Bruce = Singer, Adrian = guitar. janick = guitar, Dave = guitar. Steve = bass. Nicko = drums. The 3 guitarists along with Steves bass gives Iron Maiden such a unique sound.

Iron Maiden's 3-guitar attack came together in 1999 and featured on their 2000 album 'Brave new world' for the first time... 'Dance of Death' (the album) came in 2003. They were nicknamed 'the 3 Amigos' because they get along so well on and offstage 😂 Dave Murray is the longest serving Maiden guitarist, becoming a permanent member since 1977 in their club days... he is the technical master of the band. Guitarist Adrian Smith joined in late 1980... he and Dave Murray were friends since their teens & Murray played in Smith's pre-Maiden pub bands (Urchin... Evil Ways) before Iron Maiden... Adrian Smith quit Maiden in 1989, but worked w/ Bruce Dickinson's solo band in 1997 and rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999. Adrian Smith is one of the key composers in Maiden. Janick Gers (guitar) replaced Adrian Smith in 1990. He had played w/ Deep Purple's Ian Gillan in the 80's and recorded Bruce Dickinson's first solo album before joining Iron Maiden... His energetic and manic stage presence is just as vital as his song compositions.

Just recently watched Maiden in Manchester, absolutely amazing I think Bruce is the youngest at 65 and Nico on the drums is the oldest at 70 and the band still have the same energy it's incredible to watch them, If they ever play near you Biscuit go and watch them you'll have the best time.

According to Bruces´ outfit, this must have been the 2010 tour, so I guess they were in their early to mid 50s. Saw them live last Tuesday in Munich and it wasn´t that much different 🙂

Saw them last month, they have just finished European tour, and they are still excellent. Nicko (drummer) has just turned 71 and had a stroke in January and says he is only playing at 70% at present and hope to be at lot better for Canada and California in a month or so.

This concert was in 2011. Tomorrow the singer Bruce Duckinson turns 65. 7th of august, born 1958. The drummer Nicko McBrain is 71. In this january he has a stroke, a numb right arm. But he get well, he say shortly nearly 75%. At this friday 5th of august they played there last concert at Wacken in germany. The final concert of their european tour leg. The other boys are in their mid 60tis too. Live always a blast. Fun, fit and great music from and at stage.

I like when he says sorry about that to an steward...he had cancer of the throat (twice) a big chunk of his tongue had to be removed ...so he had tom learn how to talk again, never mind sing, he achieved both but he does spit a lot when singing so it was nice of him to apologise to the steward he most likely spat on. Really nice guy no drink or drugs and that is the whole band. used to drink as usual but after their drummer died from an overdose a pact was made no alcohol or drugs in this band forever! and that is why they are still touring in their sixties (drummer 71) and still going.

This is a bit off topic, but Iron Maiden related, a while back I discovered this really great Bosnian documentary called "Scream For Me Sarajevo". I'm not sure how it would work as a reaction, but it might be something that you might be interested in just watching on your own even. Basically, during the war in the 90s, a UN Major contacted Bruce Dickinson, this was during the time he had left Iron Maiden and was doing his solo thing, and asked him if he wanted to come and perform in Sarajevo during the siege, and Bruce not really knowing what he was getting himself into, agreed and went with his band to play for these kids there. By kids, I mean teenagers that are really maybe only a couple years older than I was at the time, and are now old fucks like me, but they talk about their lives of growing up with their city under siege, and how they felt like the rest of the world had abandoned them, but when Bruce came, it was a magical night that took them out of their everyday life's for a night, and how much it meant to them that he came. It's very touching! Make sure you have your tissues standing by. At least half of it is in Bosnian, so make sure you find a copy with subtitles.

I had the good fortune to see Bruce's first tour with Maiden, way back on the Number Of The Beast tour. There were protestors outside the Richfield Coliseum in Ohio on a snowy night, something about devil worshipers and such. The place was sold out and they rocked that old venue. Saw them on the tour before the Dance Of Death tour, around 2002. Bruce was all over the stage like a gymnast hyped up on too much caffeine.

Well, they have three guitar players now, but it used to be two. It's kind of a long but funny story. I wasn't huge into Maiden as a kid, because I'm not necessarily that hard core, and as a kid the artwork frightened the shit out of me because I was a big scaredy cat then, I guess. Ha! When I got older and started actually listening to their music, I slowly became a little fascinated with them, and overtime I've been trying to learn more about their history. They've put out a few documentaries along side concert videos, but the ones they did only really go up to the 80s. So my knowledge is a little limited. Basically, Steve Harris, the bassist, Iron Maiden is his band. He had a vision of what he wanted, and created it, and I think he's very protective of that and of being in control as the leader of the band. When he started though, he was basically an amateur and a working class guy with a regular Monday through Friday job, that kept trying to put together line ups to play local pubs on the weekends, and the band went through a lot of different versions before getting something that worked. The first real find was when he met Dave Murray, and was blown away with his guitar playing, and put him in the band. Later, he had a lead singer that was a crazy guy that kicked Dave Murray out of the band because he didn't like his girlfriend. That guy eventually fired everyone in the band, and then Steve Harris got rid of him. At one point, the whole band was just Steve Harris, Dave Murray, and their drummer at the time. The eventual line up when they started getting noticed in the scene and started really making a name for themselves was with their original singer, Paul Di'Anno, Steve Harris on bass, Nicko McBrain on drums, and Dave Murray and Adrian Smith on guitars. Then Paul Di'Anno left, and they talked Bruce Dickinson into leaving his band Sampson, and joining them. That's the classic line up of Maiden right there. Later, Adrian Smith left the band, followed shortly after by Bruce also leaving and starting a solo career. So, for 8 or 9 years they had a series of other members to replace them. Eventually they replaced Adrian Smith with Janick Gers, who was a very good guitar player that had come from other bands in the scene, and had also played with Bruce on his solo stuff. Eventually, they started having conversations with Bruce about coming back, and Bruce eventually said, "Alright, but if I come back, Adrian is coming back too!" And they said, "Yeah, ok. Sure. Why not? Fine. We don't care." But they had already replaced Adrian with Janick, and I guess everybody liked Janick, and nobody wanted to tell him to leave. So, "Fuck it! We'll just have three guitar players instead of two. Fuck yeah! I like it! It's even more metal!"

This just came to me out of nowhere, but.... I would love to see Bisscute react to "Mission From `Arry", lol... THAT would different!! No music, just the band having an argument, lol. Who's right? Who's wrong? Who cares? LOL Her reaction to that would be priceless, though (and that's why we are here - for her REACTION - not just the content she is reacting to). For context, Nicko explains the whole thing in the "Notta Lotta People Know That" (Listen With Nicko) bonus track on the 2 Minutes To Midnight / Aces High Singles Box Set disc, and even that is hilarious. No one tells a story like Nicko.

I'm a huge Maiden's fan, but I don't like this song so much - although this one is (one more!) great performance! Their live performances are out of this world. I got some suggestions of Maiden's songs better than this one: "Aces High"; "2 minutes to midnight"; "Fear of the Dark"; "The number of the Beast"; "The Trooper"; "Run to the Hills"; "Wasted Years"; "Infinite dreams"; "The rime of the ancient mariner"; and, from their latest album, "Senjutsu", I recommend "The writing on the wall" and "Hell on Earth". Up the Irons!
