4YEO was not a hardcore rap album. He went hard on Immortal, which was I think was incredible. The album in my opinion was brilliant. It was sentimental and it had a message. There was a consistent narrative and a strong message, and everything tied in together and was rounded off with the titular song which I believe was a masterpiece. It was not about fire bars, so you didn't get that much of it. The people who say it was boring don't appreciate it's message or lyricism, or it's musical complexity. Perhaps it's different for me as someone who is not American, but this album really communicated a message to me that I don't hear often and it did that brilliantly.

Yeah it was about his friend who was killed. There was some anger but mostly introspection and sentimentality. Don't understand why people complained that he didn't go hard.

Bruh shut the fuck up acting like that ever mattered the Wu Tang Clan, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, and Vanilla Ice all went platinum without features too. The idea of going platinum without features sounds impressive to the average person but its not impressive at all lol. sales purely come from having a huge fanbase, which is why Kendrick and Cole can sell 300k+ without ever having a top 10 hit. having features on your album wouldn’t give you more than like 10k in additional album sales. FHD wouldve sold exactly the same amount if it had features on it and if Drake, Kendrick, Kanye etc. made featureless albums they would still go platinum

I was disappointed by FYEO, ONLY because he’s proved he can be such a hype beast. Looking For Trouble, Rise and Shine, Back To The Topic, etc. He used to spit like no one’s business and I completely agree with Budden that he became an amazing artist but stopped hitting the mic as hard. I want his next album to shake the game because I know it 100% can if he wants it to. He needs to remind everyone how dope he really is.

shortbread1818 I respect what you mean, but I was wondering if you understood the story of FYEO. its not a Cole story but his friend's story, And I understand it was not no FHD or his mixtapes but it was able to shake up anyone with an understanding soul of the ghetto and how it is to fight for your life ... js
@shortbread1818
@shortbread1818 7 жыл бұрын
I understood the story and that it wasn't about Cole himself, but that's not what I was directly commenting on above. FYEO is great in it's own right and the story does make for great deliberation but I was talking in terms of lyricism and display of skill. People have seem to forgotten how talented J. Cole is and that's more what I was getting at... js

Joe was insightful on his answer. I actually agree with him for once, to an extent though. He said, "Cole hasn't been the same rapper since his mixtapes but he has become a better artist." I agree with that part to an extent. Revenge of the dreamers, Night Job, False Prophets, Everybody Dies, Knock The Hustle, Jermaine's interlude, Legendary, Come Through and Chill, Children of men, etc. These are tracks that he has came out with or been featured on since his early mixtapes. He goes hard on them. And I haven't even mentioned songs off of his albums. This is where I disagree with Joe. Joe also said, "Cole can always rap hard, but if he isn't in the mood then you get projects like For Your Eyez Only", well I think that project specifcially is where Cole shows another side of him. But overall I am excited for this new track

mocha papi Big Sean is in no way ahead of drake and if you think he writes everything himself too, then you are greatly mistaken, my man. Just check out the credits on “Bounce Back”; he had like 5 other people writing with him - and most people in the industry do have what is called co-writers. That doesn’t make Drake any leas great in what he has achieved. Look at his numbers. Look at his discography. Look at his impact. Big Sean is in NO way better than drake, lyrically, sales-wise, quality-wise, none of that.
@miguelhendrix3516
@miguelhendrix3516 7 жыл бұрын
Matteo C Taddei I disagree completely ik Sean had ppl write the HOOK on bounce back but no ones helps him with his bars I'm talking bars period and flow Sean bodies drake drake even admitted he took big Sean flow and used it a few times he used it on forever plus drake has reference tracks made for him and all types of shit and drake has fallen off bar wise despite double or nothing Sean's getting better
@chaiwattaddei
@chaiwattaddei 7 жыл бұрын
mocha papi Sean is definitely getting better, no doubt, I’ll give you that - both Dark Sky Paradise and I Decided were great, but his lyrical content on Double or Nothing was just not adequate to me - at least not as good as Drake. And whether he has fallen off I think depends on perspective. He has chosen to create music in other genres recently (primarily R&B, Dancehall, pop) but does that mean he has fallen off as a rapper? He is still the biggest artist in the world and his numbers back that up. So despite the fact that he has stolen a flow a couple of times, I just do not see how he is not greater than Sean. But I do understand and respect your viewpoint. Sean is getting better. Drake’s rhymes aren’t what they have been. But I still feel like he is both the better artist AND the better rapper. Top 5, though, I might give him that, too.
