One strategy to avoid evening snacks is to brush your teeth. I find that the taste of toothpaste makes eating less tempting and you don’t want to brush them twice.

Hello, Jennifer. I used to live for sugar. Candies, cookies, carbs, oh I’m so embarrassed for how bad I was. I have developed food allergies, pollen allergies, skin conditions, asthma, and the dreaded fibromyalgia. Since starting IF end of July 2021 I have lost 15 pounds and many inches. I was in XL dresses, now in M and they are comfortable, not tight. I am sleeping better, my brain fog is better, and most importantly my constant pain is 90% better. I don’t follow a “diet” either but I removed sugar. All sugar. I will have a corn tortilla or chips once in a while but try to stay away from breads. As you said there is no longer any craving for sugar of any kind, I just don’t want it, the Halloween candy was not a temptation at all. It is shocking to have lost that desire for sweets and I am so grateful for it. And yes skin is better, my hair and nails too. I break my fast at noon and try to have dinner finished by 6. Sometimes that goes to 7. And my desire for healthier foods has been increasing, it seems the longer I do it that desire has gotten stronger. Thank you for all your info and encouragement!

I wondered this too. It seemed like the cravings have been stronger while I am at my highest weight. After I get to my goal weight set point. It’s good to know these craving will lessen. I also experience a sore foot when I am up some weight. Due to inflammation I’m sure.

IF has dramatically reduced my cravings for junk food. I went from a “hot” eater to a “cool” eater as well. And I still get hungry in the mornings around 8 or 9 am, but then it passes and often times I’m no longer hungry when it’s time to break my fast at 11 or 12. A suggestion for you to maintain weight or even put back on a few pounds is to simply increase your portion size as they appear to be pretty small. You look great, and as long as you’re feeling great keep doing what you’re doing! ❤️😋

@@TheDailyConnoisseur You look really good, Jennifer! This is inspirational. I see a nutritionist, don’t do intermittent fasting technically but I am advised to try not to snack after dinner, so kind of intermittent I guess…I’ll say this your blood sugar can be impacted by eating healthier foods (fiber, protein etc) and this can curb your cravings for less healthy foods according to what I’ve read. I’m glad this program has worked out for you. Unrelated comment: have you read the poetry book lays in summer lands? You might like it, maybe even could be a part of your future chic assignments?

I started intermittent fasting on September 13th after seeing your results video. My best friend had been talking about it for a while, but your video made me take the plunge and try it for myself. As of today, I'm down 18.6 lbs and I expect a whoosh in the next couple of days based on my weight loss patterns. I've lost 2 inches all over my body and 5 inches off my hips! I'm actually wearing a pair of jeans today that I couldn't zip or button in September! I feel AMAZING! I have so much more energy, my mood is up, and I'm no longer so food obsessed. I struggled with insatiable cravings. They would plague my mind for days until I satisfied them. It was horrible. I hated living like that. Every other weight loss method I tried seemed like torture and I felt so deprived, so I inevitably went back to old habits every time. Not this time! I love eating this way, and I'm making a permanent change. For anyone wondering, I mostly do 18:6, but I mix in some 20:4 days and an occasional OMAD. Basically, once I hit 18 hours I decide if I feel good and want to keep going. If I'm feeling hungry, I'll break my fast at 18 hours and eat. I also know if I'm having a more calorically dense dinner, that OMAD is probably the way to go for that day. For exercise, I've been walking. I started with 1 mile a day. Then I added in a second 1 mile walk in the evening. Then I upped it to a 1.5 mile morning walk and a 1 mile evening walk. Now I do two 1.5 mile walks almost every day. I've been sick, so I just did what I could and listened to my body for the last couple of weeks, but I already got my 3 miles in today since I'm feeling better. Oh and my best friend is down 21 lbs as of today. She either does OMAD or a small lunch and dinner depending on the day, and her exercise is chasing after her 4 small children lol.

I don’t see any downside!! 😂 I love that you’ve gotten to a place where you decide what you’re eating without feeling you ‘have’ to because of cravings. I hate cravings!! I feel out of control and the thought of deciding without so much emotion, is exactly where I want to be. Its no wonder the Bible speaks of this as something we will all do. It’s a wise way to live ❤️ Thank you Jennifer!

Thanks Jennifer. Interesting! I started IF after your first video on the subject. I just asked my family if they were ok with a 1:30 start time for Thanksgiving. I also have lost my cravings. My nemesis was salt....mainly tortilla chips. It's so liberating to be free of that craving! I am 66 and lost 15 lbs. and am back down to my ideal weight that I carried in my 30s and my energy is through the roof! A bounty of blessings to be grateful for this Thanksgiving and I count you among my blessings.🙏

I have done intermittent fasting in the past and stopped. I’m just not as wired for regularity and consistency as you are Jennifer. I will testify though to the effects you mention. Also, I have lost 40# in the last year. I needed to and did it under a doctors guidance in a slow, steady, thoughtful way. Now that I’m at a level I want to maintain, I’ve been re-examining the tools that help and intermittent fasting rises to the top BECAUSE it is, for me, the very best key to unlock mindful eating. Thanks for the encouragement of your story. I’m thankful this popped up this morning!

Yes because with family and friends, it's hard to stop.eating at 5pm... I can only do it (physically and mentally) when i am alone, so mainky during the week days. Personally, I do eat quite a lote at meals when I know that I won't be able to eat again past 5pm, and hunger pangs surge at 8/9pm. The next day though I REALLY enjoy my breakfast. I also don't like eating in the evening as I am then not hungry for breakfast the next morning So yes great benefits of IF but I also can't be as structured and regulated as Jennifer is. I guess we just have to do it as we can and as we feel like it

I've been doing 16:8 since March and reduced my cookies, candies, chocolates = less sugar intake. I'm feeling better and I've lost 12 pounds in the first 3 months and kept it off. My addiction to chocolate is gone. That constant craving mind is quiet now. Two different people have told me my face looks thinner. I had inflammation in my face and stomach that are gone now. My skin on my face is smoother and healthier too. Before, all of the pores on my face were inflamed and when I touched the surface of my face it was bumpy. When I looked closely in a mirror it was bumps where my pores are. Now my face is so smooth and clear. There is a definite improvement of my skin so hearing you say this was similar to my experience. Thank you for your videos.

Hello Jennifer. I have been doing intermittent fasting since may this year when I turned 45. I have tried Keto before because of a perimenopausal weight gain that I was not used to. In a span of 3 years I went from 125 lbs to 160lbs. I did all the exercise available to me from walking to running even did half marathon to weightlifting just to combat the sudden weight gain. Keto worked for a while but I got tired of my food choices. Before I started the intermittent fasting I went low carb and still nothing happened. When I saw your 1 year update in the beginning of this year you inspired me to try it. So far I have lost 15lbs. But it fluctuates and I think I know what’s causing it. All your observations have been mine as well. I suffer if I over indulge in sweets or refined carbs. I’m still tweaking my eating schedule since I work nights. Thank you for the inspiration and keep the video updates coming. Have a wonderful rest of the week. ❤️

Your comments is my life right now. definitely is the late working. the coworker that don't put on any weight keep themselves accountable on how much they eat. for example, my friend only eats breakfast in the morning and the dinner at work, so basically two meals a day and maybe a piece of fruit before work and coffee.

Hi from England. I have been intermittent fasting for about 18 months (16/8) and have gone from 146 pounds down to 128, I would like to loose another 3/4 pounds but seem to have stuck at 128. I am 75 so there is no age barrier! I agree with everything that you have said, I hadn't given these points a thought until you mentioned them. I am quite fussy about eating healthy foods, more than in the past. I probably annoy my grandchildren with this! Thanks for doing these videos.

My favorite approach to eating has been French Women Don't Get Fat. It's such a wonderful book and sensible way of eating. IF can be good for some, but it can also lead to eating disorders. I do try not to have anything to eat after about 5:30pm, but if I'm hungry as soon as I get up at 6:15am I'll go ahead and eat.

I have had all of those "side effects" from intermittent fasting, except for the extended weight loss. After fasting a year, and losing 35 lbs, I was on cloud nine feeling better than ever. Then I became ill and have been placed on a treatment that causes issues with the thyroid. This has caused a weight gain of 20 lbs. I am devastated, but continue to remind myself that I only have two months more to go and then can hopefully get back on track. One observation that I have experienced, and have heard of others, that you did not mention is loss in foot size. I am now a size 7 instead of 7.5 to 8. It's crazy. I would recommend IF to anyone, and have!

I've been intermittent fasting for 3 years. I am 68. I haven't had a dramatic weight loss. But I was only about 10 lbs overweight according to what my BMI should be. I have been able to maintain my optimal BMI and LOVE this lifestyle because now I, like you, for the most part crave healthy food. I don't like to snack outside of my "window" at all. The best thing though is not having to deny myself desserts (within reason). I can't see myself ever going back to "random" eating.

Hi! I’ve been intermittent fasting for about 11 months. I started because my baby was turning one, and (unlike my first pregnancy) I had lost zero baby weight. Covid stress did not help the situation! So I began with an eight hour window and slowly moved to a five/six hour window. I immediately started feeling better (no more bloating!) but it took a while to start losing. I think because my hormones needed some work. But I’ve officially lost all the baby weight! About 15 pounds. I find the lifestyle very easy, once you adjust. No more emotional eating. Craving whole food. And yes, it’s hard to break your habit. I almost never do. It makes me feel bad.

Since insulin is the driving hormone that determines whether we use what we eat as energy or store it as fat, maybe you could try stoking your insulin a little more to prevent more weight loss? Perhaps if you broke your fast a little earlier in the day? I’ve heard Dr. Fung describe a 12/12 regimen as one that will maintain balance once you’ve lost all the weight you want to. Just a thought. Thanks again for your wonderful videos!

I agree, the 12/12 schedule keeps me at a maintenance weight. Though I see you are saying eating outside your window is not making you feel well. So maybe a slow adjustment to more eating hours/fed hours so you can up your calories.

Hi Jennifer! First off, I want to tell you how much I enjoy the entire Daily Connoisseur platform and all the information and insights you offer. I’ve listened to your books several times each and always tune into your YT channel for new videos. Please keep them coming! Anyway, I’m really enjoying following your experience with IF. I’ve dabbled off and on and am currently becoming more committed to it. The benefits and results speak for themselves; more appetite control/less preoccupation with eating, in general, fewer cravings, healthier palate, weight management, more focus and energy…the list goes on. In this video you noted seeing improvements in your skin and were wondering if this relates to IF. It absolutely does and it all comes down to something called autophagy, which is a highly important bodily function activated by a number of factors, a big one being IF. Before I bore you, I should probably mention I’m a holistic health counselor, and science and biology and anything health related has been my bread and butter since I was a little girl. I am constantly researching these topics and looking at new studies and research. Being 46 years old, I’m very interested in maintaining my health and feeling and looking my best all my life. This has led me to the topic of autophagy, which literally translates to “self-eating”, or the the amazing process our bodies use to clean up or “eat up” all the waste and damaged cells, etc. inside of us. This has a huge impact on how we age, both inside and outside; thus, your beautiful skin is a sure sign your body is performing autophagy amazingly well for you. This definitely correlates to your IF. I’m not even scratching the surface on the science here. I am so fascinated and I could talk forever about it, haha, but I have to recommend looking at the work of Naomi Whittel. She is a pioneer in the world of autophagy and shares it in the most applicable way. I highly recommend her book, Glow 15, as well as checking out podcasts and YT videos that have interviewed her. I believe you will find it all fascinating and I would be so interested to hear how you implement any of the ideas she offers. I’d love to compare notes in the future, as I’m incorporating some of the methods she recommends. Best to you! ~ Sarene

You're such an inspiration, Jennifer! I started doing the 10 hour method 12 weeks ago, and then 16:8 about 6 weeks ago, combined with the Keto diet. I have never been a fan of LCHF but I was recommended to try it out and it has been interesting. But now my body is signaling that it doesn't like it so much, too much fatty food for my stomach to handle. I look at your balanced way of dealing with your eating and think I will probably shift back to a more "normal" diet but keeping an eating window of 8-10 hours. I don't need more weightloss. And I don't want to always be making a fuss over what I eat. I have too many control issues and perfectionist trades as it is.

The "Hotel California" analogy was so inspired & apt! I agree. Once you get used to IF, & it does take time (consistency is the key with all things; try to not lose ground gained) there's no going back. Like you, my skin improved in my early 40s (when I stopped eating so much, tbh) and has steadily improved over the years. At 54, my skin looks better than it did at 34. More updates like this will be appreciated over here! TY for another great one.

I've been doing the 16:8 IF for about 6+ months and I've found many of the results you mentioned. Many times I forget to eat breakfast and it's lunchtime before I know it (which isn't good). But as you said I'm not even hungry. I too plateaued at the desired weight and now am even below my goal and have been told the same thing...don't lose any more weight. My skin looks much better as well. I had puffiness under my eyes and that has been eliminated and my skin just looks better. My best friend asked me what products I was using and I assumed that's what it was, but in hind sight i realize it's probably eating healthier. Again I agree 100% that I don't even desire junk food. My afternoon treat is some dark chocolate and a cup of tea, but even then 1 little square is enough. I really enjoy your posts. You remind me of a dear college friend who I've always admired.

Thank you, Jennifer for sharing these observations. I did IF 16/8 last year and lost weight, despite having hypothyroidism...I found it to be incredibly easy to do, even though it was slow progress. But then, life happened, I downsized my parents and myself and ate and ate and have gained almost all the weight...which, in of itself, is an observation about the potential impact of stopping IF completely! I intend to restart this weekend!

Great video. Thank you. I have lost 48 lbs since March 1 (8 mos). I never planned how many pounds I wanted to lose. I just let my body determine where it would be healthy and end up finally. I have experienced most of what you listed but I am still happy when another pound drops off. It’s definitely a lifestyle I want to maintain. Because I eat this way, my husband has started eating this way also and has lost 12 pounds without trying or watching what he eats. We both feel really good with the weight loss and encouraged that we will be living healthier lives. Funny, even when I proposed to my husband that he eats when he is hungry rather than waiting for me, he won’t do it. It has become that much of a habit for him. 😆

And fitting in clothes I haven’t fit in for years is wonderful!

I have lost about 10 pounds and I’m experiencing just what you said here. I usually couldn’t wait to have my latte as soon as I got up. You are BLESSED! When I saw last video of what you eat in a day on IF, I thought "Impossible!!" Not even keto ...and the portions, almost 5 times a.day...and DESSERT every day!!! No way!!!!! And now...you are losing weight?!! I am on keto Omad...lost 40 lbs...and then plateaued!!! Yes, I am.never hungry, I still love sugar but do not crave it. It does not taste the same for me. You must be the keto IF community idol or/and Drs' focus of joy and investigation! When I grow up I want to.be you! Never saw anybody eating so much and anything and still keeping or losing weight. My idol! Smart, beautiful, sweet, humble, refined, elegant, and now...the envy of all of us strugling to lose 1 pound a month, the one chic lady with the perfect metabolism!!! God blessed you ...and me...by finding you here!!! Keep it up! Will.suggest following Drs Fung, Pelz, Berg, Berry, Diet Dr , Thomas Delauer. All excellent to clarify any doubts. But what I have heard from these mega famous YTubers, all those symptoms are normal...or treatable. A big hug, THANKS and remember to THANK GOD all the time for He has blessed you!

I have more weight to lose but I'm grateful I've found something I can live with.... My doctor is also happy, now I'm working on adding an exercise program. Thanks for sharing your journey.

In addition to your skin, the sclera in your eyes is so white and sparkling! My question to you will be what are, if any, the changes in your digestion, and if that very significant weight loss has affected the health and the density of your hair? Furthermore, do you think that IF and the weight loss, having effectively cleansed your body, have also accelerated your metabolisam and thus your propensity for further weight loss?

Dear Jennifer, thank you for your honesty and candidness in sharing your story. I started intermittent fasting at the end of July. I thought it would be a good way to stop the reflux that I was experiencing during the night. Loosing weight would be a great thing too, but it originally wasn’t my primary goal. Now, several months later, I can say it’s made all the difference. If I’m tempted to eat after 6 pm, by snacking in front of the tv, the reflux returns and it’s not worth it. I try to eat in a 8 hr window and most days I can. I’ve lost 13 pounds so far and am so pleased with feeling better overall. Interestingly, my husband, who is not fasting, is getting really hungry at night and snacking quite a bit, as he eats an early supper with me. He just noticed this too. I suggested that perhaps he needs to increase his portion size at meals. He will try to do just that. Perhaps others have had a similar experience? Keep up the good work. Take care.

Thanks for sharing your observations so openly... I have done IF basically since the start of the pandemic... I didn't realize what I was actually doing until you started talking about it.... but since I am now full time working from home I don't "have" to have breakfast anymore at 7 am and with a later "eating" start to my day I don't really feel that hungry for lunch and with my husband also working from home permanently we have an early dinner together - with this I lost about 20 pounds.... my weight loss got interrupted when we came out of Lockdown and we started to go out more and have later meals (and more wine ...) - which my stomach also wasn't too happy about... We are back to stricter regulations again since the weekend (restaurants and non essential shops being closed after 7PM) so I am happily falling back into my old/new routine...

So I do alternate day fast for autophagy. Losing 1.5 lbs a week. Clean fasting and all day I was not hangry or craving anything. I hope it becomes natural to me and I can keep a healthy lifestyle intermittent fasting. I love avocados, nuts, fish meat, veggies, yams, and potatoes fruit. I used to eat ice cream a lot, and gained more that 15 lbs since pandemic. But now I’m eating whole milk yogurt and kefir, and banana smoothies. Thanks I love your channel

Okay… possibly TMI I’ve dieted throughout my life starting at 14. Today I’m on day four of my first time doing OMAD. I have done IF before, but wasn’t able to stick with it. But something has happened to my mind and I’m sticking with this until my body regulates to where is supposed to be. I weigh (please don’t judge cause I’ll cry) 289.8 pounds. I started even higher. Over the last five years I’ve had several big evens from marriage to pregnancy and first time motherhood, pandemic, job changes and soon we’ll be moving into our new construction home after 14 months of planning and processing. I just stopped nursing after two and a half years and I’m ready. Trying not to cry as I write this. It’s bizarre, I just found you on KZbin yesterday but watching your journey has brought me comfort and confidence that this is the right direction for me. Sounds silly, but considering calculating calorie intake just to see how much your actually getting. And then figure out how much you burn. CICO for the most part still applies and chasing after four kids and keeping up with everything means you probably burn a lot of calories lol. Thank you!

Hi Jennifer, you are so right! Training our body to 'wait' for the next meal through fasting does bring weight loss and of course we are eating less of everything because of the time factor. I had reached a point where I felt that I was getting too thin and my energy dropped along with the weight. I then learned, that I needed 'more' food at each meal to give me strength and energy, like larger portions of protein from lean beef, turkey, eggs, nuts and dairy etc. larger portions of steamed vegetables and I added sourdough bread too! (and always organic, non genetically engineered and hormone free, because of my lymph node disease LAMs.) My doctor said "Just think, if you suddenly got sick with anything, you can not afford to loose any weight, that could be dangerous too"... Getting healthy 'fat' in my diet is always from these natural foods, not something I needed to consciously ramp up, what I needed was more 'pure food' no empty calories. My weight leveled out and my energy came back!!! After age 40, (clean Organic) protein is SUPER important and you probably know this, but adding regular strength training is a MUST! Ask older women or just observe, but after 40ish, women begin to 'lean out and loose muscle mass. And You are so right, after eating less and loosing the weight, I never feel good after eating processed restaurant food, so I don't. I crave clean food too! Now Partly due to covid ... but we have not eaten anything from a restaurant in two years, and I cook every meal at home, every day, and have for 16 years. And I can honestly say I have not had a commercial chocolate bar or drive through FAT Fast food since 1999!!! Once I made a decision to cancel 'junk' from my diet, I have never looked back and wouldn't even consider 'that' type of food as a real food anyway. If its processed, it's been messed with! Regarding your eczema, I understand that tomatoes, strawberries and 'stress' are Big contributors to that condition... So if you eat some of those foods, watch if it flares up??? You are so lovely and sharing your journey is greatly appreciated! You Take Care, Please!! Love & Prayers Raven

Interesting observations! I do a 14:10 routine cause I can't eat dinner before 6 or 7pm. I am slowly losing weight and bulk and am happy with the journey cause it is not difficult and I don't feel like I am missing out. I am getting the same way with breakfast...I could make it later and later but it is a time my husband and I enjoy together, so I don't want to. I think once you are on this journey, even if you can eat whatever you like, you tend to make better choices because you don't want to just put any old thing down the hatch!!!

Excellent job! As for the continued weight loss, it’s simply not enough calories. Even the top intermittent fasting researchers like Krista Varady say it all boils down to calories in/out, nothing magical happens with the timing of eating. It just helps you eat less food 🙂 and that’s great, whatever works to help us keep those calories down! Thanks for the video.

I started 3 months ago and have lost around 10 lbs. However, I do closer to a 12:12 than a 16:8. And a lot of it boils down to avoiding snacks between meals (except for teatime of course!). It has definitely become a habit and the norm for me, no longer difficult to stick to at all. I really like the additional structure it gives to my days as well. I no longer struggle to have dinner ready on time or get to bed at a decent hour. To me that's as beneficial as the weight loss. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope I can lose as much weight as you have.

I’ve been intermittent fasting (16/8) for 7 weeks. No weight loss, my cravings for junk food has not really diminished, and my skin seems worse. I also wonder if it’s contributing to menstrual irregularity (although that started a bit before I started IF), but I’m going to have to stop IF to see if my cycles normalize again. Very disappointing! But I’m just sharing in case anyone has had a similar experience, so they don’t feel alone. A friend who is a health coach recently shared that IF really doesn’t work for everyone… Many of the studies on intermittent fasting were done on men! Happy for you Jennifer, that it has been a very positive experience for you!

With Jennifer's first video on IF last November, I jumped right in and started doing it. (Whoever actually asks their doctor?:)) Anyway, I did NOT have a good result at all. It threw my hormones off really badly...messed up my cycle, and made me feel quite unhinged. I had to completely stop. But I was so disappointed. I really wanted it to work. So once I felt steady and stable again, I just made sure I was doing 12 and 12, which is pretty natural for me anyway. And over the course of the year I have slowly and carefully (paying very close attention to myself) been able to increase my fasting window and have been totally fine. I just had to do it slowly. And I have found that for myself 16:8 isn't quite right. I do 15:9. For me, going longer than 15 hours puts my body into too much of a stressful response. But 15 hours fasting is totally fine. And it's crazy how tweaking it just a little can make the difference between this working really well for you, or being a negative thing for your body.

I love this! I can confirm quite of few of your observations. Yes to the skin! I am doing IF for the second time (first time was for my wedding three years ago) and I noticed the same thing even just a few weeks in. I have older skin (I'm 49 ) so I think it is really beneficial. My skin is smoother and softer. I also have stopped the huge cravings. etc. I have found however that I really struggle to get in that last meal. I am rarely hungry after I break my fast (I do a bit of 17:7 just because it works for me. Sometimes it turns into 18:6 though. I only eat brunch, tea break and dinner) I know I really *need* to eat that last meal so I don't feel crappy the next day so I try to eat something light and healthy but basically, I don't get hungry anymore after I break my fast. I love IF! Listening to you talk about is really comforting, because even though the weight loss is steady it's quite slow and I feel like I might not get there (same weight and goal weight as you.) thanks so much for sharing your experiences, it really helps.

Thank you, for these videos and also the "What I eat in a Day" with recipe videos. More of all of those, please =) I have been tinkering with many different WOE including the latest one of Carnivore. I gave it a go for 6 weeks but could not stop cheating with a carb many times a week. I also have discovered I do not love meat. I enjoy maybe 4 ounces or a bit more but I need a carb with it. So I decided to revisit these videos of yours and this time it has really resonated with me. I do not want anything to eat first thing in the morning so I am great waiting till 9AM. I cannot eat anything 3 hours before bed because I get terrible reflux so again 5PM for supper will work perfectly. I love the idea of Tea time and today I will go in the "fancy" aisle at our grocery store and find a nice one to try. I also like to bake so I will be making an applesauce cake or muffins today and freezing portions to have with tea. This feels very freeing. Like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I weigh 174 at 5'6" and have had a goal of 145 for over 3 years. Nothing has stuck. Today is the first time in all those years that I believe I can do this. It feels very freeing. Thank you. I will check in as I progress =) Lori

Jennifer, I have been doing IF for a few months. I haven’t had a dramatic weight loss probably because of my age I’m 70. I have however experienced some of the same things as you. I don’t want to eat when I get up I drink my water with acv. Thus past weekend we went to New Orleans to the Saint s game. So my eating was all over the place as we left early in the morning and I ate some oatmeal early. Dinner was very late for me 7:30 and we ate a the Chop House and the food is delicious but very rich. I had red fish fried in butter and a huge baked potato and garlic spinach. It was a special dinner to celebrate our daughter and her husband’s 4th wedding anniversary so we had the huge chocolate cake to share for dessert. Let me tell you I couldn’t sleep well that night. I’m back on schedule now, but I did gain 2 lbs.

I still have a lot of weight to lose, but what I have lost felt pretty effortless and I don’t feel like it’s hard to maintain. I also went from having cravings all.the.time and was always looking forward to my next meal, to not doing that anymore. The change has been so mentally freeing that even if I didn’t lose anymore weight I would be happy because of the mental/emotional freedom it has brought me.

I've been doing IF for at least a year and a half now and I've lost quite a bit of weight. I have cut down on carbs and no dairy, which has allowed me to continue losing weight but I am older and started with substantial amount of weight (173). I do the 16/8 IF also and find that I am not hungry at all when I wake up either. I do like my espresso with sugar but won't eat until an hour later. My sugar cravings have decreased to the point that I no longer feel the need to have it. I only have 2 meals a day with no snacks though, unless my portions at mealtime are very small. But I definitely have increased my protein intake.

My appetite is definitely decreased. And the food I do eat tastes better. The decrease in appetite makes sense because IF decreases insulin so dramatically. It did take some focused effort the first couple of weeks and if necessary, I would drink a small juice glass of milk in the afternoon. At first I did feel a bit hungry in the morning but I just enjoy my black coffee. I also felt fairly hungry around 3 or 4 but that went away after the first couple of weeks. I have list about 20 lbs so far in a few months without restricting what or how much I eat otherwise. My foods have changed because my preferences have changed.

I have suffered with insulin resistance for many years and after almost giving up I saw your video about your one year update and I started to look around KZbin and saw tons of videos on this topic. I have been doing this for about 1 month and went from 215lbs to 204lbs. Before this it was extremely difficult to see a change in the scale even after killing myself working out.I call Fasting a gift from 👆 God! Thank you for sharing great 😊

I've been doing IF fairly routinely since March now. Unfortunately, I have yet to lose a significant amount of weight even though I do have a fair bit to lose. That said, there have been so many other benefits! The biggest one has been my digestion. Ever since i had my first child, (she is 16 now) I have had contispation issues. The issues got better once I started probiotics and then better again once I started taking magnesium. Adding lemon water to my diet first thing in the mornings helped yet again, as did taking a TBS of olive oil a day. However, IF has done wonders beyond any of those other things! I do a eating window of about 10-6. Beyond that, I do have less cravings for junk though I think I still have more than you do. Another major bonus is that I no longer feel like I have low blood sugar if I don't eat regularly. It is wonderful! For example, if I'm gone all afternoon on some errand and all I have is a bottle of water, I'm just fine. It never used to be that way. I am often very hungry around 9 but I get over it and wait until 10. I couldn't imagine going back to the way I used to feel! The only bonus now would be if I could just lose weight!

Before starting IF, I reduced my sugar, dairy, gluten and fat intake and lost 5 pounds. I continued with these reductions when I started IF and lost another 5. Because I do not have a gallbladder, I have to keep my fat intake low. The majority of my weight gain was from eating too much fatty foods. Are you eating more calories than you’re burning?

Hi Jennifer. Thank you for sharing. I have been IF FOR approx 6 weeks. I do feel better and am slowly losing, about 7 pounds so far. I am doing the 16/8 and eating all foods but cutting out sugar. Definitely I have noticed no hunger in morning. I am noticing a better sleep pattern, less bloating, and a boost in energy. After about 5 straight days, I noticed a huge decrease in my hunger/appetite, which I am struggling to get 3 meals in. Now, most days I have breakfast around 9:30 and have a combination of lunch/supper at around 3-4, sometimes later, and basically the kitchen is closed and so is my appetite. If I have time within my window, I will grab an apple or a small dish of cottage. cheese. If I’m having an off day, which now is rare, I like to sip on good bone broth as it is filling. I no longer have those drop in sugar feelings in my stomach. Most difficult is no cream in coffee - - oh don’t take my Java away, and I have convinced my brain that cream less is better than none ness, but I know I will get to it as you have indicated. I am a newbie to this and have already noticed these differences which encourages me to keep it up. Thanks for sharing your journey.

When I was younger I felt like I was forced to eat breakfast in the morning. I just wasn’t hungry and didn’t want it. Of course I will suffer later before lunch in school. And once I found out it’s completely normal to not feel hungry once you wake up it made so much sense.

Jennifer thanks for sharing! I have a similar story and have found when I target 1800-2000 calories/day I’m able to gain weight. Might be worth it to calculate how many calories you’re getting day to day.

I've been trying IF for about a year, in and out, i have quit a few times. With our Jewish holidays and Shabbat dinners, it's hard to keep it on schedule. I agree with the morning water. It's enough. I drink water and tea, which I don't mind plain, whereas coffee without oatmilk was making me sad. But I still get cravings for unhealthy stuff, i find it hard to get over, and it's weird cause before having kids i was a very healthy eater. Keep working on it!

Have you ever tried the "Keto Coffee?" You add in grassfed butter (like Kerrygold) and coconut oil. Then whir it up in the blender for a frothy delicous coffee. Add nut butters to your breakfast bowls, smoothies, or even add a pat of good butter to them. Autumn Bates also encourages lots of healthy fats and more protein. She has a video on how to figure out how much protein you should eat per your body weight. That might be helpful. Thanks for sharing the good and the bad with us. I'd also like to know what kind of exercise you are doing?
