I was on office worker in a small privately-owned medical clinic for a while back in 2009-10. One day my boss (the owner, office manager, accountant, medical coder & biller) handed me a stack of charts and the ICD book and told me to find the right numbers for what was in the charts. I loved it! She'd have me do that every now and then when she was falling behind on it. I thought it was just general paperwork. I wish I had realized I could have a job doing just that!

Diving in to the medical field as a complete beginner and taking a course on this while working full time and it’s scary and feels sooooo overwhelming at the age of 42. But I am hoping with your videos I can do this.

I am currently working on my credential through aapc. I personally am finding all of the rules to coding extremely overwhelming. I am doing it on my own. It just seems in this day and age that there must be a more efficient and streamlined way of coding. Software perhaps.
@jizzle20366 ай бұрын
I am doing the same exact thing. I have been struggling. Im aware that there are software programs being used for professional coding, but we have to learn how to actually get to the correct code. And i desperately want a career that i am proud of. I was doing well in the beginning. Mind you i started LAST YEAR. im wondering if i should just give up....

@@jizzle2036 I feel this! I started off my course really determined a few months ago and since then have really lost any drive to continue. I'll probably finish so it wasn't a waste of money but in the end I'm not sure I will continue toward a career in medical coding.

@@jizzle2036 Do not give up! You wanted this badly enough to start so at least keep going. I can tell you there are some chapters (looking at you cardiology) that made me doubt by existence but each chapter builds on the last and it will make sense. One thing that is helping me and I WISH I heard about it sooner was to print your ICD 10 Guidelines and put them in a separate binder or folder. I also added all of the modifiers to my binder. That way when I need to look up a GL I can find it without having to flip all over the place in my ICD10 book. I know I can not use my binder in the testing process but I can and will use it in my professional coding. I am currently on chapter 17 can can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good Luck!

The only thing that keeps me going is knowing that in a job you have access to encoder programs. That takes a lotta stress off. The field requires massive skill for flexibility because there’s always questions and lots of changes.

Personality, skill, and interest-wise, it sounds perfect, but I'm hesitant after I already had one major career venture fail. I'm currently in retail, and hopefully working towards eventual promotion with extremely supportive management behind me, but I'm just not sure that'll ever happen; unless I basically become a completely different person.

@@yackilean HIM as in Health information management. Im currently in school now for it. AHIMA Does not offer degrees. Just certifications. Both are great. But having a health info management degree along with a certification from AHIMA OR AAPC will give you an upper hand plus more money in Florida.

???Just retired from the V.A Hospital in Nashville and worked in cardiology but early on in my career, I was an outpatient clinic clerk. We did our own CPT codes from drs orders and progress notes…I loved it! I am now 58 years old and want to code pt…I sure hope there is not age discrimination?? Surely not…Hate the billing aspect. Just want to learn icd-10 and work pt for 10 or so years…what do you think that looks like in my case? Thank you in advance! Kelley from Nashville :))

So not new to medical stuff but it’s been a few years. Would that help getting with this sort of job both with understanding and being getting employed?

How can I get the client of medical billing & coding work from US..I m running a company
@ContempoCoding16 күн бұрын
Securing medical billing and coding clients from the U.S. has become increasingly challenging because many providers are hesitant to offshore billing due to concerns about data security. There have been court cases where patient data was compromised, and the healthcare providers-not the billing companies-were held liable, which has made them more cautious. To build trust, focus on showcasing your company’s robust data protection measures and compliance with HIPAA regulations to reassure potential clients of your reliability.

Thank you for all your videos. I will but haven't yet watched your masterclass. I have a question though, the local online program i am considering is 18,000 it says Certifications Student are eligible for certification for: (NCICS) National Certified Insurance and Coding Specialist (NCICS) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Diploma Program is designed to prepare students to obtain entry-level positions in the medical billing and coding field through a combination of both clinical and administrative training. Students will learn and practice how to use management software and electronic health records (EHR). They will further become proficient in medical insurance and billing using the ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS II coding system manuals. The program is focused on preparing students for certification. I know that was a lot sorry, what do you recommend? Thank you for your time and help! I am still in the process of binge watching all your videos.

2 questions. Will an employer look at the Medical Coding/Billing program from Preppy the same as a 1 year Medical Coding/Billing degree from a local college? Also, how difficult is it to get a job as a man in this field? Thanks!
@ContempoCoding5 ай бұрын
With Preppy, you'll receive a certificate from the University of Auburn upon completion, which is highly regarded by employers. While it's not the same as a degree from a local college, it still holds significant value in the industry. As for being a man in the field, gender doesn't impact job opportunities in medical coding and billing-what matters most are your skills and certifications. Good luck!

Do you have to obtain a certificate for each state,or can you certify in Florida and move to Tennessee and work under the Florida certificate?
@ContempoCoding4 ай бұрын
There is no government oversight or regulation in medical coding and thus no state differences. The certificates issued for certifications are good for whatever employer accepts them.
