I got a small story for you guys. I went to a convention Karl Urban was at many years ago, he’s done a Star Trek Project called “Star Trek Continues” with Vic Mignona and was travelling with him I think. This was a few years before he did The Boys. I brought with me a copy of Dredd and Doom to get signed. Approaching Karl, I gave him the copy of Dredd, he excitedly asked me who my favourite character was, we chatted for a minute about Judge Death, The Dark Judges and I told him about the Judge Child saga which had my favorite short story in it. I asked him if he’d be down to do a sequel and he said he had a few projects in the pipes, but absolutely would return to do Dredd again. He signed my DVD “I Am The Law” But then I gave him the Doom copy to sign. All the color drained from his face and he looked positively graven. His smile and optimism, just gone. He asked me “are you being serious” and I said “what? Yea of course, I love this movie I swear” He looked off into space for what felt like the longest time and I swear I saw tears well in his eyes. Then with most reluctance I’ve ever witnessed in a human being, he signed it “I wasted The Rock” and then I moved on not long after. That movie ruined that man. God bless him, he was far too good for it. That memory will haunt me forever.

I remember a "documentary" about a newbie filmmaker (or at least he was "trying" to be) and he needed money to travel because the school he wanted to study in was in another country (or something like that, I don't remember but he needed money for his cause). And he knew because of the news that they where filming Doom near of where they where staying, so he was given permission to enter the set and met The Rock, and he made some donations and I think he started a charity or some shit for this guy to enter the school or find the funds to travel. This guy was so proud and narcissistic that rejected all the help saying something like: I don't need their money I'm better than them. He also went to get the visas for staying in the country and the date to renew them came close or some shit, and he didn't do it saying something like: I don't need to do that (like if he was beyond law and society). And then complained to people and insulted people of his misfortune, he was getting kicked out of the country because of lack of a visa (surprise surprise). All the money people collected for him (including The Rock's) was used not for his trip but in trying to do some damage control due to his stupidity and at the end he was left with nothing, nothing was gained, he still wanted money for school, but rejected all help even though he was being obnoxious to people to let him do whatever he wanted. A total failure of a person I tell you.

The whole point of the protagonists backstory was that he may have had something to do with his parents death and felt guilt over it and this guilt pushed him away from pursuing their legacy and into the military and being in the military he likely killed a lot more people and felt guilt about that as well. It's why he didn't want the injection to save his life because he believed he deserved what happened to him since he viewed himself as "evil." Most of this is heavily implied by the movie and is only contextualized by the reuniting of the siblings. Even so, without him being directly or indirectly involved in his parents' death, he may still be harboring guilt for being in the military, having possibly killed people. Also side note, the HGP was never properly finished. Funding was cut due to the amount of time it was taking to complete and that led scientists working on the project to make the claim that it had finished. So the statement made by Sam(character) isn't entirely incorrect.

I have a couple of thoughts about the movie: 1. I think that is a decent Aliens/1st Resident Evil movie ripoff, and The twist of The Rock being The Final Villain Boss of the movie instead of the Hero is probably the most interesting his career ever got. 2. I Wonder if after seeing the reception to this Karl Urban understood that fans want fidelity towards the source so he was okay with never taking the helmet off in Dredd.

I remember reading rumors of a Do0m movie back in the '90s. The usual gaming magazines: PC Gamer, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Diehard Gamefan, and Gamepro. Legend had it (at the time) that they wanted Arnie to play Do0mguy. I remember thinking, at the time, that Michael Biehn or Tom Berenger should play Do0mguy since Do0mguy lo0ks like the two of them combined (leaning more toward Tom Berenger). Note: One detail that this movie incorporates that's authentic to the original Do0m is Do0mguy assaulting and killing a superior officer for ordering his tro0ps to fire on civilians. 9:29 Maybe he should take his glove off first? 14:28 There's a trope even worse than that one. It's when a character gets a minor cut on their finger and then stick their finger in their mouth like a wee-little kid (something we all learn not to do when we're wee-little kids). 15:41 Sewer level: 976 16:42 Scriptwriters need consultants like you. 33:42 The movie that inspired the original Do0m! 34:00 57 years. 35:23 Sorry, Jerek, but Do0m 3's shotgun sucks. 36:19 G36 combo sights suck. I never actually disliked this movie, I thought it was perfectly serviceable as it was. It was definitely not a good movie, but it was entertaining enough for what you go in expecting. You know what you're going to get, the acting is..what it is for proto-Super Famous Rock and Karl Urban. I'd rather watch this movie 20 times than watch something made in the last decade with maybe less than 10 exceptions. The main memory of this movie that I have has nothing to do with the actual movie haha. I just specifically remember I bought it with my roommates and our girlfriends in college when I first moved out in my early 20's. I don't know why I remember that so well as a memory, but that's just something we would do in the mid 2000's...got with your girl and your friends, go to Blockbuster and buy used or rent a movie. I'm not going to explain it, because it's one of those 'if you know, you know' type of things; it's not something that can be explained to someone born in the 90's or later. Maaaybe I can see someone born in the EARLY 90's, but ya, like I said if you know, you know.

Said it plenty of times before. As a popcorn flick, it's fun. Just slap any other name on it and we're good. "Marines on Mars", "Martian Mutation", "The 24th Chromosome" or some other B+ or A- movie title. Calling it Doom set expectations too high and then the deviation from the source material brought everything crashing down. And that was a mistake that the producers will have to live with. But the chemistry between The Rock and Karl Urban still makes it worthwhile to watch as an action flick. If you want a solid Doom adaptation, you could adapt the Hugh/Linaweaver novels into a screenplay. The only issue some folks might have with that is SPOILER ALERT -It does involve aliens near the end- But the story is still awesome and we'd still get plenty of monster stomping action and hopefully a badass chick that can actually pull off a high and tight without looking like a dude. You also have Doom 3 which, despite what the haters say, is a great game in its own right and would make a decent foundation for a Doom film. Just imagine the battle in the mess hall with Sarge being adapted to the big screen. You'd have to be a total dunce to screw that one up. And hell, if you could do something with that game, just picture what could be possible with Doom 2016/Doom Eternal? Or even better, just stick to the mindless ultra-violence of OG Doom and sprinkle in a little bit of lore here and there. Like literally just add text screens and you'd still get a better Doom adaptation than what we got in 2005. But the bottom line is: without a passionate (and competent) staff, we'd probably just end up with another Doom: Annihilation and yet another blemish on the history of the most legendary franchise in the history of the FPS genre.

26:20, the fight scene of destroyer against hell knight is actually good. You did it dirty deliberately. Look at the scene again. He uses two pipes. One, to hit him, then he drops that pipe to pick the bigger pipe to trap him. And he dies in the end because this time he falls uncontrollably, unlike the first time where he was conscious enough to actually fall and still manage to save his head from hitting the ground.

24:35 Not to be nitpicking but in the Doom universe, monsters can both come out of Hell themselves OR take over human bodies and mutate them. Undead UAC marines are literally the first enemies you see in the original Doom. Hell is more of a force than it is a specific form; The flaming skulls spawning from Hell might once have been real human skulls or they're just 'made up' by Hell itself. (Which still means her assumption is wrong, of course)

And, unlike with Annihilation, it’s evident that some care and attention to detail went into the movie (using Doom 3 enemy designs, trying to make the BFG look powerful, and general set design looking somewhat like Doom 3 levels). I give it two demonic possessions out of a garbage fire.

Fun fact: this movie was actually supposed to basically be live action Doom 3. Hellspawn, demonic portals and everything. But the original director had to drop out or got dropped for this other guy who was a super Christian and felt wrong making a movie about demons so he tried to make it resident evil instead.

This game was based on Doom 3 a relatively hated Doom game for having brand new concepts and being survival horror. The rock is supposed to be a parody of Sergeant Thomas Kelly. You're main ally during Doom 3 that eventually turns into the second boss after being possessed. In fact the only people who didn't get parodies were swan and his bodyguard. Little bit of trivia.

I didn't get that the rock was a direct character from doom 3, because I never played doom 3 being a relatively hated doom game for not being doom. Figured he was simply a misdirect of "actual doom guy" instead of urban.

Doom literally just has a few of things that if you just stick to them you can easily make a doom movie because even the original creator of the doom game said he believes stories in games doesn't matter it just has to be fun So basically the only thing you need for a doom movie is a super strong protagonist who doesn't give a fuck about his enemies And demons for him to rip up with guns and a chainsaw I dont understand how they keep messing it up

This movie grew on me. The protagonists are a group of marines, as opposed to the one doom guy. The original games didn't have much in the way of story, so this movie took more inspiration from the 3rd game, probably the bravo team you are supposed to save.

The nano wall does make sense. They explain the idea is that the wall is supposed to keep out any biological material that they deem unsafe. Considering that the company was doing off the books biological experiments with aliens makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that later in the movie one of the monsters chaces them into the infirmary, and the way the stop it is by making the wall solid after it partially passes through. Though by their own explanation the monster shouldn't have been able to pass through in the first place, as that was the point of the nano wall to begin with...to act as a bio filter.

It was fine upon first viewing. Has more game tie in than annihilation. It has a little bit of tie in to Doom 3. So it gets atleast 1 point. It isn't the worst thing in the world but it's for from good. Atleast semi-tolerable and is mostly enjoyable for dumb fun and not much more.

Considering that they didn’t have an actual story in the games besides Doom Guy being the grandson of the guy from Wolfenstein and that his bunny was killed by demons and that’s what drove him over the edge, they still did pretty bad. Like even with the limited background they still messed it up, even Doom 3 has a better storyline and it had a demo for Xbox on the dvd. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll have a good Doom movie but so far the movies (yes movies) have been bad, at least this one is dumb enough to be bad but good in a Rifftrax kind of way.

@@sorrenblitz805 The irony is, you would think a true believer Christian who believes in the existence of devils and demons would be cool with a movie where humans fight demonspawn and other monsters. After all, that's what Jesus and all those saints did according to folklore: Driving out demons, slaying dragons etc. Admittedly, Jesus didn't use military armaments, but divine magic. But Jehova already nuked Sodom and Gomorrha in the Old Testament, with some genocides thrown in, his son wanted to be less militaristic in the New Testament sequel.
