What I liked about this video was its argument about how one should look at food. If we treat diabetes as a form of servitude to eat sugarless food and perceive it as a form of weakness then that is not going to help us make lifestyle changes which are crucial for taming the beast of diabetes. Hence one must look at unhealthy foods,sugary foods with adequate disgust and healthy foods with profound reverence. That is what is going to make a difference.

Wow, beautifully expressed.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful reflection! Your perspective on how we approach food, especially in managing conditions like diabetes, adds a valuable layer to the conversation. Recognizing the power of mindset when it comes to making healthy lifestyle choices is key, and your words about viewing food with the right balance of reverence and caution are beautifully articulated. We're glad you connected with the message in the video and appreciate your contribution to this discussion! 😊

Use the sugar levels instead of fighting them, go for a walk with the dog or take your bicycle for a trip of about ten Miles and not your e-bike, your motorcycle or your car!! Use the muscles in your legs, that is what you have them for! See you on the road.

I love stuffing at thanksgiving. I have to eat stuffing but how can I make diabetic friendly stuffing? Do you have a recipe?
@carldoerr35552 ай бұрын
I would look at some of these low carb breads that are out now. R take a look at rye bread. There's got to be a way. I love stuffing too, but my cat's wife won't be able to make it the traditional style this year. Good luck!
@SugarMDs2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question! Stuffing is definitely a Thanksgiving favorite, and there are ways to make it more diabetic-friendly. One idea is to use low-carb or whole-grain bread as a base. You can also include more non-starchy vegetables like celery, onions, and mushrooms, which are great for adding flavor without extra carbs. Reducing the amount of butter or using a healthy fat alternative can also help. There are plenty of recipes online for diabetic-friendly stuffing, but here's a basic tip: consider using whole wheat or almond flour-based bread, and be mindful of the seasonings-go for herbs that enhance flavor without adding sugar. Feel free to share if you try a new recipe! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 😊

Doc I have been diagnosed with pre diabetes. I make my own breads using sorghum flour, barley flour and ground flaxseeds. What do you think of this mixture? thanks❤
@SugarMDs2 ай бұрын
Your mixture of sorghum flour, barley flour, and ground flaxseeds for making bread sounds like a great start for managing prediabetes! Sorghum and barley are whole grains with a lower glycemic index, which helps with blood sugar control. Ground flaxseeds provide healthy fats, fiber, and additional blood sugar regulation. Just ensure portion control, as the total carbohydrate content still matters. It's always a good idea to consult a healthcare provider or dietitian to fine-tune your diet.

Hi Dr .....is it possible if parents were insulin resistance or had problems at the time of trying to have kids both my parents had tummies when we were born. My mom almost had gestational diabetes with my younger brother. Both my younger brother and I have battled weight on off all our lives. Can insulin resistance be passed on? My mom's biological mom her mom had gestational diabetes with her last child and never recovered in her 40's ? I remember stories from my mom when she was babysat by her grandmother who had diabetes from gestational and she could barely watch her son or my mom as a baby as she had no strength. My father died age 55 uncontrolled diabetes for years led to brain cancer. My mom almost lost her April 2022 high blood sugar she was having times when she almost fainted from high blood sugar . No energy drinking tons of water.....peeing often. Neither of my parents cared for their health. I am caring for my health. I asked my dr to do the glucose tolerance test fast 8 hrs , have blood work done then drink a sugary drink they give u then have blood work done at 30,60,120 mins after drinking that sugary drink at the blood lab. I think I have had insulin resistance issues on off my life almost 40 YEARS old. Is diabetes heredity ? Yes I know about epigenetics and turning genes off thru proper diet I know you can reverse insulin resistances before it gets to diabetes. Which I am trying.

@SugarMDsАй бұрын
Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like you’ve been on quite a journey with your health, and it’s great to hear that you’re taking proactive steps now. To answer your question, yes, insulin resistance and diabetes can have a genetic component, but lifestyle choices play a significant role too. It sounds like you’re well aware of the importance of diet and lifestyle changes in managing and potentially reversing insulin resistance. If you’re concerned about your family history, discussing this with your doctor, as you’re doing, is a smart move. They can provide tailored advice based on your specific situation. Keep up the great work with your health journey, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have more questions or need support!

Thanks sugar MD. I have questions can you help, I have diabetes in 2023 January, i been cutting carbs and sweets foods, I am skinny type only 95 pounds, my body always like skinny, question, Can I have snacks healthy one in between meals? Am I allowed eat little snacks or fruits after dinner? Or just keep 3 meals, because I am skinny, I don’t need to watch over weight 😢, thanks dr 👨⚕️ hope you tell me if I m doing right thing, I still eat healthy snacks in between..
@SugarMDs2 ай бұрын
It's great that you're mindful of your diet! Since you're managing type 1 diabetes and are underweight, healthy snacks between meals may be fine, especially if you monitor your blood sugar levels. It's a good idea to consult with your doctor or a dietitian to ensure you're meeting your nutritional needs. Small portions of healthy snacks like fruits, nuts, or yogurt may be beneficial for keeping your energy up and blood sugar stable. Keep up the good work on watching your diet!

Fasting raises my blood sugar 😢
@SugarMDs2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing! Fasting can sometimes cause a rise in blood sugar levels due to the body releasing stored glucose (glycogen) to maintain energy. This is called the "dawn phenomenon" or a stress response. It’s best to discuss this with your healthcare provider to adjust your fasting routine or find alternatives that work better for your body. Keep tracking your blood sugar, and don’t get discouraged! 😊

Is it possible you can post New Studies made on Diabetes like 2024 results. I saw a video that stated that the main cause of diabetes is all coming down to BAD Bacteria in our gut. So looking like there might be a breakthrough soon. ???
@SugarMDs2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your insightful comment! There has been a lot of exciting research in recent years that suggests gut bacteria may play a significant role in metabolic health, including conditions like diabetes. While it’s still an emerging field, the connection between gut health and insulin sensitivity is gaining more attention. As for the specific studies you mentioned, I’m not sure if they’ve been shared here yet, but I’d recommend keeping an eye on the latest medical publications or speaking with a healthcare professional who may have more up-to-date information on these breakthroughs. It's an area that holds a lot of promise, and we're all hopeful for more discoveries soon! Feel free to share any other interesting findings you come across-this is a fascinating topic! 😊

My blood sugar is better if I eat bacon and eggs in the morning seems like fat greasy bacon keeps my sugar low for a few hours
@SugarMDs2 ай бұрын
It's interesting to hear that your blood sugar stays stable after eating bacon and eggs in the morning. High-fat, low-carb meals like that can slow down the absorption of carbohydrates and prevent spikes in blood sugar. The fat in foods like bacon helps to provide sustained energy, which might explain why your sugar stays lower for a few hours after eating them. However, it’s always good to balance meals with other nutrients like fiber and protein to ensure long-term health. If this works well for you, that's great-just be mindful of overall dietary balance. Keep listening to your body, and if you have more insights or questions, feel free to share!
@Hertz2laugh2 ай бұрын
Yes, when you eat foods that don't have sugar in them, your blood sugar levels will be good. And when you eat foods with sugars in them, your blood sugar levels will be worse.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It sounds really frustrating to deal with changes in your metabolism and weight after fasting. Everyone’s body can react differently to fasting, and what works at first might not always continue in the same way. It could be helpful to speak with a healthcare professional to explore other options that might suit your body better. Don't be discouraged-there are often ways to adjust and get back on track! Feel free to keep sharing your journey, and hopefully, others in the community can offer some support and advice as well! 😊

I’m sorry to hear that your health won’t permit walking anymore. It’s understandable how challenging that can be, especially when it was a part of your routine. There might be other forms of low-impact movement that could work for you, depending on your condition-like chair exercises or gentle stretches. It could be worth discussing with your healthcare provider to find something that fits your needs. Take it one step at a time, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support.
