I have osteoarthritis in my right hip that started from a serious horseback riding accident that occurred 20 years ago. I was post-partum at the time and apparently was not completely recovered from childbirth when I was thrown from a horse and landed on my hip. I didn't break any bones, but sustained a lot of damage to the cartilage and connective tissue in the hip. In the last few years (menopause?) my hip pain has gotten a lot worse. And even though I've long been a low carb/intermittent fasting eater, with chronic pain, I've found my cravings for carbs and sweets really increase. It's a vicious cycle: carbs increase pain and pain increases your cravings for carbs. In the last couple of years I've put on about 30 lbs. A couple weeks ago I started taking berberine. I noticed that my sugar cravings have reduced significantly and it's a lot easier for me to avoid high-carb foods. It might be psychosomatic -- but I'll take it! In any case, I'm hoping that if I lose a few lbs and reduce my insulin levels my hip pain will decrease.

This was so great! 💖 I really like both of you stating that it's easy to become overwhelmed with all the changes one may need to make to become healthier both physically, mentally and internally! As someone who was just that, overwhelmed, by starting with one thing...one change...at a time made all the difference. I retired early from a stressful job, I quit alcohol and started IF. This got me hooked on further researching my own health status and implementing better protocols with respect to nutrition, supplementation, sleep, my Circadian Rhythm and of course movement and exercise. It's a slow process but so worth it. And I'm not perfect...my life isn't perfect...but even baby steps will move you forward. Omas got this 💪😊 Thank you for this❤

Great information! I was wondering where pulses sit, like beans, lentils etc. I grew up in South America and our lifestyle included having a light breakfast, big lunch, light dinner. Lunch was the most important meal of the day, so much so that we went home to have a home cooked meal. It’s a pity that even in countries like Spain, the lunch meal, followed by the siesta is being fazed out. It’s a much healthier way of living but due to fast pace our societies are going we are paying for it with our health.. We are so quick at dismissing everything that is old …that is where the wisdom is. The Mediterranean diet is a another good example, these peoples have been eating and combining foods in the way you recommend for a long time. Thank you for the thorough information.

Great talk on insulin resistance, diet, and weight loss. Curious to know if this information applies to all age groups. I didn't hear a lot about how insulin directly affects osteoarthritis as a disease. Or was this mainly about reducing weight to help joint pain? Thanks!

Patti I think that would be a balancing act for you as an individual. If you find it's helping with your pain a lot, it may be worth the tradeoff. There are so many areas of your lifestyle you can optimize to lower blood sugar, not just this supplement. Hope this helps :)

So what is a low insulin lifestyle... How the hell do we do it? Lots of talk and irritating arm movements but no detail as to what you actually eat or avoid. Surely I can't be the only viewer left feeling short changed? Please follow up with some concrete suggestions. Thank you.

Maybe consider beginning by cutting out sugar, white flour, corn, ultra processed foods, alcohol, and vegetable oils. They are all inflammatory and most raise your blood sugar. Replace them with berries, cherries, salmon, greens, broccoli, nuts, green tea, ginger, and turmeric because these foods fight inflammation. Inflammation is behind a lot of the arthritis pain flare-ups. You can also look up foods that cause inflammation and those that raise blood sugar levels.
