Installing Electric Power Steering (MR-S) on the Bridgeport FD RX-7

It's been great getting back to work on the Bridgeported FD RX-7! In today's episode, we install something I'm very excited about, a Toyota MR-S Electric-Hydro Power Steering Pump. This is probably my favorite mod to date (besides the motor, of course).

Damn, I forget how cool your FD is. That thing is perfect with those wheels and spoiler. Really great mod and coverage, I've always wondered how to set up one of those mr2 power steering pumps, I've heard they're popular swap applications. Great video as usual my man!

Ha! This bring backs memories! I had a car exactly like that and unfortunately i got into an accident my grandmother was in the passenger seat she hit her head on the dash board and her head ended up in my crotch area and yeah im pretty sure you can guess the rest my guy! Anyways great vid!

Thanks man! If you're running the oem system, it's not picky at all. You can use something basic - i've used Valvoline Synthetic in the past.

Have you had any issues long term of this pump failing or acting weird due to being overheated? or does it seem to basically ignore engine bay heat

I haven't had any long term issues like that - but then again this car isn't really putting it to the best test as it's not a daily driver for me. I do have the very same pump installed on another car (my S4 project), and it has been holding up well on that car as well.

How does the car "feel" with a partially electronic system steering?

I love how it feels. I don't think you'd know the difference if you didn't know (OEM vs this.) Seems like a very naturally assisted steering system. I would say at low speeds maybe the assist isn't as great as the OEM system. But during normal driving the assist feels great - not too heavy or light.
