shabab in Somalia and keep Kenyan people safe from jihadist threats. We’re not the only ones who use the training area. The Kenyan military benefits greatly from the presence of British soldiers.

@@Mister_Kourkoutas But do you agree that your UK BATUK colleagues are using coccaine? Do you agree that they set in fire thousands of acres and killed wildlife including elephants (and brag about it on social media?) Do you agree that they killed a woman and dumped her body in a sewer system (I hear she was still alive when they dumped the body on the septic tank according to postmoterm report. So she died a long and painful death)? Yes we need help to fight terrorists, burt we did not sign up for these pure evil things by your troops.
