The world used to be full of single people. Just 100 years ago, 1 in 10 jobs was that of a servant. Your live in servant was typically single. Below the servant were those who had to work at the local "poor farm" where labor was exchanged for food and a place to sleep. These situations will return as there is nothing new under the Sun.

Currently at age 50, no mortgage, no debt, no alimony, diversified portfolio, career that I enjoy, my hobby and other stuff I enjoy to do in life without always asking permission from the HQ. Yep, I'd rather have the stigma of spinster than deal with a man who expects me to be his psychiatrist, therapist, social worker, caregiver and emotional dumping ground. Recently broke up after trying to salvage a long-term relationship and got tired of being the guys mother. One example he didn't shower for a month and told me that for him to shower I have to remind him. Why should I have to remind a grown man to wash his own ass? We both had our hours at work significantly reduced but he REFUSED to apply for employment insurance for reasons of pride. Was not looking for work. I applied for mine while he did nothing but sit around, play video games, stink up the apartment and leave me to foot the bills. Than one night woke me up from a dead sleep, threw me to the wall, shook me around, screamed in my face telling me how irresponsible I am with booze on his breath. Neighbor called the cops and he was taken overnight to a drunk tank. He blamed me for his arrest. That was very scary. First two years into the relationship it was great, than the other two years was spent trying to repair it. My family and I even got him connected with social services and mental health services which such help is relatively ample in BC, Canada. He refused all the help and the psych nurse even told him that he should be grateful that myself and my family helped him navigate the social services system. But no, he just kept drinking, smoking weed, playing video games and using me as an emotional dumping ground. With the occasional pinning me into a corner while screaming in my face. His family has cut him off and the patience of his best bro that he's currently living rent free with is now wearing thin. Had to let go of a lot of people in my life because of shit like this. This is why I plan on being single for the rest of my life. There are plenty of men out there who are like this. Plenty of women like this too. Plenty of people in general like this and it's only going to get worse. Stay single and be careful with your platonic relationships. It can be lonely but the peace is worth it.
