The way I look at it is this …it’s supposed to be like a spy adventure, so one may imagine that it will lean towards that direction with standard Star Trek flare taking a back seat…but only time will tell when we all see the movie. Fingers crossed that it’ll be a great movie!

Section 31 needs to not be obvious that they are linked to star fleet as they need to be under cover and blend into where ever they are so they can complete their mission, as the trailer seems to mention spy stuff or black operations for things that normally star fleet would not allow or want to be generally known. I remember from ds9 the character Sloan pushed thing quite far when he was dealing with Dr Bashir.

Best news ever at THE ORVILLE resembles Star Trek as opposed to much of what is being created now. SNW is the only thing that resembles Gene Roddenberry's hopeful vision of the future. This section 31 dumpster fire is yet another example that those making NuTrek don't know what they are doing. You can't just have characters like Vulcans, humans from the mirror universe, and characters like Rachel Garrett and call it Star Trek. 😢

Reminds me of the 'it's a western in space' comment from the JJ Abrams reboot movies. Looks like Suicide Squad in the Star Trek Universe, intended to appeal to a potential wider audience whilst risking alienating the existing. Shame, as Georgiou was indeed a fascinating character, one of the few successes from Discovery. But this is what you get when not only were the writers and producers not born when Star Trek first hit screens, their parents, maybe even grandparents, were not yet born.

😢 What's sad is that Rick Berman is still alive. If Alex Kurtzman had any common sense he would use Berman as a consultant. Berman was mentored by Gene Roddenberry and played a major role in the creation of DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise.

Looking at the trailers of Section 31 and S3 SNW sneak peak I feel there seems to be a desperate attempt to look "cool" over substance and depth. Though I'm sure it will be fun and very much feel "of the moment" and the "here and now" but I don't imagine it's going to be asking or answering any significant philosophical questions about life, the universe & everything. And I fear the pop soundtrack will date it very quickly. It doesn't scream Classic Science Fiction to me . These modern Treks are interesting curiosities but I don't particularly consider them as Star Trek in the classic sense.

I think the question of Section 31's place in Star Trek, as well as whether this movie is anything like Star Trek, is completely moot. This is the worst trailer I've ever seen in my entire life...movie, show, game, whatever. Everyone involved in this should be fired. All the way down to the valet at Paramount. It was actually shocking.

They are undercover as a bar-club...think Casablanca with spy-vs-spy. If these individuals can come together and make it work, they can graduate and go on missions. The new Section 31 "team" must sit/wait and collect data/information/intelligence and maybe protect sources/assets, biding time until called upon for a mission.

Well, also, by making it clear that this is a bit underground, they can have a parallel story in the same timeline in which it is never mentioned, that would be much more traditionally Star Trek. Yeoh literally said it was 'Mission Impossible'. Another actor literally said it was 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3'. I have a problem with using modern music in Star Trek. It immediately dates it. It makes you work harder at suspending your disbelief, instead of working less. The bigger problem is that the Federation is supposedly in an optimistic future, where most people can pursue their goals and are moral and ethical. According to Picard 'The First Duty is to the truth'. The trailer just simply was lots of action, and to me, Star Trek is not about action. And I liked Guardians 3. It had lots of tragic character development. This seems more like Transformers.

Except for the opening, I think the production group intentionally left out much of anything that sets the story. All we got from this teaser is some taste of Georgiou's team and personalities. Section 31 is the Federation's undercover force, not just a human org, so having a Vulcan doesn't disturb me. Vulcans can be pretty reactionary and secretive when they want to be. Weren't Frank Gorshin and the other alien the last two members of their black/white race? When Kirk's Enterprise got back to their planet it was devastated by total war and those two chased each other through the wreckage.

Honestly SNW kind of put me into a mindset of just keep an open mind, same with LowerDecks and TBH I've enjoyed both of those series with only a few episodes that fell flat with me. As far as S31 it's going to be interesting to see Yeoh take the lead, but if it's all Terran vibe badazz'in then how much can one endure of eyeball eating and raunchy villianry. EDIT: After watching the panel at CC regarding this show really saddened me as watching the history of S31 way back when Bashir was outed for being augmented and seeing the outwardness of how they are operating really shows me that the writers are missing the point of why and how S31 has developed.

I think it looks great. I've always wanted a Trek show/movie to explore different perspectives of the Trek universe like Section 31. Not every show/movie has to be set on a Starship with a Starfleet Crew exploring space and there is so much more to the Trek universe that should be explored too. I hope this TV Movie does well enough that more Trek content can take risks and do something completely different from past shows/movies. I also hope someday we will get a Trek show/movie that is entirely based on an alien species like the Klingons or even the Romulans etc or even a Trek show like the West Wing TV show would be cool. As Kirk is famous for saying 'Young minds, fresh ideas. Be tolerant!' or the more famous message of Trek 'to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.' What could be more pure to the core message of Trek than the Franchise it'self exploring new areas of its own universe. To seek out new takes/explore new ideas on it and to boldly go where the franchise hasn't been before.

Section 31 since it's introduction has been established as operating outside of the federation. We know they have technology, likely taken from other races that Starfleet does not. They work in the dark corners, outside the norms where you won't find Stafleet. One thing I loved about DS9 is they took the stolid, perfect setting of Starfleet and started exposing it's underbelly. Earth is a paradise but everywhere else isn't gong to be. I'm looking forward to this, lets see that underbelly.

That's the thing: they've a lot of groundwork to make Trek appeal to anyone that viewed nutrek as an overall failure. That would require them to see alienating the original audience and lore as a bad thing, and so far their actions have been pretty upfront that they don't see it that way. Paramount would need to put another studio in charge and clear the ranks. Seems like they don't want to do that. It's more likely that they will continue to pimp out the IP trying to gain a new audience and push agendas. It's rather foolish, seeing as Trekies have been fairly passionate throughout history and would happily keep the franchise alive if it were, ya know, still the same franchise. We will have to see, but their track record has been awful for a while now.

If the Federation has abandoned money, there is no capitalism, society does not engage in predatory consumption, does not destroy nature, and there is no hunger and poverty. It is a post-scarcity society where everyone has everything they need. There is even a book called Trekonomics: The Economics of Star Trek. So my question is why everything looks like dystopian cyberpunk. Can someone explain this to me?
@1978rharris5 ай бұрын
Since when has aesthetic been dictated by money? You’re not making any point here.
@alevyts35235 ай бұрын
@@1978rharris Aesthetics is built on scarcity. That is, someone can afford a Birkin bag for 50,000 dollars, while someone has to sell their body to feed their family. Scarcity means that there are only a limited number of artifacts in the world. For example, a limited batch of bags, cars, yachts, paintings, statues, certain clothes, food, etc. The advent of replicator technology has eliminated material shortages. Everyone can afford to dress and consume like the richest man in the galaxy, because replicators are in the public domain. Everything works on the principle of open source. That's why it's ridiculous that someone works as a security guard in a bar, sells their body in various forms, and engages in trade to survive. Everyone works in the Starfleet on a voluntary basis because it is a voluntary association of people who have gathered around the ideas of space exploration, diplomacy, defense, technical and scientific development, and work for free. The only deficit in the Federation is to have a large starship of its own and other huge artifacts. That's why people unite in open source projects to create something great for themselves together with the help of replicators and knowledge sharing.

Talk about plot armor. “She’s bad” they litterally tell us ok, but isn’t this a well known spinoff character? You’d think if they had any confidence they would have introduced us to them instead. Imagine a Picard trailer starting with “you’re such a good captain”. Thats such a lame approach that it reveals what they think is fun. Id really liek to see a SNW episode where Spock wakes up and reports he had a terrible dream where he had a sister. Kurtzman has never truly understood what makes a show "Trek." He can ape it to a certain extent: hi tech look for inside of ships, ships that have the traditional pylon and saucer look, techno babble, uniforms etc. But he has never understood that at its heart Trek is about large ideas, philosophy, ethics, science, crew relationships etc. Trek is NOT first and foremost about shooting at enemy ships. Trek is also above all hopeful not dystopian. It is an indictment of Kurtzman that the shows that resonated the most with fans: Strange New Worlds, Picard Season 3, and Prodigy are all shows in which Kurtzman has not been directly involved in the planning of the details and the day to day. Regarding the Section 31 movie--Michelle Yeoh is a fantastic actress--hopefully they have given her good material to work with in terms of a well plotted script. Since Section 31 is a "naughty" organization and works outside the system , i am prepared for the fact that the movie will be different and will show the Section 31 crew bending a few Trek rules since obviously the character that Yeoh plays is no saint!! But at its heart, something about the Section 31 movie should still resonate as Trek if the people involved with it did a good job. All we can do is hope.

I have never understood the attitude of, "I want more of what we have already done". We did it. It's over. If we don't do something new, there is no point in the art. DS9 isn't "Roddenbury's Star Trek". It is dark, has a different aesthetic and has the main character hate Picard. It flips the "Wagon Train" idea on its head and has the show be the frontier town instead of the wagon train. It completely abandons the episodic/Twilight Zone-y nature of TOS and embraces serial storytelling. And it is probably the most loved Star Trek series amongst fans. With the click-baity title of "Is this even Star Trek", you are going to attract the "NuTrek isn't Trek" crowd to your channel. Warning, they are toxic as fuck, and actual fans of the franchise will leave to go where those trolls are not welcome.

Star Trek Voyager, the feminism focused Star Trek, has more male main cast members than female ones. TOS has three male leads. I think we can afford to have more women in Star Trek.

I personally have liked the new Star Treks but this teaser doesn’t give me any incentive to be excited for S31. Come on - Beyoncé? 😫

The same criticisms can be vented at any of the JJ-Verse films and Disco too - it 'aint my Star Trek, it's a generic sci-fi romp with a Star Trek badge slapped on it

It’s Star Trek to ME if I say it is. Same goes with anyone else. But no one gets to tell me if it is or isn’t. Based on a short clip. Edit: I’d like to see what the dislikes are on THIS video. Unsubbed.

This has the stink of Picard all over it!!! Everything shown is unrecognizable from Star Trek and Star Trek Discovery. This doesn’t even look like our Phillipa! And stacking it with callbacks to Star Trek aliens doesn’t make it Star Trek.

Mirror Mirror universe is overdone. Disco was being grimdark for being grimdark's sake. Section 31 is all the idiocy of ST: Into Darkness with none of the anchoring characters. Disco was never my Star Trek, and never will be. Anything that stems from it already starts with 2 strikes, including Academy. I'm expecting a train wreck like ST:ID or worse.

Sounds like they are digging in the bottom of the barrel and riding on the name of Star Trek. No thank you!
