I’ve enjoyed this Iraq series more than anything else on KZbin. Doug’s empathy fills the screen, and his connection with Iraqi children -- through the simple exchange of names and smiles -- is really special. The contrast between physical devastation, economic hardship, and bright smiles and openness is truly arresting. This series has completely changed my perception of Iraq: I never expected to see so much joy amid devastation, and never expected an American to receive such a generous welcome. Doug is a fine ambassador, not only for his country but for humanity too.

I spent a lot of time all over Iraq while in the military but Mosul always held a special place in my heart. It makes me sad and somewhat angry to see the destruction to this beautiful city. The people there were always kind and generous even in the face of adversity. I hope someday to be able to visit to see old friends I made when I was there.

The US overthrew the old government without a plan to replace it instead backing a brutal Shia Iraqi government in an escalating civil war. ISIS was a reaction to Sunni marginalization over 10 years following the 2003 invasion. Foreign invasions caused all this destruction.

@@pakhazman ISIS was made by the US, Sunnis have nothing to do with it, ISIS even killed thousends of Sunnis because they refused to join it.
