What a difference it makes. I'm glad i got it. Took a bit of getting used to. I've got 14 clicks on mine. So before the damper I went over a dipped drain, scary. With the damper, I've come across bumps and dips and no problems. The two grub screws on the base of the stem (where rugged clamp is) one of them stripped, so I drilled the holes to M8 and put on bigger grubs. Much better..Thanks for this video!!

Absolutely THE video I was looking for! Your explanation of caster was great! I recently received my new Varla Eagle One which appears to me to simply be a rebranded 10x. One of the first things I noticed (which you also addressed), was my instinctual impulse to take my hands of the bars to “rest” as I’ve down for forty years of bike riding, but….thankfully my higher instincts to stay living, or at least out of the hospital, prevailed. I’m definitely ordering one of these dampers. Near as I can tell it will take about a month for it to be delivered here to Colorado in the States. Hopefully I will still be alive. ;-) Thanks for this video which very perfectly answered the questions I had!

My Bronco Xtreme comes with a damper. It was missing from mine when it arrived. Of course I rode it while it was being shipped. Above 40mph it has some wobble. After the damper was installed it made a world of difference. Above 50mph it still feels solid and secure. Recommended for those that will fide their fast scooters fast.

I was considering steering damper too, also for zero 10x. However I think I adjusted and I feel fully in control at high speeds. What I do is to try shift most of the weight to the back leg holding the handlebar very lightly. The front wheel almost never attempts to wobble. I feel that having a lot of weight at back of scooter affects the virtual caster but happy to be corrected. I had scooter for 8 months and done 1600 miles without damper.
@MarksElectricLife
@MarksElectricLife 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Vlad, that's really interesting ! Could be a cheaper fix. Maybe having less weight over the front wheel allows it to float over ruts instead of hitting them hard. I use that technique whenever I see an obvious hole or bump that I cannot avoid. Of course it doesn't work when you are braking since all the weight is naturally transferred over the front wheel. Stay safe ! Mark.

Good video. Scooter trail (or the lack of it) is not well understood. The other factor that impacts on the amount of front wheel trail on the 10X (and scooter stability) is the angle of the swing arm. As the front end sags under load, the trail reduces to the point it becomes 'lead' - resulting in an even twitchier front end. I've raised the ride height to drop the swing arm as much as practical to give the greatest amount of trail (effectively dropped the axle by 30mm). I've also fitted a long stroke damper (facing backwards) which gives full steering angle. Much better for maneuvering. I've also fitted DNM air shocks front and back, which work well. 1200kms with this setup so far. All good.

Hi again mate, I've started having issues with the damper. At the front there's that small screw that apparently just screws in to keep the bracket from going up and down when you turn the handlebars, but the screw has eaten away at the metal of the steering stem and now when I turn the handlebars the damper bracket slips up and down. I tried tightening that little screw but now the head is stripped and the allan key just turns around in it. Have you had a similar issue? Any suggestions? Should I just replace the screw with a new one, maybe that will fix it? UPDATE: Ignore that, I just found a longer, stronger screw with a proper head that will hold the bracket in place for aeons. But let that serve as a warning to anyone else who bought the type of damper that has that screw in the front of the bracket, upgrade the screw immediately!

My damper finally arrived but I'm having trouble attaching the neck part to the stem, the screws seem to be too long. I've just read a few people talking about some 'stem screws' that need to be removed so these screws will fit. Any idea about that and how to remove them?
@MarksElectricLife
@MarksElectricLife 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Damez! Yeah, that's correct. There will be two set screws installed by the factory that need to be removed first. You just need to get the right size Allen key to engage in the head of these screws. I think it is about a 3mm key that you need. When you insert the key into the hole you will be able to feel it engage in the head of the bolt, which is well down inside the hole. On my scooter they were glued with thread locker so it takes a bit of force to unscrew them (but not excessive). Hope this helps. Let me know how you go? Mark.

I just got my damper kit. What is the purpose of the two grub screws that need to be removed for the front clamp at front of stem for? Reason I ask, is because the pitches on the front clamp are misaligned Grrrrrr! I have one long screw and one short screw. I may need to use extra washers for the extra length of the long screw not going in fully. But those two grub screws... What do they secure?
@MarksElectricLife
@MarksElectricLife 3 жыл бұрын
Hi JC, have you watched the installation video (link in my description of this video) ? The bracket that you attach to the bottom of the stem is held in place by two equal length screws that have a normal hex head on them (not grub screws). From memory they are about 5mm diameter and 15-20mm long. But before you can insert these screws you need to remove the two grub screws that are installed by the factory into the holes on each opposite sides of the stem. I hope this makes sense but it's hard to know without seeing what you are seeing. Good luck man !

@@MarksElectricLife The grub screws I'm talking of, are what is already in the stem. I removed them, then used the screws provided. I don't have same kit as you unfortunately. Just wondering what these two grub screws tighten on to (safety question) prior to installing the kit. The kit I have is not good at all. As I was saying the pitch on that half circle clamp is awful. I've actually sheared one of the screws. Will need to drill it out. Another thing I've noticed is the whole steering is now limited. Won't know until its properly installed what a difference this will make. I've gotten used to being able to manouvre the whole wheel when in tight spaces and taking out of house for example.

@@jasecee8992 Ok, so they are no longer required as the two screws that came with the kit serve the same purpose. They do two things. Firstly they hold the bracket to the bottom of the stem. Secondly, they hold the swing arm in the correct orientation to the stem (that is what the removed grub screws were doing).

Am I right in guessing this is not necessary for the 11X which has 11" Wheels?
@MarksElectricLife
@MarksElectricLife 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, I have never ridden the 11X so can't really say whether it suffers from the same wobble. I would make these observations looking at a photo of the 11X. Firstly, it will handle bumps and uneven surfaces better with the larger wheel. It should also provide more gyro force to help stay on track. It appears to have slightly more caster/trail than the 10X but that could just be the angle at which the photo is taken. If it does then this would also help with stability. I'm not sure how much difference the dual forks will make because, unlike the Wolf Warrior, the 10X has a rather strange design, where the forks end at a yolk, which is then linked at a single point of connection to the swing arm. It seems to me that this would defeat the advantage of having dual forks - i.e. steering force applied at two points, each end of the axle. It is my belief that this is what makes the WW feel more stable on rough surfaces, because you have a mechanical advantage by applying the force from your arms to two points several inches away from the centre of the wheel (or point of disturbance). On any scooter with a single swing arm you are only applying force at one point, roughly in the middle of the wheel. Maybe there is someone with more engineering knowledge who can add to this comments. Have a great day ! Mark.
