I used a piece of wire to fish out the old plugs. Think Easter egg dipper, but smaller loop. Worked well.

Saw a trick later… just unscrew the spark plugs completely then just stick the coil pack in there. The rubber boot goes over the plug and you can pull it out with ease

Is it a way you can tell what particular Coil needs to be changed?
@MereMortalsAttempt Жыл бұрын
With a scan tool like obd eleven you can scan a cylinder for misfires. If one of the cylinders is miss firing a bunch it’s a good idea to change the spark plug and coil… there are of course other reasons for misfires or rough idling but that would be the easy first steps.

Hello I have a question, it has to be the same brand of coil, I have three of duralast and I bought another one at auto part o'Reilly and it doesn't have a number on it, but it's for a 2014 vw jetta se gracias

I have a problem with my 2015 jetta Se tsi 1.8 L. I was driving this morning and suddenly the check engine light was blinking and the traction control and EPC lights both came on. Everything I’ve been able to find online points toward replacing the engine coils and spark plugs. I had the spark plugs replaced about 1.5 years ago at a vw dealership. Do you think replacing the engine coils would resolve this issue? If I try this should I also replace the spark plugs even though they were replaced somewhat recently? The car is just below 180k miles
@MereMortalsAttempt4 ай бұрын
@@nathanshewmaker8146 I would take it to an advance auto parts or Napa… see if they can scan your car for codes. From there you would have a better idea what’s going on. I wouldn’t start buying parts yet until you know a little bit more about the problem you’re facing.

@@MereMortalsAttempt Okay I went to Advance Auto Parts and was able to confirm that I have multiple cylinders misfiring without any other error codes. Since the spark plugs were replaced recently but not the ignition coils they recommended checking the current spark plugs to see if they are burnt at all but still replacing all the ignition coils. Does that sound like the right course of action to you? Thank you again for your help!

My ground wire broke do you know where I could find a replacement or how to fix it?
@MereMortalsAttempt3 жыл бұрын
Honestly you could likely fix it with some new wire, soldering, and heat shrink… all pretty standard electrical stuff you could get at Home Depot. A ground wire is not carrying an electrical charge / signal it’s just to protect things in case of a power surge. You would just need to find the proper gauge (thickness) of wire.. if you have a piece that’s broken off you can take it with you to the store. There are a million good electrical/soldering videos to give you the basics.

I would certainly check them. If you are driving a vw Jetta or golf with a tsi motor.. your two biggest items would be getting the timing chain serviced and carbon build up on the back of your intake valves and fuel injectors

Timing chain should get checked for sure. There are a couple great Jetta groups on Facebook that tell you what you would need to check it yourself… or at least give you a good idea where you should take it and how much the service should cost. If the timing chain goes the engine is done… usually want to get them checked a little after 100k miles
