How is AT&T’s fake 5Ge faster?
@g00bermeister
@g00bermeister 3 жыл бұрын
AT&T 5GE is surprisingly quite a bit more than just advanced LTE and you would notice a deviation(200mbps vs 150mbps) in speed if the signal actually read LTE. It's a little bit different from LTE, and it's not low band 5G (which is actually intended to perform worse but have better coverage per tower). But it's something like LTE+++ And it does not work on most LTE only Android phones. This is why they call it 5G evolution because it's more advanced than their normal LTE but it's still not a 5G band. it was/is an evolutionary step towards 5G.

Using both Verizon and AT&T I have really noticed you get the best network experience with no limits when using AT&T. I gave up on Tmobile many years ago. AT&T doesn't throttle their network one bit. That's more than value, that's justice and consumer friendly. Verizon has the best coverage with AT&T closing the gap and AT&T has the fastest speeds. Thanks for the video. Great job 👍

@SINCITYJ
@SINCITYJ 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bryan-Hensley Interesting because I'm curious if your devices are capable of connecting to all available bands? I know the newer the device is the more bands it can connect to. I haven't experienced any throttle with AT&T in a very long time. Still seems like you get more than decent speeds though. Stay safe and stay well 👍
@Bryan-Hensley
@Bryan-Hensley 3 жыл бұрын
@@SINCITYJ yes I am getting all the bands. AT&T is only using 12, 2 and 66 around here. Speeds are about the same on band 2 and 66. A little slower on 12. I can have the data modem and my phone on the same band, the modem will never go above 26 Mbps download, the phone will get to over 100 mbps. I think they are throttling all unlimited data plans but letting phones go wide open. But I'm happy with anything above 22 Mbps. If my modem gets on band 12 the speed will hover around 15 Mbps download. I don't understand why anyone needs 100 Mbps download.

Short summary: Basically turn off 5G unless you’re in a city that offers true ultra wideband/mmWave 5G. What I don’t get is why would they separate the low band 5G from 4G LTE. Why not combine the them and just call it 5G? You would seemingly have increased speed over just 4G LTE.

I noticed US Mobile beginning to roll out 5G where I live, and it’s just disappointing compared to the faster LTE network. Interesting that despite AT&T’s false advertising of “5G”-e, they’re actually giving you better speeds across the board (unless you happen to be in sight of a mmwave transmitter). Great test set. There are two points... if you are in a mmWave area, the 5G really does make a world of difference. Second, if you upload, esp tethered, 5G is (usually) vastly superior. So the use case matters in deciding where to go. I also found that streaming (that is, feeding a stream, not consuming one) over 5G tends to be more consistent, FWIW.

Stetson: Aside from the channel bandwidth consider the effect of backhaul connections. So, what you’ve measured is the how complete are the connections feeding 5G transceivers - at least in the mm bandwidth. It doesn’t matter what the transceiver capability if the feed can’t fill it. Note that the LTE based systems work fine not only from a bandwidth perspective, but the network feeding them are mature and able to give them all they can handle. Right?

great effort however, you need to compare RSRP to the throughput. At each location there will be a difference in proximity to the carrier's antenna and thus will effect your results.

Can't help buy notice that ATT is consistently a higher ping than the rest. It isn't horrible buy I wonder if you would notice a difference if trying to do something like FaceTime. Awesome video as always. But as far as "ATT 5G" goes I have to say I never see it pop up. I work in location that is suppose to be covered and traveling my whole state it hasn't shown on my iPhone once. I even went so far to even contact support because I thought something was wrong, but they couldn't see anything that would limit it and my plan was a 5G plan. I personally think their coverage map is just plain wrong.

Thank you so much for all your hard work on this comparison video. I truly appreciate all your videos. I hope you make it to New Orleans one day soon and do a comparison video. I would love to know who dominates here. I’ve heard Verizon rules in the city area. I’m live close to Lake Pontchartrain and I have AT&T and I think the LTE or 5ge works better here, but I’m not sure because I don’t have a Verizon phone to compare. My neighbors think Verizon is the better one. At home though, I’m mostly on Wi-Fi which I have Spectrum from Charter. Thanks again for the video!

Yeah. It is hilarious that 5G is basically slower than LTE right now. Either way, I plan to probably get a 5G phone next year. I’m thinking about the next Samsung. My S8 has been feeling a little old for awhile, but I do have to say it has served me well. My plan is to get the next Samsung for my main US Cellular while maybe putting my US Mobile Verizon SIM in my S8 since I have no other VOLTE phones that are technically mine currently and my S8 would work great for that.

Based on the speed tests being displayed on the video it sounds to me like there’s no real huge reason to rush out and buy the iPhone 12 if you want 5G coverage. This is not the first time I’ve seen these kind of results I think if I were to purchase the iPhone 12 pro myself, I would be tempted to turn off 5G and just give everyone a chance to build out their networks a little bit more

The good news is the iPhone 12 has a great LTE modem, too. I think I’ll probably end up leaving 5G turned off too, based on my results in my area. Performance does vary a lot from location to location though, so it may be worth running some of your own tests in your own location to see how the networks perform.
