Interesting fact pitou is the only one of the royal guards who can't fly. With some ant species, it is believed females, aside from the queen, can't fly but males can. Maybe that's a hint on their (single gender nutral version) While this might not be the case with all ant species. Definitely isn't with the cimera ants because the queen can't fly, neither can a lot of the male ants, though that might be becaue of the mixed genetics.

From the translation I watched Pitou had a pronoun of "it". I always considered the pronoun was mostly used to de-humanize Pitou :v. I was always under the assumption that Kurapika was female sex but agender in terms of gender (since literally nothing about their arcs change based on this). With Pitou, it’s actually kind of common for soldiers/subordinates to use “boku” (a usually male version of the word “I”) - it’s similar to a lot of employers and teachers referring to their students with the honorific “-kun” also regardless of gender. The creator refers to them as androgynous, so I don’t know what you mean about him not talking about Pitou’s gender. It’s also, as you said with Chimera ants’ mutations, that it is entirely possible that Pitou has no real sex that can be determined by what we consider the most common sexes in humans, male and female. Most of the other characters refer to them as “it” instead of using any definitive pronoun.

When I first watched hunterxhunter I thought pito was a boy until It started seeing pito doing things for the king out of love bit I never realized she was just being motherly. After watching this I think pito has no gonads but I think and have evidence that pito is much like the queen and understands complex emotions that a mother and a older sister would have. I love nepherpito as a character. Please do a video on the theory that kite is the true King and not meruem
