I've never worked on any part of a car and just replaced my stock stage 1 intake yesterday. It was surprisingly easy so if you're like me and aren't very literate when it comes to engines and stuff it's a great way to sort of get in there and gain some confidence.

Some backpressure helps with scavenging, effective scavenging allows the cylinders to clear exhaust gasses out better,well designed intake and exhaust are tuned like a musical instrument

I always try to do modifications after the sensors. While the gains aren't nearly as high, it stays quite right and reliable. I have a borla exhaust and AEM intake. I do swap all my fluids out for synthetics from the transmission fluid to the oil pan and everything in between. Two strut bars and I call it a day

Airflow is important to a combustion engine, so why wouldn't it add more power if all the relevant variables coalesce and produce a beneficial and tangible result? I'm sure people have ran tests (dyno & driving experience) to see, hear and feel the differences in their vehicle. I recently changed my air filter to a K&N stock replacement filter, and there is definitely an improvement to throttle response and power, but it's a small gain. It was worth the money I paid, though.
