Americans should seriously consider doing more to support more their local businesses rather than buy from the big box stores that receive goods from other countries. The answers are clear.

Correction, for you CNA the USA does not want to stop China's technological development, but wants rule of law, and privacy to prevail. Huawei's 5G is not being stopped because its too good :), but because everyone but this Chinese-Singaporean producer of this video seems to know damn well China will abuse 5G with SPYING, and not just dominating, BUT Monopolizing the world into a death grip if given the chance!

That prediction never came true for the USSR but it mirrors the increasing power of Communist China. American Capitalists were so eager to exploit China economically that they also sold America's international superiority to them as well. If China is such a big "security threat" to America in the first place, then why did America participate so fully in the rapid development of the Chinese economy ? The sad part of all these globalization exercises is that most of the savings from these exercises go into the pockets of the shareholders, obscene executive salaries, and "other enrichment schemes for the entitled" rather than into the consumers. Hence, it does not really matter to the consumers but matters a lot if you happen to be an "affected" worker seeing your jobs going abroad. I can also see a lot of anguish from executives seeing their bonuses affected instead. The really sad effect of globalization is the gradual de-skilling of local workers...

Honestly, as an American consumer who knew the cost of cheap goods was bad from the other country, it was too good to pass up. I pay the price now. This is awakening of a sleeping giant. I criticized America in being self-absorbed during the 1930's and ignoring the oncoming war, but we surpassed it with this single year's revelations. Literally the fall of Rome, governmental corruption beyond belief. We assisted their rise in the 90's and now are paying the price. Only until now do we realize whose leash we put on ourselves. Now we need to release the shackles and join with others who equally were duped (we were all stupid) and free ourselves from said country. My wording is to prevent censorship (not CNA).

I am Malaysian born ethnic Chinese, 3rd generation. I grew up looking down on China and their people, and for more than one decade now increasingly admire and respect the country and the people. It was a total paradigm shift!! The more I understand about the Chinese mentality and their government(after political reform and economic opening up in 1978), the more I realised that China shouldn't be like the west. It can learn from the west but NEVER run the country like a western democracy. Taiwan is a good example whereby after democratization for about 10 years, their economy stagnated for more than a decade now due to too much internal politics whereby each political parties are mainly thinking of their own interests and winning elections only. While Singapore is run pretty differently from Taiwan and in fact, China was inspired by Singapore in the early 80s when they were in their early years of reform and opening up. They look at Singapore and understood that with a strict and competent governance which limits freedom of speech but prioritise responsibility of speech instead, it could bring faster progress and most of the time even faster than in democratic countries. I count myself lucky that I am able to witness the rise and RETURN & COMEBACK of my motherland, China as a global superpower in my lifetime. The same goes to my father. My late grandfather who grew up in China and eventually settled down in Malaysia (1931) in his 20s will be pleased to witness that too if he is still alive today. Back in those days when he left China, it was then in a bloody civil war and still known as the Sick Men of Asia to the western powers and Japan. Do not forget, the western dominance worldwide was only about 200 years old (from United Kingdom to United States), started from wars and colonisations and also containing the potential superpower back then, which was also China. Professor Kishore Mahbubani, former Singapore diplomat and authors of various geo-political books once quoted, the western dominance of the world is an aberration of world history because for the past almost 2000 years, the world's largest economies had always been China, followed by India. And ancient China had always been the most advanced and prosperous nation worlwide and many of their brilliant inventions had contributed to humankind. That were the reasons why he said that all aberrations (western dominance) will naturally comes to an END.

In Malaysia, I have seen many parents who speak Mandarin to each other but ONLY speak English to their child/children. And most of the time, their children ONLY understand English when they are already as old as 5-6 years !! This is a very unhealthy trend because when the child only starting to learn Chinese at 6 years old and above, they will really struggle and find this "foreign language" totally difficult and different from the English language they speak at all time. Many eventually hated Chinese language and even dropped the subject or demand to change to national school/international school! Bear in mind that Chinese language is more important now than ever and will increasingly be even much more in 15-20 years time when the children grow up. Many companies are owned or co-owned by Chinese corporations these days and many large corporations also have China as their largest market. I strongly suggest to these Chinese speaking parents to speak Chinese to their children too and only speak English as a second language. This will make their children learning of Chinese more natural and easier. And also to cultivate a stronger Chinese mindset and Chinese work/life ethics. And another thing is when these Chinese children grow up and being not fluent in Mandarin, they will be ridiculed even more and discriminated as they are ethnic Chinese themselves and Mandarin will be used in many more places and at work too. Think about it!

It was allot of searching through the "Made in China" products but even one brand of chew toys had some products made in Mexico and some made in CCP China, so I grabbed the made in Mexico toy. I was going to buy a local brand from my town "Ruffware" but turns out their products were made in China so I did not purchase that local brand. well, it might be a bit late but still you might be able to manage to catch the last train before it leaves the station. An interesting fact for your reference -- after the PRC space agency announced that she was expecting to finish building and put into operation her own space station (because the US regime forbids any exchange or cooperation between the space scientists and engineers in the US regime with their colleagues in the PRC), some space engineers and astronauts of the Federal Republic of Germany already began their course of learning the Mandarin Chinese way back since about 6 years ago. By 2022, when the PRC space station is up and running, those German astronauts will be proficient in the Mandarin Chinese. They will be able to communicate with their Chinese colleagues and operate all the equipment in the space station which apparently will be equipped with instruction in Mandarin Chinese. That is how German people envision the future, and probably what makes one respect the German people and German nation as the top one in the entire Europe, or even the entire Western world, in spite of the brief aberration because of some failed and deranged painter from Österreich.

@@alexchen3457 Dear Alex: More and more, it looks like America's influence in the world is relying on its military might. It seems to me that there are nations, even in Europe, that would oppose America were it not that they feared it militarily. However, China is challenging America's world dominance without firing a single bullet or launching a single missile. China is also being very careful not to confront America militarily anywhere. That effectively leaves America in an impotent situation. It is losing its world influence in almost every way but militarily, yet China is achieving world dominance in a very non-military way. In chess, they call that "checkmate". The only escape from this possible checkmate for America would be an unprovoked military attack on China large enough to significantly injure the Chinese economy. If that seems unlikely, so does the idea that America will let its 1000 worldwide military installations sit idle while China overtakes it on the world stage. ... jkulik919@gmail.com

Chinese people haven't benefited from this "prosperity". Shame on US politicians who made a deal with the upper ruling class of China. The workers almost got nothing. Not to mention workers, most of us, including the so-called middle class, can't afford to get "costly" deceases like tumor. Farmers are more unfortunate. I personally has witnessed cases in which minor symptoms had to be neglected, needed treatments postponed......until gravely ill. Look at our wages. This said by Premier Li Keqiang:"600 million people only earn an average income of 1000RMB( 154.526 us dollars)a month." Perhaps that's why, "surprisingly", numerous Chinese people support, and even admire Trump so much. It's because we're so fed up with the politicians who made deals with the top riches of China. Or in their own words, "the modest approach". Shame on all of them.

Buybacks were illegal throughout most of the 20th century because they were considered a form of stock market manipulation. But in 1982, the Securities and Exchange Commission passed rule 10b-18, which created a legal process for buybacks and opened the floodgates for companies to start repurchasing their stock en masse.. Now over 40% of the S&P 500 value are baybacks! so NO, the US economy is not GREAT but FED is constantly pumping a lot of money into the stock market, inflating the greatest bubble in the history and all this is not sustainable for long!

Sounds to me that you're a true patriot and a smart man who knows that patriotism can be expressed by your wallet far more efficiently than other means. How many are there like you? Today, Black Friday, I rode my bike to the local mall. At 12:30 when I arrived, there were ZERO parking spots. The entire mall was being circled by bumper-to-bumper motorists waited for parking. I chatted with one couple in a car. The man said they had been circling the mall for 45 minutes and still waiting for a place to park. Inside the mall, there was a long line of people at Starbucks. If our citizenry will circle malls for an hour, just to get a second pair of shoes at 50% off, then wait in a long line for coffee and doughnuts, would they be willing to be like you?

The USA has allowed our manufacturing jobs to leave the country. The tariffs which will lead to fairer trade will help the imbalance. It's better to pay a little more for goods if there are jobs. With no jobs it doesn't matter how cheap the chinese crap is. The lack of good paying manufacturing jobs has contributed mightily to the drug problem and China is only too happy to supply all the drugs the addicts want and more.

This show could have been 25% shorter if it didn't repeat the same parts of interviews 2-3 times. It was also funny to hear the narrator alarming about bifurcation and then all of the interviews say that's not a threat. Look the US / China trade war really comes down to the same reason the USA got pissy at the Libra alliance for existing. The USA is used to having a certain amount of power and influence around the world, and leveraging that power in all it's forms largely keeps their economy ticking over. China is a threat to that power, the USA does not want the world to have a large country like China to go to for protection when the USA acts unfairly or anticompetitively.

This is literally name calling into China as Security concern. However, this sounds exactly sour grape. If really of any serious issue of security concern, it would be sure that any US bodies/branches would have activated ultra-high level of shutting down Chinese' telecom companies. However, this is not the case at all; but mainly playing along the line of angling out the other party for one's commercial advantages. Furthermore, after all these naming, US has yet to come up with any solid evidence of China's security tread to US. However, all talks is directly or indirectly concern to monetary or one's gains; financial gains and advantages, that's all.
