Goku deliberately put Goten and Trunks up to fight the galaxy-destroying, god-killing Buu even though he admitted that he could've beaten Buu. I don't think he'd really consider whether someone'd have the maturity to fight for their universe, especially considering the just as immature Buu's in the lineup.

You know what I love about the DBZ community? *Toei Does not let the supporting characters do much* "Where are Piccolo, Krillin and Tien! This is the Goku and Vegeta show, let the other characters do something! Bring Gohan back while you are at it!" *Universal Survival Arc with Tien, Roshi and Krillin, probably the most important thing they would do in the series right now* "This team fucking sucks! Roshi, Krillin and Tien? Where are Goten, Trunks, Cell, Pikkon, Freeza! They are way stronger! This team sucks!" Seriously, they don't know what the hell you want. do it within reason of the lore not just because. it would be cool to throw roshi in as a coach for goku like this is ippo but as a fighter roshi is worthless in this multiversal scope. tien is a nice inclusion since he is a hardcore warrior.. not sure about krillin since he made a point to give up fighting. it would have to be about the delivery. they cant just go whos down and people raise their hands. strategy wise, roshi is a terrible pick. i dont even think he can fly. if they structure the tournament like yyh dark tournament it should be good. but more than likely this arc isnt going to end with a tournament. somethings gonna happen.

They could have pulled in a fighter from the afterlife (and expand on their story), a defeated villain (a chance at redemption, or even betrayal), or a total unknown from some other place in the universe (introduce a brand new character and species). All these options are more powerful and interesting than Roshi or Tien. I'm only giving Krillin a pass because, story reasons; I think him nd 18 working together would be cool to see.

I like that line up. But would be funny to see Golden Freeza again and Cell there to. Because they can use the plot to force that villains to fight in tournament since the fact if the universe is destroyed, they got destroyed to. And others guys like Dabura, king piccolo, android 16, nappa, raditz, Captain Ginyu. But of course they need to use canon characters, to make sense.

It actually wouldn't ruin his character (if pulled off right). Beerus could force him to partake in the tournament, similar to how Goku was allowed to take place in the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai. He would *have* to work with Goku or else be destroyed by Beerus. This could lead into some great comedy and very tense drama.

Also Yamcha always had bad luck in tournaments. Got easily beaten by Roshi in the 21st Budokai got his leg broken by tien in the 22nd Budokai got humiliated by Kami in the 23rd Budokai got almost killed by Cell jr. during the Cell Games He did not even want to participate in the tournament before the Buu saga The only important tournament fight he won (not counting preliminaries) was against the Invisible Man in Fortuneteller Baba's tournament, but he then almost died from getting his back broken and tossed into acid by Bandages the Mumie.

kami aka GOD also praised Yamcha's skill, Krillin could barley handle chiaotzu so he would have gotten destroyed if the fights were flipped and many forget krillin lost against the weakest of baba's fighters and yamcha nearly killed Bandages by knocking him off the platform

+lenmutt Kami praised Yamcha but said that his fighting style is still flawed because of too many unnecessary movements. The tournament where Krillin fought Chiaotzu was three years before that and Krillin had trouble because he was unprepared for Chiaotzu's psychic abilities and the fact that Chaiotzu could fly and Krillin did not, BUT he still won despite being at a dissadvantage. Yeah he lost to Fangs but that was because his bald head was an easy attacking target for a vampire and because Goku made fun of Krillin that he got angry and lost too much blood. While Bandages was just too strong for Yamcha even if he managed to put him at the edge he still lost because he was too weak. Also lets not forget that Piccolo was impressed by Krillin at the 23rd Budokai and even felt a sense of fear for a little bit at after seeing how strong a human could become

Actually, having Cell on the team would be interesting. I’m already looking forward to the interaction between Krillin, 18 and 17, but then add Cell to the mix. Forced to ‘work together’, this could lead to some humorous moments, but could also make for darker storylines, tension within the team, considering that he absorbed 17 and 18, killed (however briefly) Future Trunks, Goku (for a bit longer) and was the one who made Gohan let loose. Also would have been a nice little call-back if Gohan was struggling in the tournament (I have a feeling with the way he’s being handled, that is going to happen) and Cell managed to enrage him enough to really get into the right spirit again, or something like that. As for recruiting him…. King Yemma: "…This tournament will decide the fate of the universes. It demands no less than the greatest warriors and their full commitment. So you have the choice; enter the tournament and fight alongside your former enemies against the mightiest in existence, fight as your Saiyan blood demands, finally proof that you are the strongest among all…or go back to the teddy bears and fairies singing children songs." Cell: "…do I need to pack anything?"

Since it's a universal tournament, and the writing staff is plausibly going to have to introduce over 100 combatants in the tournament, I'd say that introducing new characters and using episodes for brief back story wouldn't be out of the question. Seeing as how Universe 6 is the sort of mirror to Universe 7, why not look elsewhere in the universe other than Earth for fighters? Why not find Universe 7's equivalent to Universe 6's Hit?

Nope, honestly this team makes zero sense. Roshi being there makes no goddamn sense, it´s like you´re throwing a bug into a fight with Dinosaurs. Even Chiaotzu is way above him, even the average warrior Namekians are far more powerful than Roshi. And why the hell are humans like Krillin and Roshi on the team instead of Trunks and Goten? We are talking about the kids who were trained to fight against buu. And why is every single fighter from earth? Lol you expect me to believe that there is no one in universe 7 stronger than fucking Roshi or even Krillin and Tien? Sigh, this arc hasn´t even started yet and it´s already a disappointment.

Goten and Trunks are not so experienced when it comes to fgihting, even against Buu they were just screwing around. They are not good fighters, plus, without fusion they are pretty weak, even tien and krillin are more experienced than them. Goten and Trunks are kids and no matter how high are the stakes, they will just screw everything up.

I don't get the shade Krillin gets from everyone. I freaking love the character. One of my all-time favorite DB characters ever. He was so freaking fun in DB. He was getting surpassed by his best friend and he still stood by his side in Z. And by the side of his son. He basically was one of the main characters during the Namek saga. He led the whole Namekian expedition. He was calling the shots when the shit hit the fan.

I feel the same. My favourite is Tien, but Krillin in DB was just great. I wished they would have kept his cocky personality. Krillin fights were always interesting because he was never the strongest but the smartest of the fighters, so he kept up by tricking his opponents (like how he nearly kicked Roshi out of the tournament with panties, how he beat Chao-Zu with math, how he even managed to give goku a lot of trouble by playing dirty in their fight)

Pretty sure when Goten and Trunks fought Super Buu it was also the "fight for the universe". So clearly when things get too dire they would have fought regardless of circumstances. Granted they didn't have much of a choice in Buu Saga. But I really dont think they have the liberty to opt out of this as the fate of their entire universe rests on this tournament. They may be kids but they are much more stronger than Roshi and Tien. Considering the stakes of this tournament, leaving Goten and Trunks out the team (thereby not having the best team possible for this "crisis") is pure idiocy and is clearly a marketing strategy (which annoys but I can still respect that somewhat). I really like you idea of Cell. It's different from the typical villain returning with a new form and big fight. Instead, to become a good guy. Or at least Neutral. I'd like to see that happen. I want diversity in my fighting roster and Tenshinhan and Master Roshi have some of the most unique fighting styles. Do we really need Kid Trunks in the team when we just had an entire arc that was literally an over glorification of his Future timeline self? Kid Trunks is nowhere near interesting as Future Trunks and the same goes for Goten. Both Goten and Kid Trunks have no history of fighting an opponent one on one outside of their match against each other in the World Tournament unless you count when they disguised themselves as Mighty Mask to fight Android 18. The only thing interesting about the two is that they're set pieces to create Gotenks who is a much more interesting character.

The thing about Roshi is his experience as a fighter. He may have the most of all except Piccolo. Buu relies more on his own abilities. Sure he quit fighting in DB bit since then the figthers learned trainingmethoda that raised their power up to much higher levels, even human ones. His Age doesnt really matter since he is nigh immortal and still fit if he wants. Give him good training and you have a Krillin or Yamcha level fighter with a whole lot of experience.

Frieza was considered the most powerful being in Universe 7, excluding asleep Majin Buu and Beerus. Considering he managed to hold the entire universe by its balls for decades means that there aren't many fighters on his level. Power level of 18,000 was considered an elite battle power so I am not suprised entire team is from Earth. Two gods, one battle prodigy, a super namekian, a demon once considered the most powerful being in the universe, two powerful cybernetic humans and humans who achieved peak of human capabilities. All of those are on earth. And trust me, if Beerus had anyone on his mind he'd have picked an actual powerhouse, not a space mailman meant to deceive Goku and Vegeta during U6 and U7 tournament.

Masako, you did a video on how the movies could be canon, how about one about how GT could be canon? It's all really very simple if you ask me. GT is a timeline where Beerus never woke up, so the gods were never involved. As a result, the timeline experienced a butterfly effect. Kibito Kai never gathered Namek's dragon balls to defuse which is why he exists in GT, Pilaf and gang never wished for youth because they became more interested in looking for the Black Star balls, the entire thing could work! I'd like to see a line up that has a few new characters as fighters picked from other planets so far out in the universe that they have never heard of sayins or anything possibly related to the z-warriors. The Universe is big and I don't even think the Friza family has explored it entirely. While some backstory would be needed these character could be any power level due to they mysterious origins and seeing the limits of their power unfold as the tournament progresses would be very satisfying and possibly create at least one new fan favorite character. Yes it's going to take more time to write and install their story into the arc but isn't this about story first? With the writing staff taking the easy way out, it only produces lackluster product.

Yo, I had two decks back in the DBZ card game days. Lead with a Black King Kai deck... But my second deck was a Pikkon Nemakian deck. Can confirm he has a fanbase. :) Edit: I'd happily replace Roshi with Pikkon (in part because I hate Roshi), but mostly I do love the supporting characters having a chance to come back. The only real criticism I have is that this would be a perfect chance to introduce some fresh U7 characters who are strong fighters (even if they didn't make the top 4/5 and hence weren't introduced in the first tournament). I love new characters and races in this universe/multiverse, and this has been a missed opportunity to see more. I will still watch the hell out of it, though, because that criticism I just levelled represents nothing akin to a dealbreaker.

Because the reason for my list was fun. Bardock is overused in my opinion or, rather has been in the public eye more it feels. Raditz was used only once and in some of the more recent games his character is expanded upon making him far more interesting. (I think it was DB Fusions or Xenoverse 2.. or both?) Where Raditz is thrilled to be fighting along side Goku and that kind of character progression could turn into something more. To me, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and sometimes GT all have interesting characters that could benefit from a small one off or maybe more time in the spot light in Dragon Ball Super.

+That One Guy It's called "character development" Gohan said himself when he fought Cell that he never wanted to be a fighter. After peace returned Gohan stopped training because he did not like it and now that his dad is back he thought he could finally rest and become a scholar and care for his family. However the encounter with Freeza showed him that he can't rely on others to always do the fighting, hence why he asked Piccolo to train him again. In order to protect his family and care for them he has to fight even if he doesn't want to. That's what his loss against Freeza was all about.
