Yep, I have a problem. Late on the assignment I know, but nonetheless, presenting the Kenmore 60 Series apartment size direct drive!
This one's an early one indeed. Technically supposed to be a 1983 model, but was made realistically in 1986, so it's a 1986. And it's an early enough direct drive to have the old belt drive "center dial" console before they changed it. Basic machine with some extra cycles, and has the smaller tub to go with that.
There will be a long(ish) 2 part series to follow on cleaning and disassembling the machine, which will have been recorded 2 months prior to release. Sorry it's very late. I should also mention that I wanted to redo the intro for this series, as I wasn't pleased with the way I explained things in the original intro.

Very rare, the Kenmore 60 series I know is a 24 inch also but is a 87. And in FABULOUS condition. Very thrilled you got it. Thank you.

Congratulations! Enjoy! My late grandparent’s had a 1976 Kenmore 70 Series Large Capacity washer with the Penta Swirl Agitator and the Fabric Softener Dispenser. They sold it in 1996 and the model number is 110.72670110. My aunt and uncle had a 1981 Kenmore 70 Series Large Capacity washer with the Dual Action Agitator and the Fabric Softener Dispenser. They got rid of it in 1990 and the model number is 110.82172110.

We have one just like this and it is still running fine. It lasted so long because it only gets used maybe 10 times a year. Do you know the cubic feet capacity? I measured 1.84 ft3 but would like to know official size. Thanks!

You can look online and find the Sears 1986 fall winter catalog and see the first 27" DD washers. I remember seeing the Sears circulars in the Sunday paper back then and seeing the different tub opening. Noticed the change but had no idea it was a new design from the ground up until I got my Whirlpool DD in 1988.

This machine looks like the Direct Drive version of my Kenmore 70 Series. Mines the Belt Drive model, produced in 1986, meaning more than likely it was one of the last models produced before this one was made!

Oh yes, I remember hearing about this machine. Been so long I didn't think I was going to see this, although I did remember a couple of weeks ago talking to you via email. Yeah, nothing like backlogged videos, I got stuff from last year I'm releasing! Anyway, I really look forward to seeing this in action!

Yeah now that I'm getting increasingly busier with work, really only going to have so much time to do videos, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. I've already uploaded the entire series unlisted so it's ready to publish by the click of a button.

Looks good. My parents had a dryer with that style control panel but never the washer. I think the washer we had was a 1970s Kenmore but I honestly I don't even remember what it looked like except that it had a gold agitator. I can't even tell you which one but I honestly don't think it was the super surgilator. I'm thinking it was a straight vane agitator. The only other thing I remember about it was it had a switch on the control panel for a second rinse. If it was off the timer would stop after the first rinse and if on the timer would continue through a second rinse.
@lizboz
@lizboz 3 жыл бұрын
If it had a second rinse switch, chances are it might have been a Lady Kenmore. Except those had the dual action agitators and they were white. Some joker on AW might know the kind of machine you're talking about.
@tallboyyyy
@tallboyyyy 3 жыл бұрын
@@lizboz I know it wasn't as high end as a Lady Kenmore as my father wouldn't spend the extra $. It was most likely a lower middle of the road machine. Most likely vintage early 70s as it lasted until the early 90s and was replaced with a used center dial Maytag similar to mine.

When it was just me and father, the apartment we lived in at the time we had a Kenmore washer however it wasn’t a direct drive in fact it had a different sounding agitation sound and function. Also if you get any GE top load washers may you do a video of them, I should specify the GE’s that were before the Hydrowave models, some people call them the “chugga, chugga” GE’s😆
@lizboz
@lizboz 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the one you had was a belt drive unit. Highly doubt I'd ever acquire a GE in my collection.
@matthewmajestic1013
@matthewmajestic1013 3 жыл бұрын
@@lizboz well the washer that was in the apartment was a Kenmore but I didn’t have that typical rhythmic direct drive sound with the agitation, and I can’t remember if it had a spin/drain or neutral drain, I do know it was old Kenmore model that had the same control panel design as this one. As for the GE question I understand, I’m a little my favorite washer back then was actually not a Kenmore, GE, or Maytag, it was the Frigidaire gallery series washer with the swirl vane two piece agitator and the indexing wash basket, for some reason I just was head over heels for it🤷🏾‍♂️😅, I know they get the cold shoulder because of the indexing tub, but that’s okay it has its flaws like anything else. But I would happily own any washer that doesn’t have the HE mess🤣
@lizboz
@lizboz 3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewmajestic1013 Yeah it was definitely a belt drive unit, there are many videos on KZbin of those machines you can check out, they're totally awesome machines. Yeah the indexing tub is a bit of a deal breaker for me, but yes I agree, still HEAPS and BOUNDS better than the Hardly Efficient crap they make today!
@matthewmajestic1013
@matthewmajestic1013 3 жыл бұрын
@@lizboz yeah they are pretty sweet!, I’ll never forget the first time I saw a Frigidaire gallery series washer it was actually an old video on KZbin back in the early 2000’s, I was a child then but now I’m 21😆, long story short the thing that got me into them was the distinctive hum of the motor and the indexing tub (as it was something that Frigidaire was known for), and I really like how calm the slow agitation was on those, and yeah I just grew to love them. My mom had what I believe was a late 90’s GE top load washer that had the old short flex vane agitator, the magnetic lid switch, 3 cycle, 3 water level and temp controls, also the console design and color was the older style before they went to the blue and grey color scheme, hers was the Grey and red.
@lizboz
@lizboz 3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewmajestic1013 The one your mother had sounds like the one my late Grandmother had, if it's still even there. Mid 90s, red accented console, except hers had the dual action agitator, and just a regular "paddle" type lid switch. Never really had any issues using that machine, and if it hasn't been replaced by now, I'm sure it's still working without issues and will continue to for some time.

Interesting thing is there were belt drive versions of this machine in the early 1980’s but I am not sure how many are left out there since I haven’t seen any on AW with the center dial set up. The 24” belt drive versions of this machine had the lint filter which is good but what’s interesting is the full size 29” versions didn’t that a manual clean lint filter and had the so called self cleaning lint filter which didn’t do much of anything at all and tended to clog up over time.
@lizboz
@lizboz 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah manual clean filters are perfectly fine with me. Kind of like the lint filter on the dryer, just pull it out every now and again, clean as needed, put it back in, and guess what, it's a BRAND NEW FILTER all over again!

lizboz interesting thing is the lint screen on my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial dryer never really seems to get filled with lint and only when drying things such as towels. One thing I did get fixed on my ‘63 Whirlpool dryer is the sprinkler feature and it works surprisingly well but I suspect it’s for freshening up clothes that either sat in the dryer for awhile or to freshen up things that were line dried. Definitely the TOL Whirlpool dryer from 1963.

@@lizboz hopefully I can make full cycle videos soon but I’ll have to figure a way to disable the lid switch on my ‘63 Whirlpool and it’s not like the ones on the late belt drive and direct drive washers since it’s one of those mercury capsule switches and only thing I came up with is taping it off to the side or something in the engaged position.

I don't have a 90 series Kenmore, I have a 70 series and a 60 series. There won't be anymore videos on the 60 series until next year when things warm back up and I can hopefully get around to expanding our pumphouse, and then getting things hooked up to where I can actually use the machines with full utility service.
