This new third-party controller has a terrible name but checks nearly every box for me: it plays Switch, PC, and mobile no worries, works on Batocera and EmuELEC without a hitch, has hall-sensor analog inputs for both the thumbsticks and triggers (no drift!), and works both wired and wirelessly. So at $70 (with a $5 coupon on Amazon), could this replace the various controllers I use right now?

I love the controller but there IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DPAD You cannot hold left or right while pressing A+B multiple times because it DEREGISTERES THE DPAD INPUT FOR A MILLISECOND this is an issue for 2d platformers or games like megaman or castlevania. You will jump in place at random times instead of jumping left or right. Weirdly though it doesn't happen when you hold up or down. If any other KKpro2 users can test this out I'd be greatful. I've bought 3 controllers and all 3 were like this from different vendors even after the firmware update.

@@Savaril The dpad on the xbox series controller is criminally underrated. It is perfect for 2d platformers, shoot em ups, and fighting games. It is extremely tactile and accurate. It barely registers any diagonal misinputs while moving left and right consecutively, compared to other retro styled dpads I've used (8bitdo controllers mostly, those are notorious for unintentional diagonal inputs). And yes, I can understand that the "clickiness" can be a turn off for some, but it can get easier to ignore the more you use it. People use mechanical keyboards and arcade sticks that are just as clicky, so I don't see why the xbox dpad being clicky is that much of a nuisance.

The analog sticks are in fact swappable; GuliKit makes a set of alternative sticks (short, medium, and long) available for purchase that's compatible with this controller (I believe it was designed for the predecessor controller but the sticks still work fine with this one). Just pull them off (exposing a small hex post) and push the new ones on. The set that I bought actually has a sightly grippier cross-knurled pattern on them vs the ring texture on the stock sticks, so that might resolve your complaint about the grip too. The stock/included sticks are the "short" versions, so you can get options if you want your analog sticks longer than stock, but they can't go any shorter without colliding with the housing. Mine also came with an alternative set of ABXY buttons and a puller to swap them out if you prefer the Xbox-style layout, and the firmware lets you swap between the two mappings as you showed in the video. I did have one quality control issue of a small bit of plastic flashing being left on one of the analog triggers that caused it to stick sometimes, but the controller is easy to open up and a couple minutes with a small file cleaned that up and I have had no problems since. Overall, the controller has otherwise been great and it's very refreshing to have a basically "universal" controller that works with all the devices and systems I'd like to pair it with, no fuss.

Always shocks me to see how good the Forza edition series controller looks in videos, I'm so glad I have it. It just fits my hands right and the sports leather grips are actually really nice. It might be less grippy than the regular spiky ones but my sweaty ass hands didn't have an issue and this is probably more comfortable. I'm really in love with this thing, even the fact you can remove the side plates without tools is amazing since I like to clean the seams often (sweaty ass hands). Love that it works on both replaceable lithium ion and AA's as well as just good old wired. If they ever make this style of grip again or make it accessible through the custom controller site they have, I would love to get an other and would recommend you pick one up if you can. Recently started playing Breath of the Wild again on my PC and after a while I had to which off of my Switch Pro Controller because my hands cramped. There's nothing for my ring finger to rest on. It's still my favorite way to play Switch games since HD rumble, motion control and amiibos are gimmicks I enjoy, but the old trusty wired Xbox 360 controller I've used since I was a kid has been retired. Never thought I'd see the day, especially since I've started getting some major wrist pain when playing mouse and keyboard or playing melee with my GameCube controller. The D pad does kinda suck for platformers or 2D games, I'll give you that much but I love it for menu navigation and it won't stop me from trying to play Cuphead on it. (Also coming from a 360 controller the D-Pad is nothing to complain about)

I'm going to pick this up simply to support the guys that made this. Stick drift is such a massive e-waste problem, as well as a major consumer problem in general. It seems insane that a third party has had to fix this with tech that has been usable since the Saturn/Dreamcast (and even earlier really). I'd probably agree that I wouldn't use it for retro game due to the dpad placement, but I can always use something like an 8-bit do controller for that instead. If those sticks drift, it would matter less since I'd be using them for d-pad centric games. Would definitely love to see them incorporate the suggestions that you made in a future iteration, but for now, this seems like the best controller for me. Thanks for the review!

I will totally get one of the when they come out with and Xbox series compatible one. So sick of stick drift gone through too many controllers. I do have Odin pro on the way, someday so will keep this in mind if I find myself wanting to play of it off the tv.

Lot of amazon reviews mention poor quality control. The rubbery back doesn't look like something I'd like either. Thumbsticks are interesting though.

FYI - This controller has NFC support on switch as too! It also remembers 1 wireless connection for each of the four modes, so you can switch between 4 different devices (android & ios share a mode/connection) without repairing! I absolutely LOVE this controller!! Thanks for bringing more attention to it!

I've had a wired 360 controller i bought for pc for about 10 years and it's just now starting to get stick drift. If this controller has that sort of build quality and durability, i'd be interested.

What is needed to add on the wishlist for me is the paddle buttons on the back and accessibility to the battery if it no longer charges.

Upgrading from a power a controller fro my PC and this controll does have an option to pay a few more bucks and it comes with Xbox styled buttons to switch out. Once I saw that I was really sold on it so I'm gonna order me one today.

I actually got this for Christmas and I loved using it when I played my switch or pc games, but it has grown to be a smudge magnet even though I wiped it down fairly often and the right trigger has gotten loose and doesn’t feel nearly as smooth as it should(I think something broke even though I don’t press on it any differently than the other). I hope I can get it fixed but if not I’ll likely just get an 8bitdo controller

I personally would like to see back paddles similar to the Xbox Elite Series 2 or the Steam Deck on the next version of this controller. If that were the case this would be my go to controller for literally everything.

I wish we could just get the 8bitdo SN30 Pro with the ability to wake the switch up remotely. I much prefer the playstation parallel thumbstick design of that controller because it makes the D-Pad line up with the buttons for more comfortable retro gaming.

What sold me on this controller, beside the Hall Sensors was the fact that it is the only third party Switch controller (that I've found) that supports Amiibos. That is so rare in my experience.

I like the review.. I've read a lot of users have issues with the face buttons sticking on this controller though and Gulikit seems to have quality control issues also according to users. You like using controllers with cords, are you a 1980s caveman? Just joking, your videos are always well done, keep up the good work.

I just got this and love everything about it except the lack of grip paddles. I really wish that was standard. I play PC games that often require more than the standard button and having shift buttons often really matter. It is doable with rewasd, but the 8bitdo pro controller has the same gulikit sticks and paddles AND included software.

I had two of these a while back and they're nice but there needs to be some better QC on them. The first one I got had an issue where the analog range was broken for one of the triggers. The full movement of the trigger would barely move the axis bar in windows' gamepad configuration. The second one I had would constantly disconnect from bluetooth. It's also a tad annoying that the gyro can really only work in switch mode which doesn't allow analog triggers but that's not so bad. I really wish Microsoft would stop being stupid and add gyro into xinput. Once QC issues are fixed they'll be great. Oh yeah, trying to update the firmware on these is a nightmare too. If we were going to talk about wish list options I'd ask for a physical switch that can limit the travel of the triggers like on the Xbox One Elite and grip buttons like on the steam controller / steam deck that are independent buttons on PC and not just mirroring the face buttons.

I just got this controller and I really got to say When finding a Gyro Nintendo Switch pro with Analog Triggers I jumped for it right away!!. I am an (All Out Racing Gamer!).. Mx-Bikes really is a sensitive throttle game and Forza Horizon 4 and 5 racing game. Took me a while to find where the APG button is. I seen it's the vary bottom button that looks like Minimize and Maximize description. And I thought the Windows Mode was the first lit, light up mode light with the D under the description but I found out it's the second to last (3rd), The one next to last. When I seen under my windows 11, under Devices and Printers, it comes up as Xbox 360 Controller and Under it's properties ..When I seen the Slider Triger bars I was happy. I have not tried Mx-Bikes yet because that game really is a vary sensitive Throttle Trigger and Tires can spin a lot in Forza Horizon 4 and 5 game.
