What’s weird is that another guy covered the crossroads church clip, and someone in the comments, said that he or she worked there, and that they really just ticking around the Bible cover. But if you listen to the clip, they referred to it as “kicking the Bible.“ So the irreverent attitude is still there. Also, my church uses movie trailers in an annual series, but we still do exit scripture. Granted, maybe it could be better, but I do hope it’s not to the same degree as these churches.

They allow people to think they’re kicking a Bible around the parent, at least those who aren’t regular attenders and who don’t know any better). If a Muslim and mom were caught, so much is putting a Quran on the floor, things might not end well for him. If we treated the Bible with half, as much respect as Muslims treat the Quran, at least, physically, we would not be doing this.

I was a youth pastor for a long time, and also did a lot with Young Life. We did tons of funny skits, games, characters, etc. Those were all parts of providing a fun and inviting environment for kids. But when we came to teaching God’s word, there was always a clear transition to the idea that THIS is what we’re really here for. To me reverence is taking the right things seriously. I’ve done the occasional skit or funny video for church announcements - but again, that’s a different thing than making a mockery of the corporate gathering of the church and the preaching of God’s word.

I visited a seeker friendly church in California. (Not knowing it was one of those churches. I was invited to go to church with a neighbor). There were a couple of popcorn machines by the front door. You could get a free bag of popcorn before the service. The “sermon” was a series of video clips from popular culture on very large screens like a movie theater . There were some choruses that were sung, then the pastor wrapped it all up with a five minute talk tying the video to a theme in the Bible. That was basically the service. No serious Bible teaching occurred. The pastor announced that next week’s theme would be from Star Wars. I left there wondering : what was that? I will never go back there! Give me teaching from God’s word, not a circus with popcorn.

Hi everyone, I’m not sure how I stumbled upon this video but it must’ve been a work of God. Over the past few weeks, I’ve felt like God is pulling me back to Him. I always thought of myself as Christian because I had been baptized, confirmed in the church, etc. However, I became lukewarm in my faith somewhere along the way. This is exactly why I stopped attending my last church. They've acted out scenes from The Chosen many times, and they do the Super Bowl theme now too. Dress up plays instead of sermons. No focus on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nope. I can't, and I won't. I live in a very rural area and don't have many options for churches. I can't compromise. 🥺🙏🏽

Now this statement actually makes sense to me but the problem that I see in this criticism of these types of churches in this video, especially in the comments left by people who may have or may have not watched the entire video but probably have never experienced any of these churches or church services first-hand for any more than maybe one service, is that there seems to be a lot of “religion” in the words used. Justin Peters and his viewers use a lot of phrases that sound like following Jesus is all about following some kind of rules like the Mosaic Law, rather than what lies at the heart of God’s Word. Kicking Bibles, explosions, football-themed services, movie nights, lights, blasting pop tunes and images of pop culture, serving coffee and popcorn or even alcohol, are all ways to draw people in or to entertain people and get their endorphins going, make them feel good about going to church, but maybe they don’t truly lead to saved souls? I don’t know. Justin Peters claims they do not. He says that they just create “goats” not “sheep” - people who cannot worship God not people who do worship God. The worship of gods in the OT, the Baal worshippers, the Asherah pole worshippers, the Romans and Greeks with their pantheon, are all chastised by the One True God, Jehovah Jireh, Elohim. Their “worship”, in some cases, amounted to chanting, overindulgence in alcohol, dance, sex, and animal sacrifice. There are parallels. I just want to know how the churches that believe that God will do all the work to draw people in actually draw people in to the church doors. How can we spread the good news without reaching those who don’t know it? WE are the church. The church is a building, yes, and an organization, yes. But WE are really the church. We are supposed to be witnessing to Jesus. So how do you plan to be a witness for Christ if you only go to church on Sundays in your tie and Oxford shirt and khaki pants, singing praise songs and hymns from the 1800s and early 1900s, when the ones who need Jesus are OUT THERE?

Please, don’t be a lone wolf Christian. God’s people need to worship, fellowship together as well as encourage and exhort one another. Please find a church that- 1. puts a high view on worship, 2. preaching that works through a book of the Bible (exegetical), 3. has a weekly prayer meeting where they really pray 4. has a proper view of the person and work of Jesus Christ 5. has materials available for personal Bible study. (The leadership should be equipped to disciple you and answer your questions.) 6. Has church membership. I want a church that is willing to discipline me if when confronted with a sin, I refuse to repent. When you are in a good church, take notes. Sunday afternoon is a great time to go over them. Praise God, and I know what you mean about getting sick to your stomach. I praise God that you are one of us. Churches are not something you can "just attend" like in the past. You have to critique them carefully. How? Read the Bible yourself, regular read it. Just like any other book. Keep reading it and then go looking for a church. Also, praying to God for connection to true Christians helps. Definitely recommend you do NOT start out with pentecostal. I lived near a Crossroads in NKY. They had like 2 services a day during the week before Christmas, so you could "get" the Christmas service done before Christmas Day. Regarding Life Church. I hadn't watched any of their sermons in a long time, but I was a volunteer for Life Church for a couple of years, including when they did 30 second Theology and At the Movies. I did set up for props and volunteered for the kid's "ministries". Looking back, I rarely heard the gospel, and whatever bits of the Bible were read were read out of context. 90%+ was just whomever was speaking talking about themselves or whatever new book they were selling. Their kids programs were not the worst thing I'd seen at first, but then they switched to some Tik-Tok inspired service that had almost nothing Bible related. The kids hated it, and asked us to speak about the Bible, and some of the people in charge got irritated at myself and my other volunteer partner for veering off their taking points to actually talk about the Bible. Those kids felt like they were being talked down to by the program, and were genuinely eager to hear the Bible. The people in charge wouldn't have that though. I stopped volunteering shortly there after. My breaking point was a service where Craig Groschel spent 30 minutes talking about himself, and the only Bible verse was half a Proverb taken out of context and used to shill for his new book. You're not going to get fed Biblically at Life Church. Every bit of criticism Justin lobbed their way here is 100% warranted.

I experienced the exact same thing. I served in roots and life kids. The worship was just a bunch of paid musicians, they weren’t even believers. My final straw was when a homeless girl was sitting outside the church and it was cold everyone just walked passed her, no one stopped to see if she needed anything. I had come out after service and she was still there. I ended up giving her a ride to the bus station and sharing the gospel with her on the ride there. That showed me the heart of the “church”, very self centered and self righteous, they would always brag about their giving. I didn’t like that, the word of God said do t let your right hand know what the left is doing.

This Easter Sunday was mine and my youngest daughter’s 1 year anniversary getting baptized and joining our church. I’ve been watching KZbin videos and listening to sermons and some of Greg Groeschel’s sermons really spoke to me, however I’ve never seen this side of his ministry. I’m also attending seminary at Batesville Bible Institute at Zion Hill Baptist Church. This has opened my eyes and it’s a real shame. I appreciate your candor and will pray for better discernment. When I was telling someone about the Bible kicking church they said “it shouldn’t bother you, you aren’t doing it.” I said “yes, but they literally kicked the words that came out of my Father’s mouth! It breaks my heart that they are disrespecting His word, and that they can’t see how it must breat His heart that people gathered in His name are doing things like that.” Now I’m not going to sit here and say I’m without sin, I have to ask for The Lord to forgive me daily for something I didn’t use my brain about. The Sunday School class I taught this morning to Kindergartners thru Second Graders was an hour on Jesus and Zacchaeus, going over Jesus spending time with sinners, God’s law vs man’s traditions (Pharisees) and the fact that we’re all sinners. If those children could sit and take part in my class, participating and asking questions, then these people can put forward a worship service that is more than this silliness. I am not a Christian . One best friend of mine has been a devoted Christian since we were in high school . Off and on throughout our lives I have made an effort to stay in touch with him. A while back I located him again and it turned out he was living fairly close to me. My wife and I went for a visit and him and I now are friends on Facebook. My friend is someone I have always thought very highly of and I care about. I respect that you and your wife go by the book, the Bible.
