Before I bought my Integra Type S, I strongly considered the Camaro SS 1LE and CT4-V Blackwing as my dual purpose daily driver and track car. A month later, let's see if I bought the wrong car...

So both the Cadi and the 1LE will absolutely merc that Integra in any metric imaginable as the platform and power trains are in vastly superior ball parks but I appreciate you putting this review together. I feel your conclusions are biased and contradict anything well known auto reviews say but I get it, you bought what appeals to you. Thanks for the content.

Very biased. I have friends like him. They will praise anything Japanese/Asian, but anything else other than exotic, he will crap on. They always say "heavy and large" for domestic. He will find reasons to knock everything Domestic. The American car could be superior in every way and he will still find a reason to knock it. I mean, look at his cars and what he purchases. They all think the same. Bias.

Biased how? He says it very clearly. The SS 1LE is a hell of a car. Great value per performance but if you need more space the SS 1LE isn't the right car. Your next choice will be the Integra. Offers excellent performance, especially in the turns for a little more than the Camaro. You must pay more if you still want power similar to the Camaro plus more space.

@@backnu I actually think Zygrene is pretty objective. However, you do have a point. I grew up in Orange County California and the JDM dck riding is real. They all assume domestics are just heavy and can't handle no matter how many official laptimes you show them. They'll drool over a clapped out S2k, but see a Zr1 as another basic Vette. The term "JDM kid" exists for a reason.

@@kevintran963 he's okay. I've seen worse. It's one of those things that he is disconnected from reality. Everything to him needs to weigh about 3000-3200 lbs, but that's not realistic. Not in a car that makes real HP. He's used to these front wheel drive cars barely making 300 HP and less. When it comes to power, the brakes have to be upgraded, the clutches😕, axles, transmission. All of that adds weight. And he'd be quick to point out that Porsche and Ferraris are light weight, but they also use a lot of exotic materials, aluminum, and carbon, which would drastically increase the prices of normal cars like Mustangs to 100k+. And lets be real, line an S2000 or a Civic Type R beside a Mustang GT at a stoplight and tell me how many bus-lengths his beloved Hondas would be left behind. And I know he runs his car and track, but it's a momentum track - made for lighter cars and carrying speed. It's made for light cars. There's only really one curve where it's low speed. Everything else is momentum based. It's a farce if anything. He's a JDM and he will always be biased. There's no way around it.

This is the most biased and uninformed comparison I've seen. How come youre so obsessed with how "bad" the blackwing sounds but you dont mention the awful vacuum cleaner noise of the integra? I've always wanted a manual Camaro with better visibility and daily drivable. The CT4 BW was the perfect car for me and i bought it at MSRP no problem. Can't say the same about Honda dealerships as they are the worst to deal with in terms of markups and annoying sales managers. Refuse to pay 60k for a 4 banger integra (which you did not make any comments about the engine noise on that lol). Also I've driven both the SS and the CT4 and CT5 Blackwing versions and I don't see any issues with the noise of the V6 sounds absolutely great to me.

Between Honda and Acura I gave up with the silly games, like starting at 15K ADM so when you get it down to 4K they try to make it up on your trade, Honda. And that ugly economy car tablet screen on the Acura that sticks up all the way looks so tacky for a luxury car. When people are bringing up Honda reliability and saving maintenance money on $50k plus turbo charged sports cars with premium fuel they really are just reaching for validation. The Cadillac comes with a factory 6 year 70k mile drivetrain warranty on the Blackwing I really don't think it gets much better than that for these types of cars.

Camaro SS 1LE is the best one in my opinion. The CT4-V Blackwing is awesome and I want one to park next to my Regal, Camaro, & Sierra. Its just a bit expensive. The Integra is awesome and I love it more than the CTR. The ITS is very nice and compares well with 330i, Giulia, & G70. At $50,000 it strikes me as overpriced, especially when for the same money, I can buy a SS 1LE or used ATS-V and match M3/M4/Giulia QV performance.

They can not price these performance models to sell like hotcakes because they would have to pay fines to the EPA. Our government is ruining everything. By 2026ish, you will only be able to buy a mass produced ICEV with a lawnmower engine. Of course recent accelerated price inflation in general is a major factor.

I don't know if you saw the review but what I saw was a guy that loves the Camaro and the Blackwing but needs more space without breaking the bank. For that reason, he prefers the Integra. Great comparison video! What amazes me is that the SS 1LE is a 7 year old car and it still competes with cars above its weight class. If i had to choose, The SS 1LE fits the dual purpose category due to how well it is for the HP/Handling alone but the Blackwing/ITS just edges it out due to its practicality. The ITS reminds me of a widebody Civic Type R. If i had to choose between all three based on MSRP the ITS would be last because both GM cars are on the alpha platform which makes it hard to beat and offer better HP for value

6th gen 1le has the same gearing as all the other lt1 powered models (lt1, 1ss, 2ss, 1le). It's the best driving car for the dollar, it's been that way since new. It's sad to see the car suffer the same fate as the 4th gen f body did; it was killed off for slow sales despite being the best driving car in its class and per dollar. It's pretty hilarious, the 4th gen and 6th gen camaro reviews read almost exactly the same. Complaints about visibility, build quality and annoyances in daily driving (small trunk opening on 6th gen, huge doors on 4th gen...poor visibility on both)...but despite that, it's been the performance choice since 2016. Just like the 4th gen was since it debuted until it was killed. I grew up driving Hondas and Toyotas, I really wanted to like the type R and ITS. I had civics, crxs, del sols, s2ks, accord coupes and my personal favorite honda, a 4th gen prelude. I also have had every generation mr2, many supras, fx16s, alltracs....so I'm not against Japanese cars at all. With that being said, I am massively let down by the type R and ITS. For the price, they are nowhere near good enough. You can get a 240i for less...you can get a 1le for less...it's just not a compelling package. 320hp and fwd...what year is it? STIs and Evos were 30k and made 300hp with AWD 20 years ago. If you really love fwd, cobalt SS turbos made the same power and track performance in 2008. I just am not impressed with the performance for the money. The turn in and grip is amazing but it's at the limit of fwd. Imagine if the ITS had sh AWD.... I get it, it's more refined and practical. But again, if I wanted that, I could get a b58 BMW for the same money. Or hell I could buy a used Camaro AND a new civic to daily for the same price. Great comparison though, your videos are awesome to see back to back driving of cars enthusiasts actually compare. The mainstream auto media misses the mark and this is a valid and relevant comparison to true enthusiasts

Agree with you on all points. Also a diehard Honda fan (owned 9 honda/Acuras myself), and also agree that 20years after the EVO and STi first hit America, Honda is just finally catching up (but still no AWD)... and for how much??? Over twice the amount from the 4th gen RSX Type-S to the new 5th gen Int-S. No thanks. That's ridiculous. I'll just go buy a Cobalt SS, Mazdaspeed3, or Caliber SRT4, which had the same exact formula 10years prior to the CTR. The 1st gen Mazdaspeed3 is extremely reliable to boot. Had mine for 12years and still on stock turbo, stock engine, easy 300whp with just intake and wheels. With over 200k miles, only huge maintenance/repair costs have been AC compressor, clutch, the serpentine belt tensioner, and eats through tires easily being FWD and 300whp. I think $2k in repairs/maintenance in 12years, plus $3k in tires. Tires! Ouch! Expensive car! Lol! That's $250/yr in tires! Edit: I forgot Carbon cleaning has run me $7-8 every 5k miles, so about $300.

@@copperkeyracing6167 yeah it's sad, I've owned everything and my favorites were always hot Japanese compacts. The ms3 is awesome, besides the torque steer lol. But yes, all those vehicles performed just as well as the modern counterparts and didn't cost nearly as much. I think all the manufacturers know what we want and and like...they just reserve it for the high dollar cars. Take Honda for example, the civic SI has had 200hp since George Bush was in office. They give it the 1.5t because they know you really want at least a 2.0t. And if you're a Honda guy, you might just pay 50k for a car that performs like a 20 yo sport compact with fwd.

@@tommyistommy Even more pts I agree with. I tell people all the time, on the Civic Si. 2006 Civic Si, 200hp. 2024 Civic Si, 200hp. 2004 Mustang GT 260hp, 2024 Mustang GT 450hp. The RSX-S would compete head to head against the Mustang GT back in day, when 200hp fwd was really no different than 260whp rwd, since launching from a stop had no issues with low power. 600lbs less weight and 60hp less in the RSX-S put the two cars dead even stock or modded. Then the 300hp but heavier Mustang GT came out for 05, no problem, it got 250lbs heavier too, and the mod potential dropped. Stock vs stock, Mustang was faster, but full boltons, still competing with RSX, and the new 8th gen Si... 6 years later, 2011, it was game over, since Honda did not up the hp on the Civic Si, while the Mustang gained 112hp! and just 100lbs! Imports lost to the competition that very year, and continue to, to this very day. 13years later. The Civic Type-R should be at 400hp, and the integra Type-S should be where it's at at 320hp but about $15k less. Speaking of, and I forgot to mention before, the TLX AWD Type-S V6 twin turbo is just $1500 more than the Integra Type-S. Might as well buy the upgrade for just $1500 more. Lastly, did I mention, and I'm sure you know, that Miatas have always been considered slow in a straight line? Well, the current Civic Si is just as slow as the current Miata, both slow... the Miata has just kept up with the times, and got quicker, but the Si has not. Lets hope it's like 2005 all over again, and the civic si at 160hp (200hp today), and then the next year gets bumped to Integra/RSX Type-S power 200hp (320hp today)... and the Civic Type-R gets bumper to 400hp with AWD... but I seriously doubt that will happen. To me, Toyota is winning this game against Honda. 300hp, AWD, and $38k with dealer markup on the GR Corolla. Only chance I'd look back at Honda is if they made the changes I mentioned.
@tommyistommy
@tommyistommy Жыл бұрын
@@copperkeyracing6167 yeah I've stated a very similar argument many times. Actually a current Miata will SMOKE a Si in a straight line. It's a full second quicker in the 1/4, and it's a Miata! I had a 95 prelude h22a and it was definitely quicker than a 4.6 mustang. Very similar power to a rsx s and 8th gen. I completely agree that the 9th gen was the beginning of the end. Integrated exhaust manifold, strut suspension instead of double wishbones and the worst part- economy VTEC from a CRV instead of intake/exhaust VTEC. The GR Corolla is priced a lot better and it's OK in my eyes. It's not tempting enough to buy but I understand the appeal. The wrx is an even better value but it's a Subaru so it's going to have tons of issues with reliability and build quality. I think manufacturers have thrown in the towel on sport compacts unfortunately. The GR Corolla is cool and all but man compared to the Yaris it's pretty lame. And I hear that rear diff gets hot after a couple canyon runs or laps at the track. That being said, it's the only sport compact id buy!

You spent the test comparing the BW just to the 1LE in regards to its performance but hardly ever made reference to it vs the ITS. The BW isn't as raw a performance vehicle as the 1LE but it's certainly on another level in comparison to the ITS. You complained about the steering feel of the BW and the engine noise. Both are significantly better than the ITS. I've never heard anyone claim the BW's steering was numb. Short of Porsche, I think Cadillac has the best steering feel right now. And I don't understand the engine noise comment. It's not a snarling V8 but it's very good for a turbo 6. Either way, it's better than the exhaust sound of the ITS. You made a great choice in the ITS. It's a wonderful car. But you shouldn't have to diminish another car to prop yours. It's an odd approach to diminish the BW as a "less focused" sports sedan by comparing it only to the 1LE, and omitting how it feels compared to the ITS. A significant majority of people driving the ITS and the BW back to back are going to enjoy the BW more. Even on canyon drives, and especially at the track. It has a better engine, suspension, steering feel, chassis, sound and brakes. That's not a knock against the ITS. Again, it's a GREAT car. It's just odd you complain about aspects of the BW that are better than the ITS. To each his own. Still enjoyed the comparison.

I'm not sure why magazines complain about the CT4-V's "cheap" interior so much. Is it as nice as an Audi S4 or M3? No. But it still looks premium with great ergonomics and thoughtful high-end details. An example of a GREAT drivers car with a dreadful interior is the Toyota GR Corolla. That hideous interior would be enough to keep me from buying one. The CT4-V's interior wouldn't sway me away one bit.

We ended up with a CT4 BW and in large part it was the longitudinal engine "real sports car" feel that made the difference. We need backseat for the gremlins, so the camara/mustang/86 etc.. were ruled out. We were also replacing a GTI, and almost all the options were direct competitors with similar layouts. Pretty much all the current manuals are "hot" versions of C segment passenger cars in other words, and they all feel kind of same-y once you start hopping segments to look at other options. Except for the ct4/5 BW's and the M3/5 that is. There's literally nothing in-between that has a manual and a back seat, and both of us straight up preferred the feel of the Cadillac to the M3. Finding out that it would cost so much less definitely didn't hurt either. I don't hate transverse cars, my family whip is a sportwagen 4-mo manual that I love to death, but even with a great suspension, light rims and summer tires a fwd based car still shows it's "bic disposable lighter" roots when compared to other (more expensive to assemble) engine layouts.

On track you can most likely pretty quickly get used to the limited visibility, everyone is going in the same direction (hopefully lol) and there isn’t a lot of merging going on unless racing wheel to wheel, even then a little rubbin is just racin ;), but on the street driving in traffic the limited sight will always suck. I’ve always wanted to own a Camaro, I’ve had friends with them, always fun and good on track, but I go for a cruise on the street and it’s instant “nope” for me. I have a 911 now, and I love the visibility in the car, but at a lower price for a daily I did look at the GR 86, and the good visibility in that car is a major pro to me. Likewise, the bad visibility in the Supra makes it a nope for me. I’d go with the GR 86 or Corolla any day, great cars to drive on the street.

I bought my RSX-S brand new over 22years ago, and still have it. The dealership experience was absolutely the worst I have EVER experienced. I almost walked away because of it, but I had been waiting for the 4th gen for about 5 years, so I went ahead. I will never go back, though. The post sale dealership experience was 10 times worse. What I know now, I would never do it again. Regardless, the problem with the integras from before and the integra now, is that the price of the top performance model (GSR or Type-S), was just 15% more than the base model, and compared to the Type-R they sacrificed handling, braking, exterior body enhacements, and extreme hp/torque (8% less power) with the tradeoff of a better interior, more comfortable ride, electronics, and a mandatory sunroof. The car was then 20% cheaper than Type-R, and you could always modify it up to the Type-R level of performance with Type-R parts. Today, it's backward. It's higher or equal performance than the Type-R, has more hp&torque, it's mandatory NO sunroof, costs 61% more than the base model, and costs 14% more than the Type-R. WAAAIIITTTT!!!! WHHAAATTTT!!! This is insane! The Type-R was already pushing the envelope for how much an FWD 4cyl performance car should cost, and now this pushed it higher!!! The Int-S is more than twice the cost of the 4th gen Type-S ($23,170new vs $50,800new). I have owned a total of 6 RSX-S (red, white, blue, silver, and 2 other reds), the original I bought I still own, and I have a turbo'ed one I still own also. I will never buy an Integra Type-S as it's too expensive for what you get, and I also believe the Type-R is too expensive for what you get (used mazdaspeed3s have the same exact recipe, 10years older, and go for 1/4th the price). At that price, it better be RWD, or AWD. GR Corolla has my vote, and it's $17k cheaper with AWD. I could buy a new GR Corolla and two used good condition RSX-Ss for the price of an Int-S.

I love my SS, but at some point I will need a replacement and drivers cars with manuals are disappearing. The Blackwing can be difficult to find at list price - at least last year all the dealers I spoke to wanted more. Exactly. The TLX Type-S is only $1600 more than the Integra Type-S (when you include markups). That makes absolutely no sense. Might as well pay a bit more for the better car with AWD and a twin turbo v6.

Granted this review was a year ago, but how is a $53k sports car only has 320hp, 310 tq, FWD, >5 sec to 60, and is considered better than a BW or 1LE. My '16 Focus RS has more power, AWD, and still worth the MSRP I paid for it in '16 ~$35k. Probably a lot more fun too. I wouldn't (personally) go for the Integra. Both the BW and 1LE are great cars depending on the type of driver. If I had to choose, I would choose a BW over the 1LE just because I prefer having a reasonable backseat and good visibility (through the windows). I live near Dallas, TX now and you have to be extremely aware of the other drivers here. They are terrible...and I'm from Chicago! Looking at getting a BW in the near future before they are gone forever.

The Camaro is just a tiny bit under 3700 lbs. CT4V is 200 more and CT5V is 500 lbs more. SS 1LE is the car to get, and can be modified w/ heads, cam and sus to keep up with a ZL1 1LE for $20k or so, no supercharger to deal with. I'm fine with stock power and got it for $39.5k brand new, great deal!

If resale and reliability matter at all to you, then the Integra is the best choice. If cheap trackable performance is the only goal, cost of consumables and unscheduled repairs matter not, then the Camaro is the best choice. I suppose if you want a manual RWD sedan the choices are few and far between and the Cadillac is probably going to be a cheap pickup on the slightly used market, just go ahead and lube up to prepare for repair costs.

I'm not going to shit on any of these cars, they're all amazing. But the Camaro is built like a tank from my experience and from what i've read. I think it will hold up for a long long time. The jury is out on high boost 4 or 6 cylinder motors. Maybe the Acura can endure track duty year after year with no issues, but if I had to bet my own money; the V8 will outlive the other 2.

Man, the Cadillac can't get a fair review anywhere LOL. So, you canyon carve compare the Blackwing with stock alignment vs. the Camaro with a track alignment and conclude that the Blackwing is 80-85% of the Camaro's performance. In other words, you stack the deck for the Camaro, then conclude that the Camaro is marginally better. How about this: in stock form, the Blackwing tied the Camaro 1Le in the lightning lap, they both hit 0-60 around the same time and both are low to mid 12's at ~117 mph in the quarter. The fact that the Caddy is ~250# heavier indicates that its 472 HP is mildly underrated, too. The difference in "Stock form" between the cars is negligible, even though the Caddy has 275's out back. It's hard to find an honest, unbiased car review. The magazines are even worse. BTW, I love both cars, owned a Z28, drove a 1Le and now own an ATSV.

IMO, There is no replacement for displacement, and there is no alternative to RWD. I have a K20C...its fine. Mine is tuned up to 25 PSI and 370lbft. But in FWD...its so traction limited and so limiting to drive. Its "shocking" that it puts any power down at all, but still its HALF the power to the wheels compared to the other two, so you are balancing it out. The BRZ/86 is 100hp away from decimating any car on the road, and if rumors are true and its getting the GR Corolla's 1.6 turbo, I don't think there will be anything as fun as that for the foreseeable future.

These are always extremely subjective. The chassis on the BW is second to none which is why a lot of track goers would opt for the BW over something like the new G80 M3. He kept comparing the CT4 to the Camaro. Is he not aware of the CT5 BW? I had all 3 of these cars as well as the M3 and the IS500 on my list of cars to buy and ended up going with the CT4 BW.
