Ni-mh batteries don't really have a memory effect. It's so little you can't even notice it. You only have to worry about the Ni-cad ones.

This helped me a bit. My father informed me of this effect when my headset was dying early. But I still have some questions. My father said that you let it deplete completely, charge it completely then from there on you don't deplete it completely only partially less and less each time you charge it. Is this true? Or should I be letting it deplete completely, then charge then use it to depletion and just repeat that?

If your headset is uses Lithium then there is no memory effect. Lithium gets is less damaged (less crystalizing) the less polarised it is (0% vs 100%). Keep the charge at around 50% for the least damage.

That's fine. Nickel cadmium batteries especially the AA and AAA are pretty cheap anyway.

Discharge it completely and recharge to full few times.

There is no such thing as memory effect in NiCd, NiMH and Lithium batteries. The capacity drops but the true reason is crystalline formation. Discharging a very battery fully is a bad practice.

The statement ; "it might take five minutes" was unnecessary. It would take less time with all the tennis balls in the gas tank. wouldn't it? Just stupid to suggest a 'time to fill'. Unnecessary.
