I found aegosexual while I was figuring out that I'm ace at all, so it was kind of just a byproduct of me realizing I'm ace and wondering if any micro label fits me even more. Aegosexuality just sounded right, so while I usually simply say I'm ace I also know and could say I'm aego haha. Btw what helped me figure out I'm ace at all was partly thanks to your channel

Being Aego is actually the reason it took me so long to realize I was Ace. 😅 It took me until last year, right before my 30th birthday, to actually properly reflect on all of my past crushes and my one romantic relationship in High School, and to realize that I’ve never actually been sexually attracted to anyone in real life, even my celebrity crushes. It’s always just been a strong aesthetic attraction and/or sensual attraction. (Basically, I don’t particularly want to have sex, I want to stare at pretty people and cuddle with them lol) I realized I’ve only ever, sort of, experienced sexual attraction vicariously, through the eyes of non-ace characters in smutty fanfics and such. lol 😂 It was quite the revelation, to say the least, but a lot of things suddenly made a lot more sense. 😅

I wish I had ran across this mircolabel earlier cause I spent nearly 10 years being like "I can't be ace, I read a lot erotica and yaoi! I must be some kind of freak." The first time I ran across this term was 2021 in an OT video on Ace memes and it had the explanation of various microlabels using cereal that was posted on AVEN. I literally cried for like half the rest of the day knowing there were other people out there like me and I wasn't that much of an outsider. So ya, I think micro labels are supper helpful. I hope now that these words are out there people can find them and can feel good in their own skin sooner.

Back in December of 2021, I watched a video by One Topic going over r/Lgbt memes. One of them was a tumbler post going over each sexuality and describing sex as bowls of cereal. Ageosexuality was described as "Wanting to make a bowl of cereal, but not wanting to eat it (my wording isn't correct because I don't remember it exactly)". For me, that caught my attention. I thought "That's exactly how I feel about sex! What is this? More! I need to know more please!". So I paused the video and looked it up. Learned about the history and where the word came from, the meaning of the flag, and checked out the sub reddit of r/Ageosexual. Now I call myself a frozen piece of waffle because Ageo sounds like "Lego my Ego" the catchphrase of the frozen waffle brand.

I remember that post from OT's video aswell! I always struggled with losing interest in anything sexual with my partners after a while. It doesn't happen super fast, but it always happens eventually. I felt really bad about it and thought it meant I could never really have a long term relationship that continuously involved sex and I thought that was terrible and that I was somehow broken. "Fraysexuality: You enjoy a bowl of a brand of cereal you never had before and then you watch the cereal's commercial on TV and after getting to know the mascot of the cereal well enough, you no longer wanne eat the cereal, for reasons you can not explain." (Something along those lines.) Turns out the solution is to have partners who are ok with me occasionally eating different brands of cereal :)

This just made me realize that I might just be aegoromantic. Before, I thought I was biromantic because I’ve had crushes on people from multiple genders. I’ve never really felt like I needed to get together with them, I just liked liking them and didn’t want anything to come up from it. I thought this was just me being stupid and shy and not having enough time for a relationship. My crush just asked me out last night and I didn’t know why I wasn’t like… jumping for joy like my other friend who had the same experience did. I still haven’t replied yet and I’m not sure how to do that. Anyway, thanks for helping me realize this!

I found out that was missing within my life in April 2022, and after some studying upon the internet and the realization of that I never want a love-relationship with a partner, I came to discover that I fall in both microlabels "Aegoromantic Aegosexual". Like what they say about it, completely fits me. I felt more attracted and drawn to fictional characters than I ever did with a real boy/man in my entire life (XD). I thought for a long time that there's something's wrong with me and stuff like "I needed to be in a relationship like my sisters and to have grandkids, society and everything etc" but that truly turned me off and the idea of it terrifies me. Since I've seen the video of Jaiden Animations being Aroace, I thought of maybe I am that too. But then I found out about those two microlabels. Honestly, I never felt happier about myself since I found this. I don't need to be in a relationship (and never will either) to be happy (like I always thought I needed to be to follow an example like my sisters), I'm perfectly happy now as I am and that's enough for me. This new me feels never better before and I'm totally embracing this

At this point I'd consider myself a bit of an elder ace because I've been active in the community for over 7 years, and I have to say that seeing words shift in meaning just really annoys me. I know feeling like that is not helpful because it won't change anything, but still. It's just frustrating to see influencers so authoritatively say things that 7 years ago would've been laughed away. Aego means something so much more vague than it did when I first learned about what autochoris was. But at this point is it even useful to correct people? They're going to do whatever anyways. Autochoris wasn't an orientation in itself. It was a descriptor for the tendency to have a certain type of s3xual fantasy, specifically the type in which the person having the fantasy wasn't involved in it. A third person fantasy, like internally watching a movie about other people doing it. It literally translates to 'self-without' (Greek). It's not about smut. It's not an orientation. It's a type of fantasy. This was a common experience among aces, but not exclusive to aces. The term was coined by researcher Anthony Bogaert in his book about aces. There's some pretty cringy stuff in the book unfortunately, which is part of the reason people wanted to call it something different, and aego was coined. Cupio is a lack of attraction, but a presence of desire to engage in activity. The opposite of that would be a lack of desire with a presence of attraction, and the word for that is orchid. Sometimes lith/akoi (often misspelled akio) is posited as an opposite to cupio, but it's not a perfect opposite, because lith/akoi involves attraction fading when it's reciprocated so there's no desire to follow through, rather than just straight up presence of attraction with absence of desire. Also, aego is incorrect Latin. It should be anego, which again translates to 'without self'. Grammatically, there has to be an 'n' between 'a' and 'ego'. But well, words are words, which means they'll forever be subject to change. At this point saying 'x is defined as y' is more of a prescriptive statement than a descriptive statement, as in you're really saying 'my opinion is that x should be defined as y'. By saying 'x is defined as y', you're spreading that definition of y, and depending on how much influence you have, you might just make that the most widely accepted definition.

I've never been attracted to having sex, but since I enjoy self-pleasuring I figured that I just hadn't found someone I was attracted to yet. However I came across the term aegosexual on some LGBTQIA+ wiki whilst researching labels for one of my (many) made up characters and my reaction was just: Oh, that's me, well that explains a lot. I found out that I'm arospike as well in a very similar way, just stumbling across a label that perfectly described me. 2:49 🤓 Um actually, aegosexual is NOT the opposite of cupiosexual. The opposite of cupiosexual would be orchidsexual (A grey-sexual micro label in which someone does feel sexual attraction but doesn’t want a sexual relationship or encounter). Here are the definitions of all these three labels Aegosexual: Someone who feels a disconnect between themselves and the subject of sexual arousal Cupiosexual: Someone who doesn’t feel sexual attraction but desires a sexual relationship or encounter Orchidsexual: Someone who does feel sexual attraction but doesn’t desire a sexual relationship or encounter As you can see, aegosexual ISN’T the opposite of cupiosexual. Don’t believe everything you see on Tiktok🤓 (I know I put nerd emojis, but as an aegosexual myself who doesn’t experience sexual attraction, I thought I should bring this up. I hope this helps, as you stated that you don’t know everything about the LGBTQ community. I don’t know everything about it either :)

Aegosexuality is the exact reason microlabels need to exist. You don't feel the kind of sexual attraction most people seem to feel but you definitely feel sexual attraction (or at least something that seems a lot like it); the vague description of asexuality of "little-no sexual attraction" is completely unhelpful when you feel it and may even feel it often and makes you feel like you don't belong, when you see a description of something that's considered asexual and is close to if not exactly what you are feeling then you know where you stand and feel confidant calling yourself a member of the community.

The term aegosexual always irks me because whoever coined it made a linguistic mistake. It is made up of the prefix “a” (not) and “ego” (I) to describe people who do not want themselves involved; but when “a” stands before a vowel it should become “an” (as in “anarchy or “anorexia”), in this case forming “anegosexual”. Without the “n” people combine the vowels to pronounce aegosexual like “agosexual” or even “egosexual”, the latter being the opposite of what is intended.

When was that whole bit in the video? That's fictosexual (not touching that cause it's controversial and idk). Aegosexual is a microlabel of asexual that means one can have sexual fantasies, enjoy sexual content, and all that, but not feel sexual attraction towards people and/or not want to have sex. Microlabeling is used to better label yourself if you choose to do so, and isn't harmful at all. (It's still really funny to me that I found you under this video lol)
