I was almost killed when I was 28. I was hiding under a blanket and he was standing right over me but did not see me. I thought I was going to be strangled to death. My heart was beating so load I could not hear anything. When you think your going to be attacked or die no one knows how they will react until it happens to them.

Yes; too many mistakes. He tried to feebly cover his tracks and a little planning, but all he had to do was: Keep his cell at home Park a mile or so from the scene. He does jog, so he's in shape Scour the rooms to retrieve left-behind evidence Finish off the witness if he in fact saw her Any half-wit could figure this out. The ONLY thing missing that we're oblivious to is motive. But the other likely/tight facts could have been avoided.

@@tamitatangoto5134 too often people reject God because they think "why did God allow this to happen!". I don't believe it works that way, because I also believe in the Christian Faith and the worst monster alive could find redemption thru God. If that's true then God doesn't "allow" awful things to happen because he gave us free will and I don't see it like God is monitoring our every move all the time. 1) Dylan hears odd noises 2) Dylan Sees a man with a Black mask 3) Dylan waits 7-8 hours to contact police 4) Victoms Dog found at the crime scene alive 5) 1122 Kingman road "party house" Had multiple noise complaints 6) Multiple people some under age would come in go at the "party house" 7) KZbin videos shows Bodycam footage of police talking to one of the victims about noise complaints 8) police went to the "party house" twice in one night due to noise complaints. 9) Bryan Kohberger asked police if he was the only one that's been arrested Now until further Evidence/facts comes out I find it very odd that Dylan waited hours to contact the police. I find it very odd that the dog didn't bark at the stranger or if the dog would bark nobody in the house herd the dog barking. Now to say Dylan froze up/Shocked for 7-8 hours is pathetic of an excuse. You don't become that mentally checked out bc you saw a man in a skii mask in the middle of the night. (IM NOT BUYING IT) As for the multiple noise complaints and many party goers going in and out of the house I mean sure I get it if you get an noise complaint hear or there but it's unexcusable To have multiple noise complaints and very unexcusable for the police to show up twice in one night. So they obviously had some angry neighbors. You look on Google maps the party house is surrounded by a near by apartment buildings and multiple houses close by in my opinion there may be more then one suspect, the Dylan girl seems very suspect to me and as far as the evidence police has found. Went thru his father's trash and found DNA of what exactly?? Let's say he thru evidence away at his father's home on December 16th the day after him and his father was pulled over in Indiana. If he thru evidence in his father's trash around that time how would they able to gather that DNA qhen the arrest happened December 30th?? Plus the trash gets picked up by the garbage man once a week Plus how would they able to match that DNA in the trash to the DNA in Idaho in such a small amount of time?? Maybe I'm not understanding this Also Dylan see the suspect gets a visual of the suspect where a black mask and bushy eyebrows but yet experts claim it was to dark for the suspect to see Dylan ???

I have a 19 year old daughter at college. She's "sticks to herself" a lot. I could 100% see my daughter reacting similarly to DM. Unless my daughter saw something, or heard something criminal, she probably would've done the same thing, closed her door, locked it, and figured "everything is OK. I don't want to make a big deal out of this. It's probably nothing". There's absolutely no way the thought of "maybe 4 of my roommates were just killed and I should call the police" would ever enter her mind. It's easy for all of us, especially older people, to say "what we would've done" now understanding what took place, but that's not fair. This girl was cleared immediately by investigators and was helpful and truthful. Her description was very accurate. If she had anything to do with these murders or to hide, she could've just told police "I was sleeping. I didn't see or hear a thing", but she didn't. She was honest and told the police everything she could. This poor girl will undoubtedly live a lifetime with regret, survivors guilt, and a myriad of other emotions. Give her a break.

Exactly. Internet trolls would be calling for your daughter to "start taking her meds" after thinking that something like a quadruple stabbing could have just occurred. They'd be doing the same for DM if she had taken immediate action. DM is very clearly in a lose-lose situation here, amid public opinion. I wish her the best and I hope she's able to receive any help she needs.

I totally agree! This killer existed surrounded by academic and therapeutic experts yet no one had a clue. He was even stopped by law enforcement and he escaped their radar. Though some accuse him of being a "sloppy" criminal, other crime scenes featured more physical evidence but failed to catch the murderer. Many assailants are deluded, believing they are above the law and superior to police. Homicide cases can go "cold" really fast. Families have to fight to continue investigations.

I know there’s a lot of confusion as to why Dylan reacted the way she did. I’m glad so many people are still sympathizing with her while trying to understand her reactions. Obviously none of us can fully put ourselves in her shoes but we can try. Personally, a few months ago, I was alone in my dorm room as my roommate was away at her boyfriends and our room was unlocked as it always is (we don’t trust ourselves not to lose our keys and it’s really common at our school to leave the door unlocked). I woke up around 4am a random guy barging into my room, wearing all black with a backpack, and standing the middle of our room before he grabbed my roommates laundry basket. I was so sleepy and confused all I did was say “dude… wrong room” and he said “oh shit” and sprinted out, not even closing the door. I closed the door and went back to sleep. Looking back I cannot fathom why I didn’t freak out, especially as a young woman alone. I never reported it and I don’t know why I reacted the way I did. Perhaps it was bc I was barely awake or couldn’t process the danger I was in? I can only dylan being in a similar hard to understand mental state. We do weird things when we can’t process our surroundings. Also, side note, I had been drinking that night and my understanding is Dylan likely was too. Perhaps the drowsiness and alcohol played a part. Her reaction doesn’t make my suspicious of her, more pity than anything, as I am sure she is beating herself up (undeservedly).

love this comment! seeing people be suspicious and even downright blaming her for not calling the police immediately. the mask part is super depended on context-considering ethan stayed over often, it wasn’t totally unusual for other people to be there at night, and wearing a mask in someone else’s home when visiting isn’t weird at all these days. i think women also often tell themselves they’re overreacting, i think it’s possible she was scared but just pushed it away, because no one would expect such a horrible crime to occur just out of the blue. i just wish people would be more compassionate to the surviving roommates, they’ve just experienced a hugely traumatic event, being kind and understanding towards them is the least we can do

I once fell asleep in my dorm room in daylight on top of the bed while studying. I woke up in the dark, standing, two or three feet from the side of the bed. This was the year that that Danny Rolling guy had murdered students in Florida but was not yet caught. I can’t say to this day whether the soft clunk I heard was right then or a sort of memory of what woke me - but I knew someone had just shut the door to my room. I also had a flashing sensation in my eyes despite the dark. It was a long, narrow room - window behind me, door in front of me, everything totally dark. I had an intense urge to not be trapped at the back of the room and rushed forward. A couple of feet from the door, just in the alcove between door and closet, I passed through what I can only describe as a column of warm air: i do not recall smelling anything, but I knew for certain it was exactly where someone had stood. I even knew it was a make, and how much taller than me. I opened the door and stepped out into the corridor. It was very quiet. Even the drunks and party animals were asleep. All of this took just four or five seconds. A guy coming from the dead end of the corridor a few rooms down. He had to have passed the last room-doors, reached the fire escape door and realised it was alarmed, so he’d turned and was starting back. Still fuddled by sleep, I strode out along the corridor and we both stopped at the only turnoff, where there was a eight angle short corridor to elevator and stairs. He was well muscled: as I looked at his biceps at my face level, I said he didn’t live here, and he politely, blandly, agreed. And just stood there waiting. There followed a bizarre exchange where I offered him reasons why he was on this floor - visiting a friend, got out the elevator in the wrong floor, got lost etc - and he politely declined each one. This was getting a bit Red Riding Hood. He was wearing his tanktop rolled jp almost to his nipples, one of the narcissist fads of that year, showing his daunting sixpack. My brain FINALLY got into gear and I realised I was even standing well within his (much longer) reach. I stepped back, turned and hustled back up the corridor, and he moved almost as fast away towards the elevator & stairs. Cursing myself for doing the stupidest thing ever, back in my room I called the building security. They told me I probably had a bad dream. Nobody came along to check anything. I was a foreigner there. All of us Europeans were already incredulous at the lack of security in the dorms - horrified at the “herd book” at reception - but the locals seemed oblivious to security. I got back from class the following afternoon to find a message from the city (not campus) police, and when I called they asked me to go down there. The officer (or deputy,, I have no idea) an older man, got me to describe what happened and then describe the guy: he had an unusual detail about his face, and when I mentioned it, I saw the officer knew it very well. In the days that followed, half a dozen people told me of their encounters with this guy (how he bumped someone’s desk as he came round the room corner and calmly picked up and put back a pen that rolled off) and half a dozen others told me of other people who had been assaulted by him. He had been prowling for weeks. Remember, the Florida murderer of students had not been detected yet. The university at no time alerted students about this or any other prowler.

He had moved to Washington in June and had until November 30 to change his registration to Washington from PA. I thought that seemed fishy at first too but it's not actually. He did meticulously clean the car out the police say and wore surgical gloves to empty the garbage at his parent's house and even took their trash to a neighbor's can instead of using his family's garbage can! That says "guilty" to me! No one does that!
@nickh.4917
@nickh.4917 Жыл бұрын
I agree in context, but I have done each of those things. I wash my hands after taking the trash out, but wearing gloves isn’t a stretch. When I clean my car it is top to bottom. And my neighbor and I often use each other’s trash cans. If mine is filled and my neighbor’s isn’t it costs money to add an extra trash bag to mine but nothing if neighbor’s isn’t filled. So, yeah, all together it seems odd, but not individually.

@@nickh.4917 agree. I would add that a cross-country car trip can leave a vehicle pretty messy. I have not read anywhere that the car was cleaned in PA vs somewhere else. Only that it was meticulously cleaned. If his intention was to destroy evidence, seems like he would not have waited a whole month to clean the car. Perhaps he cleaned the car twice. His movements on Nov 13th include several hours in the Lewiston area. I wonder if that is when he cleaned the car, and perhaps tossed the knife into the Snake River.
@rubiirae
@rubiirae Жыл бұрын
Well, consider they just drove across the country and that car looked visibly filthy, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on cleaning the car. He could've cleaned it closer to the date of murder instead of at his parents house, because during the month led up to him driving to PA, he still had to drive that car to school. As for wearing gloves to take the trash out, I do the same because I usually have to double check if I've separated all the recycle items from the regular disposal pile so I wore gloves to prevent my hands from getting dirty, then tying up the bags again and grabbing them to the communal recycling bins. Not defending BK by any means, just saying those two incidents are easily explainable and quite common.

My guess is Dylan either went into a freeze state OR she found the guy in the house extremely freaky & scary but was so used to it being a party house full of strangers she didn’t know whole story & just felt a roommate had a huge creepy creep over & chalked it up to that. I don’t think humans can always compute something that bad can happen when they don’t truly think it can happen to them in their life. Biggest question I truly have is why he left her alive. Perhaps he was that exhausted or didn’t see her. It also occurs to me he felt the cops were already called & just tried to exit stealthy but then sped away as soon as out. It’s so creepy - that detail.

From the numerous reports of this being a common party house, and two of the girls coming home from the bar + ordering late night food, Dylan likely concluded that the man she ran into was someone who the other 2 girls brought home from the bar or at the very least invited into the home. She locked the door because it was a strange man to her-any woman would do the same. As a roommate she’s privy to her other mates business, probably thought the other was drunk crying over her ex bf (that she had been drunk dialing all night). None of it is far fetched when you put yourself in young naive college aged kids shoes. No one should blaming this girl or questioning her.

I agree that no one should judge her. The facts concerning what she did that night are facts she provided to law enforcement voluntarily, to help them establish probable cause for Kohberger's arrest. I disagree with normalizing not calling 911. We can suspend judgment about her, without saying it's "understandable" that a person would fail to call 911. You are supposed to call 911. This crime has to be thoroughly investigated. It's tragic for the other roommates, but they have to be investigated. She can decline to be questioned further if this is bad for her mental health, but if a court subpoenas her, she will need to testify.

Then he lost his benefits for his prescriptions. Unmedicated his new wife saw how "strange" he had become. She went for divorce. Now unmedicated he spiralled down. He snapped. Took an ax and killed her and her adult daughter and then chickened out on killing himself. He made it in the world without hurting anyone for 50 years. Had he been able to have easy access to meds I think he might have made it. Maybe... Now doing life without parole. His name is Charles Nettlebeck. When I was Dylan's age, I was very niave. I had a man come to my apartment and was insisting he needed to come in. I told him no and shut the door quickly, locked it and then sat on my couch scared with a big pair of scissors (it was all I had.) He came back with a knife, insisting he needed to find his uncle. I did not open the door, but I told him his uncle wasn't there and that I didn't know his uncle. I was terrified, but I didn't call the police because in my young mind I thought the police would be mad because the guy was not there anymore and I thought maybe I could get in trouble. I think my reluctance was being niave and inexperienced. Now, I wouldn't hesitate to call police. I could also imagine that Dylan convinced herself that nothing happened because how often to horrible things like that happen, she didn't go look because she didn't want to know and if she saw something truly horrible she didn't think she could handle it, so she waited. Then when it got later and later she called others over because she didn't want to see the reality of what she feared. I don't know....that is how I could imagine feeling in her situation. My heart is so heavy for her.

Hindsight bias makes it seem to us that she should have immediately called 911 but she only had limited information at the time 1. She lived in a party house with probably many late night guests 2. She only heard crying and someone playing with a dog. 3. Many people are still wearing face masks. 4. We don't know what she meant by "frozen shock phase" could have just meant she was creeped out to suddenly see a man there and briefly froze. Normalcy bias is a common cognitive distortion where we minimize a potential threat so she likely just rationalized it away and went to bed.

My father was an alcoholic. When bad things happened, I went into denial mode. So, once I hired a handyman my friend recommended. Little did I know he was a thief! So, he went outside and came in through a window that was also a door and I met him in my hallway. I froze. In some part of my brain, I knew he should NOT be coming in through my window and should have come in through the front door, but I froze and said nothing. Later when I realized he had stolen valuable rings from me that my mother-in-law had given me in case I needed to sell them at some point I realized that freezing may have saved my life. I know some people would have questioned the guy or yelled at him. Instead, I froze. I was grateful for that reaction because I lived alone in a secluded place and if he killed me the woods were behind my house. No one would have known it was him. He could have escaped easily. If Dylan had some sort of childhood abuse that could have happened to her too. Maybe it saved her life too?

His criminology academic focus was technology. I am confused how he would not know on the night in question and all the nights prior to have his computer linked to his phone’s hotspot at home while watching a 3-hour-long Bollywood flick-because that keeps the phone active and traceable to the location a perp would want it to be, not where he actually is. Why did he drive his car knowing Ring/store/parking lot/street surveillance cameras would all pick this up the night in question and the nights prior? Why not put glue on his, eyebrows and cover them, with concealer like the drag Queens do? Why use a knife with a sheath he has handled with his bare hands when it is clear he knows where to get gloves. Why talk? Why leave witnesses alive, because it isn’t like he ran out of bullets? Did he just get bored, with killing and decided he’d call it a day? If I wanted frame him, I’d take his phone and car when he was asleep and establish a surveillance pattern near the house, then, on the night in question, pay some meth head to walk through the house and spook the roommate to make sure she saw the eyebrows. So many mistakes from a PhD criminology student is definitely going to cause a decrease in enrollment in that school, because apparently nobody learns anything there.
