I'd only heard that guy Mike Licona argue for "minimal facts" and it neve made sense. Then again, based upon his debate prowess, I should have figured it was a Licona issue and not an issue with the apologetic. This Habermas person explains it really well. I still don't know that it's the best way to reason for the resurrection, but Habermas seems like a genuine guy. (ie not a bad actor)

Yeshua said, “Behold, it is finished.” And he bowed his head and gave up his Spirit. I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom He wishes. I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. {(Revelation 1:17,18; John 5:21/ 11:25/ 6:50/ 3:16)} Now I am reminding you, brothers, of the gospel which you indeed received and in which you also stand. Through it you are also being saved, if you hold fast to the word. That Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures; that he was buried; that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures; that he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once. The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; all have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God. As it is written: There is no one just, not one, there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. There is not one who does good, and the way of peace they know not. There is no fear of God before their eyes. Since no human being will be justified in his sight by observing the law; for through the law comes consciousness of sin. But if our wickedness provides proof of God’s righteousness, what can we say? Is God unjust, humanly speaking, to inflict his wrath? But if God’s truth redounds to his glory through my falsehood, why am I still being condemned as a sinner? We are justified freely by his grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as an expiation, through faith, by his blood, to prove his righteousness because of the forgiveness of sins previously committed, through the forbearance of God-to prove his righteousness in the present time, that he might be righteous and justify the one who has faith in Jesus. {(1 Corinthians 15:1-11; Romans 3:5,7,10-12,17,18,20,22-27)}

18:28 Dr. Gary's best evidence for the resurrection is that the disciples had experiences that they believed were the appearance of the risen Jesus and no other theories or suggestions can explain what else they saw other than a resurrection? 🤨 Really. People have been made to believe crazy things for as long as there have been people. I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility that a group of people would come to believe they saw and believe in something that didn't really happen. I'm sure there are people out there today that believe in something 1000% (flat-earthers) that you would probably think is absolutely crazy. That's not evidence at all in my opinion.

The best logical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus is the early martyrs; willing to suffer horrendous violence and death. They wouldn’t have gone through that to perpetuate a lie.
@adamfatalis76192 жыл бұрын
Martyrs are easily made, what sets the disciples apart was that they knew the truth, they saw Jesus dead and then they saw him resurrected. The Holy Spirit and seeing Christ alive is what lead them to facing the persecutions they faced. A man will die for what he believes in, but he will never die for something he knows is false. Yes their is sufficient evidence it's called the Holy Ghost that resides in true believers. Jesus said we must be born of the spirit and water his water his spirit. It's called what in the bible calls the spirit bearing witness of him. It leads you into that is concerning Christ for it is the Father's spirit showing you all about his Son. For the Son is in the Father and the Father is in the Son. There's no MUST to it no one has to believe all other claims just because I am one of those irrational believers in the resurrection of My Lord Yeshua The Ha'mashiach. The evidence is in the Biblical Jewish Prophesy & its unparalleled 100% accuracy rate even more amazing is these prophesies happen in canonical order so if one Prophecy Doesn't happen Before the next prophecy Then it makes it all a lie. Bible prophecy is different from predictions Because I prediction May or may not happen but biblical prophecy has to be 100% accurate since this is coming from God.

@@jonathannixon8652 That is false. The biblical prophecies are often incorrect, wrong and contradict each other. @avi8r662 жыл бұрын
@@robmarshall956 better question, what do you consider to be his best piece of evidence?
@avi8r662 жыл бұрын
@@robmarshall956 About his books? Never read them, but his favorite presentation is what he calls his minimal facts list (which has shrunk over the years). He's down to 6 these days. And they are pretty weak frankly. 1) Jesus died by crucifixion 2) after that event his followers had 'real' experiences they thought were real appearances of the risen jesus 3) their lives were transformed as a result 4) these 'things' were taught early, not long after the crucifixion 5) Jesus' brother, who supposedly doubted him, became a christian 6) Paul became a believer. What's interesting about this list of his is that NONE of them are actually evidence, they are all anecdotal accounts at best. For example: 1) This is probably true, rome definitely used crucifixion, and if the person behind the jesus stories was real, and really did garner a following that publicly called him King, he would have been viewed as a threat and crucified as a traitor to rome. This is possible, not outside the realm of possible events, but there isn't any impartial external evidence to support it other than the fact, this part is a fact, christianity exists. So it's likely the grain of truth behind the movement is that jesus existed more or less as described, and was executed, which made him a martyr and this solidified his followers to keep the preaching going. it does not, however, confirm ANY of the supernatural claims, those simply are not needed for this to be true. 2) People see all kinds of things when grieving, or when they need a good story to rally the people. I still sometimes think my parents are around, or have dreams where I am talking to them, and they have been dead for some time. We never even got along all that well. And similar for a friend of mine who died a few years ago, I still occasionally will dream fairly realistically that we are supposed to meet up or that we did meet up. This is rather common. 3) Yes, perhaps, your 'leader' being martyred can transform your life into something new. This can mean just about anything though. It is vague and essentially meaningless. 4) That the newly angered/motivated followers began spreading stories of his 'rise from the dead', and this would only take one or two collaborators to get going, is not unusual. After all, they were rebelling against rome in a way. They had a following, they had a martyr, they had a common enemy (rome), and they had a story. They had their careers pretty well mapped out, just need to start spreading the word and people were eating it up. 5) Maybe, this story isn't as well supported as habermas would like to claim. Just what that relationship was to jesus is debated often. Half brother? full brother? Just 'brother' like people say about close firends/associates? At best he was probably a half brother, Joseph didn't just have the one wife after all. But, lets pretend that's a fact, that james was the brother of jesus. The stories of his involvement vary, because of course they do, the most plausible in my opinion comes from Eusebius which describes the scenario of the disciples, trying to hold their followers together, approach him to be kinda like jesus in a way, a proxy figurehead. his value to them being that he was brother of jesus. He was apparently considered honest, and between that and his relationship to their martyr he would be able to help bring credibility back to their preaching. The jews (pharisees in this case) didn't want this to happen so they tossed him off a temple and then stoned him to death. Rough crowd. 6) Paul becoming a believer doesn't prove anything either. This is yet another bit of anecdote that is very human feeling based, which is crap for evidence. In the end this is the core of everything Habermas has been pushing for a long time. None of it qualifies as 'evidence' of any kind of credibility. For the most part it is, at best, inference from old stories, old stories with less than reliable .. reliability. His thousands of pages of whatever is probably going to be a lot of loopy logic and fluffy rewording of what I said above.
@avi8r662 жыл бұрын
@@robmarshall956 do they though? I don't think they do. Perhaps you can name some of these secular scholars? I know habermas says they all agree with him on these points, but I haven't seen that kind of response. However, even if each one of these things is agreed to by the secular scholars it still does not demonstrate or prove that the resurrection occurred. It just says 'some people thought it happened and they devoted their lives to it'. Well, if that's the case then Islam must be true. Oh wait, no, then the followers of Jim Jones must have been right. Oh wait, no, ok, surely the David Koresh followers had it right... Well, maybe not... And on and on and on. People 'devote their lives' to things for all kinds of lousy reasons. This doesn't establish that 'reason' to be true. That game he plays by claiming they agree with him is misdirection. It suggests they buy the whole story when (according to him) they only agree with elements of the story. Example: Do you believe London is a real city? Probably yes. Ok, we agree on this point. Do you believe trains exist? Probably yes. Do you believe owls exist? Probably yes. Do you believe children attend private schools? Probably yes. Do you believe Harry Potter is a wizard? Hopefully not. This is the game he is playing.

@@robmarshall956 I have played this game long enough to know that if I read each of those books, took my time to take notes, verify whatever he said, etc, I would come back here, and unless I agree with you I will be judged to just be ignorant and stubborn anyway. Meanwhile, I have explained his famous arguments, I have explained my current opinion of his claims, I have provided examples of his tactic, and you have danced around it. This is also typical. I was raised a christian, I attended private christian schools, I have lived a number of decades surrounded by this nonsense, and based on everything i have heard in his interviews and debates I am confident of 2 things. 1) he has nothing new or solid to offer in terms of evidence 2) he is milking the 'potential' of his book all he can because he knows it will not be convincing to anyone. If you already believe it will just reaffirm your beliefs, but if not convinced it won't convince you. It's best use will be to firmly hold down a light table in the breeze.
