4* Squat, Deadlift, Bench, Overhead Press. Those lifts should be in all routines, seriously.
@peterpwn95588 жыл бұрын
John True. I do all of them and constantly recommend them to all my friends. As of late I found that the push press really helped me increase my poverty bench to a slightly less shitty bench of 264lbs/120kg. So I've mainly done push press with OHP as an acessory exercise, but I think that in the long run I'll probably go back to OHP as my main lift just for the raw strength it builds.
@JoaoKorreiaa8 жыл бұрын
PeterPwn! It's the best way to gain strength and build muscle, there's also some studies where it shows that doing 5 reps or 12 will net the same hypertrophy, that's pretty revolutionary. Doing machines and dumbbell exercises only will do nothing for someone that doesn't roid, compounds, dips, pullups and a few acessories is the way to go! I'd suggest switching to OHP as a main lift instead of acessory, it works all 3 heads of the shoulder and gives you raw power, pretty fun to OHP your girlfriend, girls get impressed and then sad when their boyfriends fail it haha
@peterpwn95588 жыл бұрын
John I know. Compounds are also a lot more fun to train. I have no idea how anybody can enjoy machine training in the long run. I'd have to worry about getting one before overhead pressing my girlfriend...^^

Hey Brett, you should consider lifting in a powerlifting meet. It will change your training, it has with me, because you're lifting for a an actual event. It's different then just training for health, looks, or strength. You also know for a fact that you hit your numbers in the hardest possible conditions: in a meet with certified judges. Just consider it, maybe even go to a meet to see what it's all about. I have a blast at my meets- I've done three. Powerlifting is great and you should deffinately try it. This channel is just a video log I use with my coach to go over form programming etc. I'm not any sort of personal training company or anything like that.

I've never read Starting Strength, though I've meant to. I'll likely order a copy pretty soon here. I agree with Mark that gyms, magazines, etc. are only meant to be profitable, not to make you fit. Is it me or is weight training (powerlifting, bodybuilding, oly lifting, strongman) becoming more and more popular as the days go by?
@kobzster0610 жыл бұрын
It has been getting popular the past few years. I'd say Crossfit has done the most to really boost the popularity of lifting weights. Before Crossfit, most Americans never heard of a snatch and clean and jerk. Nowadays it's common in the American vernacular. Even Rippetoe credits Crossfit for popularizing weightlifting and lifting weights in general across America.
