UPDATE: New vlog Manda shows us her camp and why it feels good to give • A HOMELESS WOMAN Shows...
A few months back I logged onto Facebook and was greeted by a smiling homeless woman's selfie in front of a tent holding up a cup of coffee. It was captioned "good morning." Today, I met Manda at her homeless encampment where she made me a cup of coffee!
Most of the time I meet homeless people in person on the streets or in a homeless shelter. Then we often connect online and become friends. Manda and I became friends online first. I got to know her a little before seeing how she survives homelessness. I am having a hard time processing it all. Lots of emotions both good and bad right now!
Manda is an amazing woman. She is disabled from severe brain trauma, yet because she is high functioning, she falls through the gaps in the safety net. I have been working with her trying to help find a path out of homelessness, but the walls bureaucracy are impossible to break through.
For all the people that believe homeless people are lazy, I wish they could just spend an hour in Manda's shoes! She works hard to keep her tent camp clean. She works hard getting to treatment and therapy. She works hard every single day trying to survive. And she works extremely hard to stay positive while facing the madness of homelessness each and every day!
We must get Manda out from under that bridge into housing. Because of her health and being a woman out on the streets, she is extremely vulnerable living outside. If you are connected to social services in Seattle or know anyone that is, please reach out to them and forward Manda's story. I have talked to her social worker. Her health issues are severe, and we need to get this woman inside!

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Each year, our groundbreaking educational content reaches more than a billion people across the globe. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

I noticed that you made these homeless people smiled when you talked to them. It appeared homeless people believed someone cared for them. I think all human beings have the need to feel special or important, similar to love, which is a human need.

@hajile20 4 жыл бұрын
@@coreyzamprogno5510 I ran into some guys from a church (at a picnic near the shelter that I stayed in) that encouraged my life and my potential. One of the guys was a life coach that used me for a trial run. He helped me to gain a better perspective of my life and how who I want to be is up to me and their are no limits or excuses. I also made some really good friends who just cared about my progression. So I got a job stayed with a friend (paid what I could), got a GED, went to college, and kept climbing up. I also became apart of a drug recovery program at the church called chemical recovery to deal with my addictions. It's been about 10 years now, and I'm married, been to 4 countries in the past year, have a great job and the main provider for my family. Ive volunteered and encouraged people at the shelter that I lived in and have invested in the lives of a lot of people. Most of it my perspective came from learning from Jesus on how to serve others. I learned how it's better to give than to receive and it helped put me in a much better mindset because I realized that I really matter to the world.

You know? Every time I see someone in this situation, I remind myself that this person was somebody’s baby at one time. Their precious child. How would you like it if your child ended up in this situation? Most of us couldn’t comprehend the pain we would have if our little ones lived in such a way. Maybe I’m naive, but there’s gotta be a better way to prevent this. Just breaks my heart. -Stephen

The cunning uses humanity and impoverishes it. Is a parasite. In this case, we all need a roof, but if some have luxurious homes and others do not even have a room, the former are the parasites product of the inequality system. That is why in the second commandment, God tells us to love others as we love ourselves. Is it understood or not? Only the intelligent, sensitive and of good will understand it. We can all be lazy. Use drugs, at first occasionally. But what it really is is the death of the idea of god. What is the point of experiencing pain if the end result is the same? To suffer seems to be the actual truth, the reason. So the only question, for a genius, is to be or not to be? And if you choose to be, you choose to live, love, kill, eat, shit, and die. Not everyone is able to fool themselves. Not everyone believes the lies that they tell themselves. When you can't even pretend to believe in the comforts (god, gods, spirits, and meaning) you go back to the earth.

No, not all homeless people are what you expect - so many people are naive as to how this can actually happen. DO NOT think that this could never happen to you. Living in a world where most people are self-absorbed and selfish - do you really think it could never happen to you? You wonder about their family, friends, and associates - well, keep wondering! You have to have unconditional love and patience to deal with a love one misfortune in life - unconditional - which is really RARE! Becoming homeless allow you also to see people for what and who they REALLY are.....my heart feel her pain and know the pain she feels - so much disappointment in humanity as a whole. So much disappointment!!!

Oh please........the whole purpose of life isn't about defining words like rich and poor in ways that cater to making aomeone feel good about their circumstances. As her soul suffers soley based on what she's going through even though she doesn't have to. As there are an array of programs that set in place to assist individuals as such, when things like this happen. But these programs usually employ low lives and the likes of those with mental illnesses that actually believe they have vision and insight for the unfortunate. What a joke. Saying that her soul is rich means and does absolutely nothing for her. Neither are those that are souless giving a rats ass due to the need to envy. As they don't care about being souless.

I can relate...I was homeless for 20 years sleeping from one place to another then finally moved under a bridge for 3 years( I-95 and I-10 merger) in Jacksonville Florida. Then later I moved into a abandoned 3 car garage for another 3 years then finally I was discovered there by the owners. Rather than being put in jail for vagrancy they reached out and helped me and now I finnally have an apartment that I been been living in for about 5 years now and still going strong. God works through people to people always believe and never give up. Even though I was homeless I was happy and had lots of good times surviving. It was a great outdoor adventure, I was resilient and determined, and it was just like she said like camping out because we cooked out on homemade open grills dranked plenty beer and smoked plenty weed to help us get through the days. Other homeless friends who I can truly call friends looked out for each other and each other's stuff and belongings. We went to the food banks and got food and every month food stamps would come and help us. We had huge igloo coolers with ice for our meats and stuff. We took showers either at the mission's or homeless shelters or we improvised and found a isolated water hydrant, it maybe was cold especially during the winter but it did the job. Believe me when I tell you can be homeless and still be content just stay faithful and be resilient and change will come and that is my honest testimony. Im'ma living witness. God bless ya'll and just keep your head up and smile😇

We moved away and we heard the church was talking about stopping the outreach. It saddens me because reading your comment shows it is very much needed and appreciated. I think some don't understand the transition from homeless can take many years and require ongoing community support. We can't give up on one another. Dragon Slayer exactly right!!! The Bible clearly states that homelessness is God’s judgment on a nation...a society. In His mercy, God is calling on America to turn back to Him. The government, in all their “wisdom” has set themselves up “AS GOD” . They throw more and more $ at it...but you can never solve a Spiritual problem by throwing more money at it.

S.A.G it's more then that, I was homeless. I was abandoned and lived with random people by the homeless shelter. Never did Christmas or birthdays. All I ever wanted was a mother and father. It is more then working hard and keeping your head down. You are a bystander, Let it die SAG. Like most of society just laughing at those in need and bitching when something goes wrong instead of understanding and moving for a way to provide a solution. Everyone is like you and that's why so many people are homeless and go to drugs. I fucking hate alcohol and drugs because it dumbs us down but my country loves dopamine and sex and partying and to be a fucking bystander like you. It hits me in the heart man really hard. We can get a home and we can do better but we have that emotion that exists of loss. I wear my best friends dog tag next to mine on my chest and I feel that pain every day. If I was lying dead on the street people would walk on past. The most they would do is call the cops of whom they rely on for help and disrespect. I wish I could show you the rape and the trouble I have had. I have done nothing but tried and tried. I am a Marine, I am a patriot. I try everyday man, your so closed minded. Not all of us are bad. I'm no longer homeless, but my living situation is not ideal. I'm living in Albuquerque NM in a hotel because I have been unable to find more permanent housing with just my SSI payments. I'm making$783 and paying$715 for monthly rent at this hotel. I'm also a full time college student pursuing a bachelor's degree in General Psychology online from Colorado Technical University. I appreciate the work you do, but I wish there were more people like you out there who help the homeless people who are basically invisible to everyone else. As a person who was formally homeless this was difficult to watch....but I'm so proud of her telling story. Much more dangerous for women also. I complety understand her plight. I pray every day that broken people get mended or mend themselves.

Was homeless in Seattle almost 5 years. Every winter I would expect to die from freezing. I'm extremely grateful for those little things many never think twice about. It made me a better person & I consider it a form of higher education for the knowledge & perspective in which I move through Life, and interact with other human beings. I would never go back and change that expirence...and I'm glad I didn't die on those streets!
