One of the things I felt like the later seasons of House missed were those scenes where House rummages through all his medical books and encyclopedias. I always felt like the reason why he could just pull random diseases out of his ass was because he had such an encyclopedic memory of diseases from memorizing all of his medical journals.
@jijonbreaker5 ай бұрын
I take issue with Erdheim Chester being the one diagnosis that is criticized. The episode makes a point that he had a previous patient where he eventually figured out that might have been the problem, but could never prove it. So, when the same case pops up, he's already familiar with it, despite everybody else not believing him at all. That is one of the few times it's justified that he would be familiar with it.

When the writing was good it was STELLAR. When it was bad, it was pretty darn bad. I almost rated it a little higher, but am happy with where it's at. Totally get your POV though
@soroushfazel885110 ай бұрын
I would say that up to the Mayfield episodes the writing was spot on. The way that each charactor, especially House grew as the story progresses, it was like slowly getting different pieces of a perfect puzzle. It did deteriorate a little after that. With respect to House going back to his growth in later seasons, I think that's in line with show's motto that people don't change or rarely change. It's my favorite show; So I'm probably biased.@@somewhereinthemiddle6534

Just on your proposed "Season 8". I kind of like the fact there isn't a "happily ever after" ending. Not every story needs one, and I don't think the story should have tried to have been about the relationship between Cuddy and House. Romantic love isn't going to fix everything magically by itself, even though Cuddy genuinely (and quite annoyingly) thought it would, and I think House and Wilson's struggle was much more engaging and emotional than anything Cuddy and House could have been.
@somewhereinthemiddle6534 Жыл бұрын
Very well put. The journey Wilson and House embark on in season 8 is more emotional and satisfying than any type of relationship him and Cuddy ever could have had. I also 100% agree with your happily ever after comment. Not all stories need them, and House being one of them is super appropriate. Great comments!
@christophervalencia5919 Жыл бұрын
COMPLETELY AGREE, IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR AGES. Season 8 is perfect. House doesnt deserve a traditional happy ending. Hes a narcissist. Hes a terrible person throughout the show. So him giving up his life to make his best friends last days worth living, is the perfect send off. It's not for house. It's for Wilson. It's so perfect and real
@messinalyle40304 ай бұрын
Honestly, my personal reason for preferring Season 8 as it was to the hypothetical Huddy white picket fence conclusion is that yet another heteronormative ending would be a big yawn. Besides, House *did* commit to another human being at the end--Wilson, regardless of whether their relationship was completely platonic or romantic as it was rumored to be. Wilson's impending death also added more of a special poignancy.

Here for part three. Again, excellent work here. ❤
@VioBlack7711 ай бұрын
I just listened to all 3 parts! First and foremost, House is a chronic pain patient who is DEPENDENT on pain medication! Just like a diabetic is dependent on insulin! In the civilized world, chronic pain is a valid illness and the patients are entitled to get the pain medication that helps them the best for pain relief. If this medication is a narcotic then so be it. To call chronic pain patients addicts just because their bodies might get used to the medication and displays withdrawal symptoms if suddenly cut off the necessary medication, is disrespectful towards them. Does nowadays almost nobody have empathy towards chronic pain patients anymore? Yes! House didn't deserve Cuddy! He deserves someone much better than Cuddy! Someone who accepts him for who he is and doesn't want to change him. House can be the best friend someone can have. We could see this with the things he did for others and especially for Wilson. Cuddy doesn't love! She sucks somebody dry until he has nothing left to give and then lets him fall down like a hot potato. Cuddy was stupid for breaking up with House. Given the reasons for why she broke up with House already existed before, she never ever should have started a relationship with him in the first place. Making Cuddy to House's love interest was the biggest mistake the show runners did. By the way, Huddy was over forever after Bombshells regardless if L.E. stayed on the show or not. David Shore said so in an interview. Also that we got more Huddy than he originally planned to do. The show never was about House and Cuddy getting together and living together happily ever after that. It's a character study about House and how he deals with certain situations. And originally, Cameron was supposed to end up with House in a romantic relationship. But Hugh Laurie developed fatherly feelings towards Jennifer Morrison and therefore deemed it as inappropriate to shoot romantic scenes with her. That's why Hugh Laurie asked David Shore to discontinue the Hameron storyline during the second half of season 3. Hugh Laurie said so in a radio interview that aired about the time as the second half of season 3 aired on FOX for the very first time. Later, David Shore confirmed that in a different interview. Huddy stems from Lisa Edelstein's input and continuous lobbying for it. During the transition time from season 1 to 2, David Shore wanted to enhance Cuddy's character and he inserted the House/Cuddy Michigan background story that Lisa Edelstein presented to him.

You make a important point about the distinction between addiction and dependency. It is something that even many professionals fail to take into account. I work in the addiction field and see it not being taken into consideration. However with the character I am not sure either way, I can go either way at times. House does take medication to negate negative emotions. Yet plenty of people cam function well whilst on various substances. I view it more in terms of quality of life than whether a person takes aa substance.
@VioBlack772 ай бұрын
@@seamusodowd1556 It vexes me when people blame House for taking an additional Vicodin pill for emotional support ever now and then when there are lots of people who take pills for mental illnesses who don't get blamed for doing so! Blaming House for taking Vicodin for whatever reason is cruel and ableist! By the way, emotional pain can make pre-existing physical chronic pain worse! I think that people who blame House for taking Vicodin should not receive any kind of treatment when they are ill themselves!

I loved the series of reviews and you have gained a subscriber. I will say I disagree with the writing because I think in terms of the quips and interactions he has in every episode perfectly compliments Laurie’s portrayal and there are lines in it that genuinely make me laugh out loud before then making me cry. I don't think I've thought of or heard of Becker in like 15 years. For me, that was the show that came on before Steve Wilkos at like 11pm lol. I think if I were to make any type of comparison, Becker is what would happen if you took House and dropped him in a light-hearted comedy in that classic sitcom setting. And of course, making it a little more PG. Becker and House are both good at what they do but don't take anything seriously - except when it's needed. I should totalllly make a video talking about all the doctors on TV. Scrubs, Becker, House, the Resident, Grey's, ER, Good Doctor - and directly compare them all in regards to expertise, intelligence, bedside manner, experience. I HATED seasons 7-8. ALL that character growth squandered to make House regress to his douchebag self. Season 8 I particularly didn't like for many reasons, I know the show got more & more outlandish as it went on but Season 8 was ridiculously stupid for many reasons, My biggest problem was with that Final episode. How the hell did House get out of the building mere seconds before the explosion? He has a messed up leg which will have been even more messed up him falling through one floor to the other 15-20 feet below & we're expected to believe he miraculously made it out the back of the building unscathed? I did for the longest time try to believe it was Wilson's or House's dying hallucination but then we're further insulted by expecting to believe House now having faked his death managed to put his ID badge under Foreman's wobbly table without ANYONE recognizing him? Just no!

There's a lot wrong with season 8, but him getting out of that burning building and then going "switched the dental records" was abhorrent writing. Like OH ok buddy, didn't know it was that easy 🤣🤣
@noahdude628 Жыл бұрын
While I think there was some problems with season 7-8, I think hating on it that much is a bit unfair. Yes, the ending had some problems, but House regressing and the show growing more outlandish made sense when you think about it. House was finally losing it, as we see from the aesthetic of the show also growing more monotone. We were told and shown countless times how he had been forced to or tried to change yet always ended up back where he was. We're told he's the same as he was before he lost the ability to walk without a cane. That's because House ultimately doesn't really change, his choice is to not.

The measures you used at the ending were pretty irrelevant. For example the popularity. No matter how popular the character is, that doesn't make it either good or bad. Like Jon snow is very popular, does that make him a good character? No. And the writing quality: 4/10!! You really need to rethink about this.
