Steven Seagal clearly puts in time practicing and it seems like he is a genuine blues fan. Plus he has a self awareness of his voice and guitar skills and wasn't trying to do too much with either. I'm pleasantly surprised by Seagal the musician.

He's not sticking in one pentatonic box, he's got some dynamics, and he gets a nice tone out of just his thumb - a bit warmer than if he used a pick. I don't think I'd buy a CD, but if he were playing outside the local Chipotle, I'd stop and listen for a bit, and maybe even throw something into the tip jar.

Not that I'm a fan but his aikido is pretty good, the only reason people call it bs is because they don't understand what they are seeing. The over the top flipping they do isn't trying to imply that the techniques make them flip.. they roll with the moves because if you don't roll with a wrist lock you break your wrist. If you dont believe me jump on KZbin and learn a basic aikido wrist lock and then get your mate to do it to you hard and fast and don't roll with it see what happens.

This is by far the best one I've seen. He's actually playing around a little. The videos I saw previously was truly embarrassing and they were edited in with some interview where he talks about how he lives and breaths the blues, while being a llama and a holy man and whatnot.

My brother and I saw him at the Fillmore in San Francisco back in 2006 because we genuinely loved his older movies. We heard everyone else in line snickering that there just there to see him as a joke. But then, he and the band frickin' rocked that joint! My brother and I were sitting in the front row, and he kept giving us angry looks because were the only ones not dancing. That's just not something we do, but we enjoyed the hell out of it and got his autograph afterwards.

YES guitarist Trevor Rabin ate at Steven Segal's restaurant in L.A. When Steven came out to say hello, the talk turned to guitar. Trevor ended up giving Steven guitar lessons. In return, Steven allowed Trevor to score his film "The Glimmer Man." This led to a new career for Trevor. He has since scored dozens of films including: Armageddon, Remember the Titans and Snakes on a Plane! 🤭

It's a thing, playing music. When you do the basics, and you do that good, it's far better than just trying to be impressive. When it looks easy, you see skills. Don't be surprised when he kicks in four or eight bars of improvisations of his own. He's the type of player who could do that, but you never know, until you hear it. Yes, he is fun.

I've been to loads of blues sessions here in germany, some with very professional musicians, some with weekend warriors and most of them just with guys who want to have fun, play some good old blues tunes, havin' a burger and a few drinks. My bro wrote for a guitar mag in the 90s & 2000s. Segal approached him about doing an article in the magazine. I scoffed, but was surprised at how good a player he is. He is a testament to training and practice. Just play your guitar everyday and you WILL get better. Wax on/wax off. Respect.
