Inspiring Career Change: Ex-Police Chief's Goat Dairy Success (Split Creek Farm)

Sandra has found sobriety in a herd of dairy goats. She worked as a police officer at the US Capital until her struggle with alcoholism led her to picking herself up at a small dairy farm in the mountains of South Carolina. She is now a co-owner at Split Creek Farm and tends to an ever growing to do list. With her co-owner partner, Jessica, they have earned the title of Best Cheese in the World! Sandra’s passion and dedication to not only the farm but to her goats can be seen easily as we walk through the fields and talk about how the farm operates, unique innovations they have created, and how they are educating the public about farming and food.

Good for you for letting them retire there. I always feel if they earn their keep while they can we do owe them

They give more butter fat in late lactation simply because the milk decreases in volume. As far as extended lactations go, the longer they are in milk, the higher the SCC.

Oh that’s interesting. I believe they do continuous testing to make sure SCC is still within a good range.
