You could try dual design, where the top 1% of players are balanced around everyone taking high skill floor options, and the other 99% of the game is balanced around low skill ceiling options. That way you'd have a pool of players who have mastered the most difficult but also most effective paths to victory, but also most players who aren't at that level can still engage with the game in a way that doesn't disrupt the competitive ecosystem.

@AtticusKarpenter2 ай бұрын
This is why paid ads is just a bad concept. Products shouldn't differentiate to "big/mainstream/AAA" and "obscure" just because of willingness of big company to waste on the ad campaign enormous pile of money, sometimes equal to the amount of money used to make product itself. When all AAA studies struggled for a year and stop constant flood of advertisement for their shitty games, people discovered and hyped so, so much little genius indie games. This is how fair, competitive market looks, when you have to make your game famous among people by making it good and unique, not by hiring army of ad managers. Modern advertisement business overdone overall, and more strict norms could make it more reasonable, so we can again look at the ad to learn about products instead of just glossing over them, filtering out as info noise and fighting them with adblock because its just SO many of it, and it all so stupid and false

Ah, Godsworn. I've loved what there is so far of the campaign, and had some fun with skirmish (And I'm not usually a skirmish fan.) For a game with 2 developers it's insanely good. The worker limit: It's based on the population limit setting, so if you're a standard 100 pop game, it's always 32, and then it's higher in higher pop games and lower in lower pop limit games. There are a few exceptions, though - Saule has an ability that gives a building a permanent extra worker that's attached to it and doesn't take up pop cap, while Ausrine has a faith building that doesn't need workers to operate. (Having said that, there definitely are still some rough edges.)

Stormgate doesn't seem terrible to me (I used to play SC/SC2 a LONG time ago but they quickly both became spectator sports for me) - but it's just not great to watch really, same for the other one (with kinda quick build units - and 10 minutes of play?) forget the name though. I guess I can't really whinge from a gameplay point of view - so my angle is usually how good it is as a spectator sport now - and I've yet to see anything come close to them so far - I just hope I do as it seems SC is being pretty much dumped now. This one does look pretty cool offhand.
@davidmoak12193 ай бұрын
SC2 is completely dumped, reigns handed off to community for pvp for patches and no further pve content will ever be released. Thankfully there's still the SC2 editor and it's quite a robust tool for making unique stuff. Just played Warcraft 3 undead/nigth elf campaigns... on Starcraft 2. It's literally 11/10, what Warcraft 3 should have been remade as. My only complaint is it has no custom/skirmish mode but other than that, literal perfection. Blizzard can't make good games anymore anyways nor can they be trusted with any money. That money is going to hire some fucky focus group that decides how you play a game instead of real gamers designing games. Then shareholders and investors are going to veto anything that sounds fun and doesn't make a good profit. That's a model for making money, not a model for making a good game.

My problem with the wc3 model of camps/creep that this game follows (this does look a bit better to me though) is that they provide no impetus for players to clear them until after-the-fact. The games don't guide you into it, they just expects you to know to do it. Always feels like a bunch of dudes just chilling and I'm supposed to go kill them for some reason I don't understand? If they were doing something bad, and I were prompted to stop them, it might feel a lot more natural to want to go clear them out. DOTA fixed this instantly by making enemy creep march toward you. Why aren't RTS games getting more creative with this?
@aubreyjesseau62322 ай бұрын
Is the impetus to level your hero not enough? This is foundational to WC3. The entire game revolves around the creep camps you take or allow your opponent to take. You can instantly choose to creep yourself or go harass your opponent. You can be passive or greedy with the creeps you take or don’t take. You might get lucky or get punished. At least in online play, the entire game revolves around creeping and creates an absolutely brilliant dynamic.
@dolphincup2 ай бұрын
@aubreyjesseau6232 I'm not saying that the camps aren't gameplay relevant. I'm saying that for first-time players, there's no game mechanic that tells you to clear the first camp for the first time. For example, if there were piles of treasure scattered around the map, it would be clear and obvious for players that they should collect it. Creep is similar in functionality to treasure but doesn't have the same built-in intuition. It might sound silly, but the lack of impetus makes way for uncertain optimality. Until you've watched pro-level players who have spent years figuring it out, you'll likely never creep optimally or even close to optimally. One could argue that this "open-endedness" provides strategic diversity, but constraints are necessary for players to understand the strategic space.

Honestly, seeing how that game ended makes me feel like the lategame will be kind of non-existent in this game - with how quickly the shrine died, combined with the fact that your hero could teleport an army on top of the shrine if you get *any* unit to have vision over the shrine would mean that you can just instantly end the game at almost any moment if any units get through.. and it feels like it would be realistically impossible to prevent that from happening, so most games probably just end abruptly if they make it to that stage of the game. Granted you already had a really big lead over the opponent so it's not really that fair of an example, but it's not like it was a build that was optimized for rushing the shrine down like that either.

I am someone who played the multi-player and can answer some of it. Yes, this hero in particular was a bit of a problem in 2v2, in 1v1 it was fine, as getting to level 7 is very hard, AI feeds you units, but players don't. Still, while playing, players started to put different in game win condition "Kill hero and shrine at the same time " and it fixed the problem.

The gameplay is quite funny but i pref storm gate to this in pvp especially because of the superior controls. Godsworn has some nice ideas regarding controls but stormgate controls (+ auto hot key units) are awswome after a few games getting used to them. The campain of Godsworn is actually better then stormgate, no offense frost giant but you should fokus on pvp for now a low budget campain doesnt suite you well :D

Yeah, well the kicker here is that it's not free to play, like some of these other titles. And not 10$ either. Not sure how many will try it out.

This game gas more "soul" and "indentity" than Stormgate. SG feels too generic, too plastic, too "Toys Rus". Seems targeted to 3 years old as first RTS.

wow this looks like fantasy Battle Realms to me, if it can play on a potato PC, its automatically better than SG

stormgate lore and story just feels like they are doing it because its what you do and they just want to make a good esport style rts. its understandable and I'm still hopeful it will be good. I feel like what they have is really great -- if it were beta but we are in EA and there are fundamental flaws. I want to ignore them and hope it improves but they better get on the polish of a lot of things sooner rather than later. There are MASSIVE coop bugs that literally brick the game and make your units do 0 damage and take 0 damage. we can all type in chat but nothing happens other than moving and attack animations. It's a big problem. This game seems like those issue were more of a priority before things like late game tech. I would rather have a smooth feel and bare bones tech than the other way around. SC2 isn't the best RTS I'm in terms of units or dynamics I really prefer WC3 but WC3 unit control makes me tilt like no other. Stormgate has everything I wanted from WC3 in SC2 however it hasn't been implemented well as of yet with larger armies. Here is to optimism. I hope both these games flourish in their respective scenes.

No, just focused on the looks before gameplay to get some early good reviews. Hare vs the tortoise and all that.
